The Alamo
Is it just me, or is the Alamo monument to Texan stupidity?
1st
It didn't need to be defended and servered no stragetic value.
2nd
It was designed to keep people in, not out making it a poor choice for defense.

Re: The Alamo
What are you saying? That the people who died at the Alamo shouldn't be remembered?
I don't see why they shouldn't.

Re: The Alamo
Yes, they should be remebered. We need to learn our lesson from history not to waste human life on a wasted stragtic point.
No really, they where brave and all, but they where still morons.
Oh and let us not forget they where fighting yes for independence from those sneaky Mexicans who let them move into their terriory but the biggest reason was cause they wanted to keep their slaves (hahah civil war later on) that Mexico said no to.

Re: The Alamo
Why do you call the individual soldiers morons, when it's generally generals (hoho) and the like who make strategic decisions of this nature?

I'm pretty sure that war memorials are to the people who gave their lives, and the like.

But by the same token, it didn't need to be taken. The 100 or so defenders were no real threat. The time, men and supplies Santa Anna wasted taking the Alamo would have been better spent chasing down and defeating Sam Houston's forces. As it was, Santa Anna ended up weakening his forces considerably (and buying Houston valuable time) before losing the decisive battle at San Jacinto.

Most of the same argument can be used for the insane pointless loss of life that was World War I.

In Texas history we learned that the reason for defending the Alamo was to slow Santa Ana down so that Sam Houston would have time to finish gathering and training his Army. I think the strategy worked.
