Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

Onslaught: Identity War

There have been many different theories as to the origin of the human race. Some believe that an all-powerful being had created us. Others believe that it was random chances that lead to the evolution of certain animals into human beings. In the long run, there was one thing that we were apparently wrong about; we were not created on Earth!

We held this idea about being from Earth to the very core of what we were. Upon the beginning stages of interstellar travel, we flew out from what we considered our first home to make others. Settling on distant planets, creating new homes, we still thought of Earth as our first home. Then we made contact with what we called the Tribe.

The Tribe, generations ahead of us in terms of technology, appeared to be very human. Their technology, while more advance, followed several of the basic lines our technology did. Testing their DNA against human DNA showed remarkable similarities. It seemed that our basic assumptions about our origin were flawed in several ways.

The Tribe were more than willing to help us learn about our past after we spent much time working on translating their language. They too were not sure about their origins; however they knew that they too were created not from their planet.

Things seemed to be going almost to well. The ambassadors of the Tribe told us that we would be welcomed with open arms in an alliance with them. As our respective ambassadors worked out the alliance, a startling revelation was made, the Tribe was not the only branch of humanity they encountered.

A lone ship, badly damaged, was recovered by the Terran Defense Force. The crew of the ship, who were long dead, were revealed to be another offshoot of humanity. The technology was similar in many regards, yet more advanced in some. The computer networks took significant time to comprehend, yet finally a breakthrough was made, much to our horror. According to the records on the ship, to which the crew of it where designated “The Wanderers”, they that made contact with another branch of humanity. This branch welcomed their brethren with open arms, and an alliance was made. After the alliance, they had joined forces in defending each other’s planets from everything from natural occurrences to pirates. On the eve of the 1st anniversary of the alliance signing, the Wanderers were attacked ruthlessly by their allies, destroying their military fleets, enslaving their planets, and executing the government and religious figures. Further records indicated that the attackers converted the populations to their culture, essentially assimilating them. The shocking aspect of it was that the ships of the attackers were very similar to those used by the Tribe.

With this information, doubts were raised about the intentions of the Tribe. The Terran ambassadors confronted the Tribe ambassadors, asking about the similarities of the ships in the records. It was then that the Tribe ambassadors activated hidden explosives on their persons, taking out a large section of the base that the meeting was occurring. At the same time, nearly every Tribe spacecraft in the vicinity of a Terran ship or base opened fire. The suddenness of the attack led to the loss of many ships, with several colonies falling. Thus, within the span of a hour, we were at war.
For three long years, we fought the Tribe as they made their way steadily towards our inner core of planets. The Tribe had the advantage in nearly every category, from ships to ground forces to pure numbers. However we made them fight for every light-year they crossed.

As we fought them, we gathered more intelligence about them. Our original views about them were built on observations carefully crafted by the Tribe. We discovered they had been observing us for quite some time before we made contact, and they trained their ambassadors to be more appealing to us. They were deeply religious, fanatical in their belief that their way was the only way that should be practiced. Their religion was rigid, it supported several of what we considered horrible aspects. The conquered people of previous wars were treated little better than slaves. Their females had no rights to speak of. Their young were assigned to their careers from birth with no room for change. Yet most of them were loyal followers, ready to die for their belief in the religion was so strong. The religion was simple, in that once every human was converted to it, they would be rewarded with a permanent trip to a new realm, an eternal paradise. This religion drove them in regards to their culture and society and what they did when they encounter other races of human beings, which is simply to ally with them, learn what they can that can be useful, then wipe them out and absorb their population into their own. The Wanderers were the branch to be conquered before ours, and according to best estimates there were several generations ahead of us when it came to technology.

Now, in the year 2468, we are down to 15 colonies, out of an original 53. These colonies, located around Earth are our last lines of defense against the Tribe. Plans have been made that we will implement in order to save our race. The citizens of Earth and the colonies do not want to have their rights taken, do not want to loose their freedoms. The global democracy that had been implemented several hundred years ago was to revered for Terrans to want to loose it, thus we fought with every weapon at our disposal. We must hold them off, show them we will not go quietly into the night.

