Would you get a British passport?
This an example of a test immigrants are being asked.
Now its all good tea drinking brits wanting immigrants to become accustomed to british lifestyle before they integrate into the community, but try this example test
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3077964.stm
I managed to get 6 (one was a complete guess)
I've lived in Britain all my life. I knew only 5 answers. If i walked around i'd be classed as "british".
Does anyone see how stupid these type of tests are? If me, an average Brit can't get most of these right without struggling - why should an immigrant have to?

I didn't get the Youth Culture one right. I don't see how knowing who So Solid Crew are makes you a good citizen, if anything it should mean instant deportation.

I got 5.
Most of them were guesses and I think it's an absolute bollocks idea that your suitability to be a British citizen should be dependant upon how much you know of what some stuffy upper class twat thinks you should know about the country.

"Congratulations! You are qualified to be a U.S. citizen!"
How utterly fabulous.
Anyway, it was all about the government - hardly anything on culture and only the briefest mention of history.

'tough' questions on the us include # of reps in the house,
governor of n. carolina,
who is the chief justice of the SC,
who is the speaker of the house,
49th/50th states (easy to get switched around),
original 13 colonies,
rights in the bill of rights,

that's an easy mistake to make. i doubt 20% of americans know who our 'head of state' is, and virtually none 'know' who it is for the UK (some would probably get it right because they only know of one famous brit, but i wouldn't count those responses)

But the questions I got were too easy. The women in the office next to mine just got her US citizenship and the questions she had to answer were a lot harder.

A friend of mine just took his to get citizenship, and didn't have anything harder than the "how many representatives in the house?" one.
What 'hard' questions did she have?

Sorry, the correct answer to the question: Where does freedom of speech come from?
is: The Bill of Rights.
So the americans actually invented freedom of speech?

I was more thinking about wheter I want a British passport or not, and can herby conclude that if I would get one or not is irrelevant.

I know there is a Durham in North Carolina (it's not even the state capitol tho), and noting that there was also a question about the NCarolina governor it might be (probably is) the North Carolina-specific version of the test.
