White and black are the best candinates.

White Vs. Black.
Good Vs. Evil.

Heaven vs. Hell (heaven --> white - hence the clouds although there is blue, the perceptions of God also dressed in white along with angels is the point - hell is seen to be represented by red but in this example I'm merely highlighting the importance of the colour white)

White is seen to be pure (like doves are) and free of impurities. Black is seen to be a dirty colour (as most forms of dirt are black) and would hence stain or turn a white piece to a black piece (eventually). But in all crap movies, good (white) overcomes evil (black) - example, Lord Of The Rings (although I'm pretty sure Frodo is evil - he's wanked all over these forums in a smilie form).

White and black are the most commonly used colour for text on the web and in GUI's. So many people also have either a white pc/apple or a black pc setup. Even Apple have turned black with their Mac OS X Panther release. Creative dish out their almighty speakers in black (and silver but that's irrelevant as it's mainly black).

Rubbish bags are (normally) black. When things burn they turn black. When CO2 is detected, lime water turns "milky white".

red, because (as it turns out) guinness, hobgoblin and port (the three greatest forms of drink in the world) are all red. Red is also the colour of bood- due to the whole red blood cell thing, therefore red > all.