Shipbuilding

This thread is ship combat. You are the captain or pilot of a ship in the Terran Defense Force. The original 53 colonies each had their own breed of ships, which were slowly merged under the Terran Defense Pact of 2358, thus their exist several different types of ships. When building your ships, the following rules apply.

Size: The largest ship can be 1 Kilometer (1000 Meters) long from bow to stern, 500 Meters wide from port to starboard, and 500 meters high.

Engines: Ion-based propulsion is the main type of sub-light engine technology used. The larger the ship, the more engines are need to make it move faster. Faster-Than-Light travel is done through the slipstream drive. This drive can only be installed on ships 200 meters long or larger due to the power drain. Also any ship can use a slipstream gate, which will propel a ship through slipstream towards a receiving gate.

Weapons: The Terran Defense Forces used several different types of weapons.
  • Kinetic – Ranging from chain guns to MAC’s (Magnetic Assault Cannons), these weapons all share the property that they fire solid projectiles at ships. Certain types of these can be used as defensive weapons as well.
  • Missiles – Either single tube to a entire turret, missiles are guided projectiles that have been the mainstay of Terran ships. Certain types of missiles can be used as defensive weapons as well.
  • Plasma – Practically new, these weapons are typical massive able to deliver a massive punch, but are very inaccurate and massive
  • Laser – Development of a practical laser weapon has been in progress for a long time, since the 20th centaury. However, a practical laser weapon has not been invented until after contact with the Tribe. Analysis of Tribe debris has given Terran new information in how to make a practical laser weapon, and thus newer ships can be equipped with them. Lasers are typically small, yet draw a lot of power. However they are VERY accurate and have moderate punch to them.
  • Flak Cannons – These cannons are deployed over the ship, and fire reflective shards out in a wide blast. These shards are able to reflect away laser and plasma weapons, and alter courses of projectile weapons. However they are not 100% effective.

Defenses: Terran Ships are protected by the following means.
  • Hull Armor – Pretty simple, it stops enemy fire from getting into the core of the ship, yet is eroded with each hit.

In short, you are allowed to create your own weapons from these basic rules. The rule of thumb is think primitive, no fancy Star Trek like technology, but more rather primitive such as in Battlestar Galatica and Babylon 5 (humans in the case for Babylon 5). Be creative in your ships, yet also be reasonable. Additional items will be need to be approved by me. Finally, there are also fighters and ground troops to consider.

If you wish to command a smaller ship, you can create fighters. Be creative, yet reasonable with the fighters.

If I think your ship is overpowered, I will give you the chance to change it, or I will nerf it myself.

Signups begin now. I will start DM’ing in about 7 hours from the time of this post. My goal is frequent updates per day until January 2nd, after which we shall see what happens when I go back to classes.

The last major part to his phsyce came six months ago when a refugee convoy was attacked on it was his family, his wife, mother, sixteen year old son, and 14 year old daughter. After this he became heartless, he would open fire on crippeled ships as the fled from ambushes. He would have been replaced if the number of experienced commanders was so small.

He stands 5' 11" with a wirey frame. His hair is black with a matching goatee, only small amounts of gray are visable in it though, giving him a distinguished look.

