"Welcome to the fifth annual Manhunt Tournament!"

The announcer was met with an immediate flood of applause from the masses crowded into the stands of New Island Stadium. People paid thousands of dollars for these seats, even when the event itself didn't even take place in the stadium, even when the tournament had only been running for five years. They came for the atmosphere, to be close to the raw power of the event. The anger, the fear, the violence, the death...

"This year's tournament looks to be every bit as thrilling as the last!"

Once again, rapturous applause cut the man off before he could continue. Once again, he waited for it to subside.

"For another year, we greet our audience watching via television from around the world from the fantastic monument to competitive blood sport that is New Island! We've got a real tough set of entrants here this year, folks, it's going to be one hell of a fight! Over the next four weeks you can expect non-stop excitement as the hunts go on. The entrants for our starting event are already in place, so, without further ado, we go to Island 1-C where the hunt is just getting started!"

The objective of the Manhunt Tournament is to be the first to track and then capture or kill the hunted (in this instance, Fluffie). Any means of capturing or killing Fluffie is acceptable. This means that, in order to be the first to capture the hunted, you are permitted to kill or otherwise impede your fellow hunters. Any hunters killed will be permitted to 'respawn' (in classic arena tradition), but only an hour after their death. The time limit on the game is a week total, meaning that if Fluffie is still alive after an in-game week, he wins and you all lose. An hour of in-game time will pass between each DM post (these will be fairly brief), with each of you (Fluffie included) being required to 'sleep' for eight hours per day (so between the evening DM and the morning DM eight in-game hours will pass, while between all other DMings only one hour will pass).

The hunted are always convicts (meaning you could, if you wanted, actually be innocent), taken from around the world. The contenders are simply anyone who somehow found his way into the game. Contenders come from all walks of life, but the most successful often have military background (no, I do not want eight ex-SAS characters after saying this).

There will be a map, I will require a suitable net-savvy person with webspace to display the map.

The hunt takes place on an island in the Pacific, roughly circular and roughly 24 kilometres across. There are a few villages around (the people have been temporarily re-homed) Topography details will be revealed with the map. You are allowed to use anything you come across on the island, and you are allowed to go anywhere on it. Respawned characters are dropped in by guarded military helicopter. Once you are on the island, there is no way off (boats and such have been removed).

The hunters may pick a weapon from a list which I will provide shortly. Fluffie starts (mind I said 'starts' here) with no weapons (but will, as you may have guessed, come across some pretty quickly).

You may not simply, after seeing Fluffie move near a village, have your character think of going to this village purely by luck. No no no. It's harder than that. Your character must look for clues as to where his quarry has gone. Look for footprints and, if you're in a grid square that Fluffie passed through recently, you may find some. Posts are graded on quality, technique and plausibiliy. Success depends mainly on the abstracted grade I give you.

Sign up now and I'll have the thread running by thursday at the latest, it won't take long. Characters really aren't that important but feel free to do the standard name/age/physic/background thing nonetheless. Although this is the future, projectile weapons remain the only weapons and I will not permit cyborgs or aliens or such under any circumstances; you're all straight humans.

"Cute? Not anymore."

"D*mnit Bakan, you missed a spot!"

*hoses Fluffie's face down with an AK-47, turning it into a fountain of blood and gore. When the shooting stops, all that is left is a small, bony stump that is Fluffie's spinal column.

"There, much better."

Player vs. player is actively encouraged in this thread, but it's going to be regulated. I don't want any of this 'I floor my opponent in one post and point a gun at his head and act all cocky because I want my character to be a 1337 badass' crap. This thread's RPer-vs-RPer element is going to be done properly like it was in the old days. Or my old days, anyway.