Volfield: The RUHM Rail-gun is the first in what we hope to be a new wave of anti-capital weapon designs. The Relativistic Ultra High Mass Rail-gun system uses an extremely high-power electromagnetic, linear acceleration system to accelerate a small quantity of Particle 010 to 0.85c. Particle 010, the largest atomic particle ever synthesized naturally decays in a little under 0.92nanoseconds. Under the relativistic effects of travelling at 0.85c this decay is "slowed" to 0.5milliseconds. When the particle decays it releases an exceptionally high-intensity burst of broad-spectrum electromagnetic radiation. If the deceleration is sudden, then the relativistic mass-increase results in an even higher-yield, capable of vaporising starship-hull plating. The largest drawback to the RUHM system is the size of the launcher, accelerating even a single atom of particle 010 to 0.85c requires an enormous amount of energy, the smallest linear accelerator capable of producing the required velocity is approximately 256m, and the energy required to synthesise the particle and launch it is enormous. It is for these reasons that the Swordbreaker prototype was commissioned, designed around the accelerator, it is outfitted with some of the most powerful generators we can produce, nonetheless the ship experiences numerous brown-outs when the weapon is fired. The other drawback of the RUHM system is that it is virtually useless in areas of high-debris, and completely useless inside nebulae and atmosphere where deceleration occurs upon collision with another atom. Accuracy: Medium (Depends on maneuverability of the ship) Maximum Range: 152 Kilometers Power: Assault-class yield Size: Massive (requires ship designed around it) Limitations: Non-functional in high-density environments. * * * HCG Plasma Cannon Technical Summary By Dr Paradox Metford: Using electromagnetic fields to contain and shape energised plasma is not a new concept, neither is applying spin to a projectile to increase accuracy. Unfortunately few ships are equipped with the quantity of electromagnetic generators required to successfully spin a sizeable quantity of plasma to the necessary degree to improve weapon performance. Using the electromagnetic field generators, already present within the Swordbreaker's RUHM system, we have succeeded in creating spun-plasma, which is more coherant and easier to control. Accuracy: Good Maximum Range: 22 kilometers Power: Heavy-Class Size: Large * * * Mist-Class Flak Rocket System Technical Summary By Dr Edward Kolchek The Mist-class Flak Rocket is a simple unguided rocket, whose low-yield warhead serves merely to scatter the reflective fragments of the rocket across a wide-area. It is designed purely as a longer ranged alternative to standard flak-cannon technology and is ideal for faster ships who can move away from the defence allowed by conventional flak-screens more rapidly than they can be raised.. * * * Summary Complete * * * > Wanderer class fighter Summary. Wanderer Class Multi-role Fighter-Interceptor. Dimensions
  • Length: 10m
  • Width: 4m
  • Height: 1.9m
The Wanderer is designed primarily for speed and maneuverability. It's primary armament are twin Kirin-class chainguns, with HE shells being standard. It's secondary armament consists of the Wanderer Modular Missile System, this system allows the entire missile bay and launch system to be easily removed and replaced with alternative modules prior to launch. A variety of role-specific loadouts are available, ranging from dumb-fire chemical rockets, to micro-nuclear smart-bombs. * * * Summary Complete * * * > End Session * * * Session Ended * * *

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

Technical details of the warfrigate "Phoenix", basic mission configuration: Short range anti-capital strikes

length: 200 meters
width: 70 meters
height: 20 meters

arnaments:
1x Plasma streamer cannon
2x quad laser turret (left and right arc)
1x double laser turret (aft arc)

armor: double layered titanium inner armor (using the same structure as current day spacevehicles use, with 1 layer, then a space in between (and fortifications for the outerlayer) followed by the second layer)
single layer ceramic ablative armor (breaks off and vaporises to dissipate weapon energy)

crew: 45
engines:
3x mk4 Ion primary Thrusters
1x prototype plasma drive
1x high-output reaction thruster array (maneuvering)
2x high-energy fusion reactor
1x slipstream drive

system details:

'Breaker' plasma streamer cannon: A prototype plasma weapon with a extremely high output for its size, as a result the weapon is only useable on short range, but it is quite powerfull, the inaccurate stream of plasma rapidly loses coherency and its damage potential therefore drops dramatically at range

Prototype plasma drive: The plasma drive draws its plasma directly from the twin fusion reactors aboard the phoenix, which means the drive can only be used in short bursts and can never be used simultaneously with the 'breaker' plasma streamer cannon. Its thrust output is extremely high and can be directed across the maneuvering systems as well. Care must be taken when redirecting plasma directly into the maneuvering system, because the resulting thrust can easily damage both the ship's structural integrity as well as the maneuvering thrusters.

High-output Fusion reactor: Originally the phoenix was to be outfitted with a single conventional fusion reactor, however when the plasma drive was added this reactor became completely incapable of supplying sufficient plasma, thus the lay-out of the ship was altered, entirely removing the planned hydrogen cell back-up power system as well as removing 1 of the 4 ion drives that where planned originally

ooc/ This ship was designed to spurt forward and engage an enemy ship at extremely close range, using its plasma drive to quickly get across the distance between itself and the target, as well as allowing it a very powerfull escape mechanisme. Once at short range it will fire the streamer for several seconds before moving back out of range, the streamer will have to cool down for a significant amount of time (several minutes) before being capable of firing again /ooc

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

hmm i gonna pull some tech and fighters out here because i'm bored

Command Data Link: A system that functions between groups of ships equiped with them, allows the ship to use the sensor of all connected ships to aide in targeting. In other words make any ship in the data linked group more accurate.

Manticore Supremacy Fighter:
Length: 12 meters
Width: 5 meters
Heigth: 2 meters
Armerment: One Chain-Cannon
4 short range fussion bombs

if both approved i got a data link hook up and three Manticores also

Cloacking Device: not of device persay but uses a scanner absorbing hull and systems that dampen the heat signature from the engines. Good at a distcane but less effective ths closer you get.

Neodimium Laser Cannon: This is a laser cannon.(duh) Instead of the usual power sorce though it uses the radioactive element Neodimium. This not only allows for the traditional light photons, but gamma rays. This addes more of a punch to the laser. It also has the disticntion of being able to iradiate a ship.

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

/ooc And here is further proof that it isn't the size of your e-penis that counts, it's how you use it. :-p ooc/

Ship Name: Athena
Ship Class: Valkyrie-class Assault Fighter
Pilot: Alfred McKinley

Statistics

Length: 5m
Width: 2m
Height: 3m
Crew Size: 1 Pilot

Armaments:

2 x Point-Defense Class Laser Turrets (Top & Bottom Mounted)
4 x .30-caliber High-Velocity Particle Cannons
12 Missile Hardpoints:
(Typical Loadout)
- 2 Anti-Fighter Scatterpack missiles
- 2 Fire-and-Forget ID Tracker missiles
- 8 Hardened Warhead Torpedoes

Armour:

Reflective Armor Coating (for lasers and stuff)
Ablative Armor Overplating (for projectiles)
Angled Armor Underplating (for anything that manages to penetrate the first two layers)

Engines:

4 Standard Ion Engines (Fighter-class)
Omni-directional Thruster system

Special Equipment:

Prototype Direct Interface & Control System

Tech Descriptions:

.30-caliber High Velocity Particle Cannons - Essentially the machine gun's sucessor, the particle cannon utilizes magnetic acceleration instead of combustion to drive its projectile. The High-Velocity part stems from the slight lengthing of the magnetic rails, giving a slight increase in acceleration time to each projectile.

Scatterpack Missiles - An anti-fighter warhead, designed to detonate once it gets within 30m of its target. Filled with razor-sharp shrapnel and with a warhead that was designed to fragment, the Scatterpack essentially creates a cloud of small, high-velocity debris that tears enemy figthers apart. Especially devestating when used against fighter formations, as the cloud from one missile often effects more than one target.

Fire-and-Forget ID Tracker missiles - Once fired, the missiles on-board computer pings the transponder for all nearby ships. If the transponder comes back as neutral or friendly, the missile ignores the ship, otherwise the missile heads for the nearest signature marked as "enemy". Not to be used near damaged ships that don't have a working transponder, obviously.

Hardened Warhead Torpedoes - A simple heavy anti-capital ship bomber torpedo, only somewhat cut down so that it can be mounted on a fighter frame without compromising maneuverability. To make up for this, the tip of the warhead is made out of hardened battle-steel, allowing it to penetrate further into an enemy capital ship's hull before detonation.

Omni-Direction Thruster system - Using a series of high-powered thrusters mounted along the dorsal and lateral sections of the fighter, this system gives unparelleled manueverability to the fighter, in exchange for a greater degree of stress on the pilot and the fighter. Near-instanteous shifts in direction were proven possible during tests, although bulit-in safety protocols generally prevent this so that human pilots don't knock themselves out from the inertial forces invovled in such a sudden change in direction.

Direct Interface & Control System - A highly experimental system, designed with the purpose of seemlessly linking machine and mankind. Neural feeds are attacted to the pilot's brain, allowing for incoming data to be instantly broadcast into a pilot's brain, and allowing them to react and input new commands at almost light-speed. Test subjects report being able to "see" their surroundings through the sensor feeds that they were connecting into, expanding their senses and their reaction times tenfold. Unfortunately, the system still has numerous drawbacks, and as such, there is currently only one remainning test subject (Alfred McKinley).

/ooc Mothership for the fighter forthcoming. ooc/

40 Seeker mines, basically combat drones with a large explosive payload.

History:

Firestorm was first created by an enterprising captain known as 'Farle Shadow', the vessel was the flagship of the fifty second colony right up to the day the tribes vapourised the place. The firestorm was believed lost along with all hands.

What actually happened was thus:

The firestorm, realising the battle was lost and that it could be used elsewhere, activated her slipstream drive and attempted to flee the scene. Unfortuntally this was noticed by just about every tribe ship in the vinicity, they immediatly turned their firepower on the ship, a lucky shot managed to damage the drive, sending the vessel hurtling offcourse into outerspace.

Farle Shadow, captain of the 'Firestorm' awoke three days later, the 300 crew was dead, the ships systems heavily damaged and the A.I...well...it was singing Elvis. He spent two days hacking passed the wreckage to reach the computer core, shut down the speech subroutines and then set about repairing the core (While trying to think of something other than Elvis songs).

However, after two weeks of trying to restore the core systems, he had little luck, he'd managed to get his personal computing terminal operational and got that running the oxygen recycler and backup fusion reactor. But the core was fried, irrepairable, without it he wouldn't be able to crunch the numbers for the slipstream drive and doing them manually would take several hundred years. Eventually, searching a disused research quarter, he found a sematic for a rather nasty looking neurological link, with it, he figured, he could mentally run the ship, however the link was nowhere near complete and would take, he figured, atleast three weeks of construction.

(Nearly) Three years later...

The neural link was finally completed, Farle smiled under his three year beard, he'd done it, he'd learned neurological sciences, advanced microscopic engineering and fine tuned his inventing capabilities. He placed the unit along his spinal cord, up and over his recently shaven head and activate the unit.

Nothing happened.

"Oh, wait a second...."

(Nearly) Three years later.....and 5 minutes

Having plugged in the power cord, he finally threw the unit online.
The microscopic needles wormed their way painfully into his neural tissue, he let out a painful cry to an empty ship, his mind twisting and twirling with new thoughts, new information. He collapsed.

When he awoke three days later, he felt strange, he could feel his body from the inside....but also sense it from the outside. He could feel the ships armour, could feel the ion drives, could feel every faculty of the ships being, it was a strange sensation to be able to sense all and know all.

He left his workshop in the research section, he walked passed the wreakage and made his way toward the bridge. He stopped in the doorway, having not entered since he left, three long years ago, he stepped out and looked around.

The bridge was still a mess, not that he had expected it otherwise, the skeletons of his long-dead-crew still layed about, he felt bad about them, but they were gone. He dusted off the captains chair, sat down and thought for a moment.

The ship's screen hummed into life, showing the Slipstream drive display, Farle ran the numbers. The drive started to activate. His mind burned at a rate far faster than it had ever had, the numbers needed quicker and quicker, the drive lit up, brighter and brighter, faster and faster, brighter and brighter.....there was a flash of light and then.

Terra

He was home.

It didn't take long for the Terran shipyards to put the Firestorm back together. Farle never left the ship while the mechanics worked, moving around to get away from the noise, he saw the space burial of his crewmates from the bridge. He saluted his fine officers and welcomed more into his fold, his link now so tightly welded into his cranial tissue that no surgeon dare touch it, he never turned it off and never will.

He still commands the Firestorm and will never rest until the tribes are defeated.

For those that use direct neural interfaces, the problem is that if the ship suddenly takes significant damage in short period of time (say, nuke goes off onboard), your "mind" will be hurt as well. This is espicially true in Shadowhawks case.

Yup. Your cloaking tech though, with every hit you take becomes less and less effective.

I would recommend someone make a nice little repair ship

can I be nice and get a secondary ship? An engineering/repair ship, which will obviously be HUGE (and totally underarmed, with some defensive laser and flak cannons as its only weapons)

What do I need a data link for? I'm either going to be at "No way you can miss" range, or running like nuts

I'll make sure to get up a computer link to the rest of you guys, so you'll hit them and not me

it helps the rest of us target. It works by taking all the sensor data from ships equiped with one. With the data a ship's computer is able to get a better lock. the only way to find the epicenter of an earthquake is to use multipule siesmograph at difrent locations. The command link is just the same idea in space

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

you do realise that I'd be going in practically blind, with just a good idea of where my enemy is as I move in, my ship doesn't have top of the line scanners and targetting computers, simply because it doesn't need such gismos. Its primary weapon is in a fixed forward mounting, so all of the targetting comes directly from the pilot

Beam : 188.1m
Height : 230.4m

Power Plants:
1 Matter/Antimatter Reactor
2 Tokamak 2000 Fusion Reactors
4 Tokamak 650 Fusion Reactors
Capacitor Array

Sublight Drives:
3 Titan Z-105 Ion Drives

FTL Drives:
Tachyon Slipstream Drive

Armour:
Quad-layer Adaptive Armour

Weapons:
18 Laser Pulse Cannon
4 Torpedo Launchers
2 Matter Acceleration Cannon

Computer Systems:
3 Interlinked Computer Cores
AI Driven Vocal Interface
BCP - Damage Monitoring System

Command Crew:
Commanding Officer - Captain Richard Draçir
Executive Officer - Commander Rachel Draçir
Helmsman - Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Hayden
Tactical - Lieutenant Commander Karen Marco
Science Officer – Lieutenant James Connor
Chief Engineer – Commander Marcus Kelven

Background:
As you might expect from a TXS prefix, the Agamemnon was originally an experimental test platform. In her lifetime she has been stripped down and rebuilt so many times the name is all that remains of the original frigate. Due to the loss of so many ships during the current war research vessels have been getting rarer, as one by one they are pulled from the test program and reassigned to active duty. As such more technology is being tested on each platform than would otherwise happen, and the Agamemnon is no exception.

Matter/Antimatter Reactor: One of the standard parts of TXS designs, primarily due to the high power requirements of many prototypes in comparison to their final production models

Quad-layer Adaptive Armour: Outer layer is an ablative composite, second layer is a superconducting polymer to distribute energy impacts across a larger section of the hull, tertiary layer is a semi-crystalline gel substrate which flows around according to polarisations induced in the inner hull by computer controlled electromagnetic fields. The final layer is a metallo-ceramic compound designed to withstand high-level kinetic impacts.

Laser Pulse Cannon: Distributed as 9 pairs in dual mounted turrets. After several colony defences collapsed upon expending all available ammunition, the Agamemnon and her remaining sister ship Menelaus were outfitted with primarily energy weapon systems as trials of whether such a system could be adopted in normal operations. The plasma based Menelaus almost tore herself apart when the overlapping plasma containment fields began to interact destructively; the Agamemnon proved a partial success. While the battery of laser turrets proved itself well in exercises, the twin pair of laser cannon mounted along her axis simply did not have the power necessary to fulfil their anti-capital role and were stripped out and replaced prior to entering active service.

Heiro is on a distinguished road
Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

Captain Name: Trader Ro.
Captain Age: unknown. Probably late 60’s
Captains Nationality: Napan, from the Napail Colony system. [lost]

*

Ship Name: The Renegade Wanderer
Ship Dimensions:
L: 147m
W: 18m
D: 18m
Crew Capacity: 95
Current Crew: 51

Description:
The Renegade Wanderer is an old trading vessel built from the original terra shipyards over 40 years ago. The outer hull is makeshift in its construction, ranging from bolt on repairs from the Napail Shipyards and Martian colonist repair yards and full on refits, again from the terran shipyards, it epitomizes the idea of a Patchwork Quilt. The insides, however roughly held together, are all high end specification equipment. The bridge itself contains only 5 seats, only three of which are currently occupied. The whole thing seems covered with a layer of character building rust…

Armaments:
In the last few years, The RW has been retrofitted with several weapons arrays, listed from smallest to largest:
6 batteries of point defense flak and chain guns, 25 guns per battery.
A port battery of plasma ‘rifles’, 3 weapons total, each powered by a separate Hydro-fusion reactor. Capable of blowing focused holes in capitol hulls.
A starboard battery of close range, ship to ship missiles, modeled on piratical cannons. Designed for small fighters in barrage or breaching the hull of a larger ship with intent to ram.
A pinnacle mounted ‘One shot wonder’ plasma cannon, Liable to render sections of the ship useless along with all the non-engine reactors.
A handful of fighters, for large scale fights.

A Note on the weapon mount design:
The weapon mounts, Port and Starboard, rotate. The centre section of the ship rotates on the ships central axis, allowing for a 360 arch of fire for the port and starboard weapons. However this takes time, but would be quite fun if somewhat unrealistic.

[Not too much, I’d assume]

Equipment
The Pandora AI, from the original build. AI MkI, with extra hardware, RAM and neural, as yet unused, interface.
The Ark AI, added later. A tactical AI MkIII, built and added with the specific idea of mounting weapons on Older ships.

More to come.

[ooc] All ships approved as of this point [/ooc]

Location: 7th Swing Fleet Repair Gallon Cradle

*Looking over the latest intelligence report, Admiral Incom Morgan sighed. The losses of the outer colonies were being felt, for they all had contributed to various resources and technology, resources that were now slowly dwindling away, technology that was become more and more rare. And now, if the latest report was true, another colony world would be falling all too soon.*

*Standing up from his desk, Incom looks out the portal. The Cradle was a Repair Gallon, one of 6 in the entire Terran fleet. Over 2.5 square kilometers, she could handle the largest ships and repair them from the point of destruction to as if they were fresh from the shipyards within the span of days. Yet for her impressive size, the Tribe ships would be able to carve her up if she were to enter combat. Looking at the rag-tag fleet that was current being repaired, with several other ships flying by either escorting her or waiting to complete repairs of their own., Incom wondered if they even had a snowball’s chance in hell of victory.*

*Turning back towards his status reports, the lights suddenly went red, and alarms started blaring.*

“Attention all hands, attention! Long-range probe has detect Tribe ship 5.8 light years from our location.”

*Swearing, Incom stood up and sprinted towards the bridge.*

Mission

*As soon as the alarm on the Cradle goes off, your ships all go to action stations. Suddenly from the Cradle Admiral Incom Morgan hails your ships.*

“Attention. We have a confirmed Tribe recon fleet located nearby. We can not let them find us here. All ships that are in a state to initiate combat are to jump to the following coordinates. We do not have accurate intelligence as to the Tribe ships, however there are no more then 12 capital ships. Good luck.”

Mission Orders
-Jump to Tribe location
-Destroy all Tribe ship
-Do not let any Tribe ships escape

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

The Apollo sat docked to the Cradle, as the last of the upgrades and repairs were made to the ship. The cruiser had managed to survive yet another battle against the Tribe, and yet again needed to be almost rebuilt. But this time, instead of being rebuilt with the standard armaments of a Terran Cruiser, the Apollo had been outfitted with a new generation of anti-ship Magnetic Acceleration Cannons. Classed the Avenger MAC, a pair had been fitted onto the Apollo. A devestating long range cannon, the Avenger MACs took up nearly half of the cruiser. They were also able to fling a a MAC round, 50m in diameter to speeds where it didn't matter where it hit.

Crazy smiled as he looked at the specs of his new toys. They would be fun next time he came across a Tribe battleship. This time he had a nice surprise for them. This time it would be the battleship trying to run away and not him. He also took a moment to glance over the shorter ranged weaponry that were the twin Heavy Particle/Laser cannons. They'd be useful if the enemy got too close for the MACs. Crazy's smile was suddenly wiped off his face, as alarms blared out.

"Contact! Tribe recon fleet, 5.8 lightyears away. Orders from Admiral Bakan to engage, and destroy all Tribe vessels. None are to escape."

"Well, you heard the Admiral. What are you waiting for! Disengage us from the Cradle. We're fit for combat. Sound general quarters. Warm up the fusion drives. Get our MACs online"

A series of 'ayes' followed Crazy's orders. The bridge suddenly became very busy as men and women hurried to their posts. The Apollo slowly disengaged from the docks of the Cradle, its ion engines flaring as it became free. It headed to join up with the other ships that were preparing to head out and engage the Tribe. As soon as its slipstream drive was fully charged, the Apollo slipped into slipspace, along with the other ships and headed towards the Tribe fleet.

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

*Flapjack onto the bridge from his small ready room when the alarms started blaring all of the sudden, as he sat down in his chair he saw the small fleet coming into position to jump, they where way behind on the rest for they where still docked*

Flapjack: "Now what's happening, what are those ships doing there?"

No1: "All able ships have been ordered to intercept a Tribe recon fleet, some 5.8 lightyears from our position. When the order came our reactors where offline so I took the liberty of ordering them back online, all crew are in position and we're just iniating undocking procedures. If all goes according to plan, we'll be at the enemy fleet pretty much simultaneously with the rest."

Flapjack: "Good, continue as planned and remember to get us as close as possible to those Tribe ships before dropping out of slipstream, with a bit of luck we'll catch them by surprise."

*The Phoenix at that point undocked from the Cradle, a sudder went through the ship and almost immediatly the blue lights indicating the plasma drive was about to come online flashed, immediatly everyone checked their straps and those not currently seated got into a safe position, the Phoenix's inertial dampeners were never able to handle the strain when the plasma drives kicked in and several green crewmembers had been injured before, luckily the current crew of the Phoenix had all experienced its acceleration before*

*As the Phoenix cleared the Cradle on its ion drives, the bright red flare of the plasma drives came on. Almost immediatly the warfrigate jerked forward, the g-force meters reaching up to the very end of the scale as the ship made a leap in speed that would make the average fighter pilot jealous*

*Only seconds later they had caught up to the rest of the fleet and a few moments later the Phoenix activated its slipstream drive, mere milliseconds ahead of the rest*

Flapjack: "Perfect, at least we know for sure the plasma drive still works."

Alexander was in his ready room. He was lost in thought like so many times in the last six months. He was an amutare historian, so today he was wondering about what circumstacnes would let such a unforgiving goverment form. On Earth whenever a goverment formed that was too oppresive it was just overthrown, leaving a black spot on history. Yet here was a goverment that had broken that rule and seized all but 15 systems in the known universe. A Xenophobic order that had destroyed his family, his family on a refugee convoy. The convoy like all refugee convoy constanty broadcasted a transponder that let any ship in the area know they were carrying refugees.

In the middle of this musing the intercomm crackeled as the First officer made a report, "Sir, Admiral Morgan has has ordered us to intercep a Tribe fleet 5.8 light years out."

"I'll be there asap, have the engines ready to go. Hatch out." He responded as he got up and left his ready room to go the brige. It was short walk through the Phantom Class Destroyer named Ebony Flame.

The Phantom Class Destroyer was concived as a ship that ambush enemy fleets as they moved into the outer parts of a solar system, were there were plenty of places to hide. The Ship was ussually equiped with a single MAC, and a sizeable anit-fighter defence. However after six of the eight prototypes were destroyed in there first combat trial, the reaming two of which the Ebony Flame was one, were equiped with a Neodimium Laser Cannon at the expense of there Flak cannons. This was allright in Alexander's book, the Flak cannons were terribly inacurate anyway. To bolster the now weaend fighter defenence a flight of Manticore's was added. Before the modified Phantom Destroyer could be put into mass production the shipyard resposible for the develpoment was overun. The program was scrapped.

Alexander walked onto the darkend brige. His first officer had predicted what he would like. Alexander found himself far more demading of his crew since his family was killed. He liked his ship runned his way, from lighting to well how his ship was run. His crew had been peeved at first, but after suffering a disproportionably small amount of casualties for ships destroyed.

" Allright lets go kick some Tribe arse," Alexnader adressed the brige crew as moved toward his seat in the middle of the brige, " You have been a tough as nails crew so far, You are the best crew i have had under my control. Now you need to humor me one more time. Helm move us into formation with the rest of the battle group."

In space the battle group formed up, and then entered slipspace. They were on there way to interdept the Tribe.

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

The Agamemnon glides effortlessly alongside the ragtag flotilla and galleon repair yard that have become her home port; the vessel’s ion exhausts smoulder with a deep blue light, trailing a rapidly fading stream of polarised particles in her wake. Inside the majority of the ship is powered down, her fusions reactors simmering at close to minimum power.

On the bridge gamma shift is spending most of their time looking over the other ships in the fleet; long gone are the days when the vessels in your squadron were virtually clones of your own. Beta shift are sleeping in their quarters before coming on duty again in six hours time. Alpha shift are, well, just about everywhere.

“Computer,” Richard says to the empty room, “locate commander Draçir.”

“Commander Draçir is in the forward observation lounge.”

Richard nods to himself and steps backwards out through the open doorway, then stands there for a few moments getting his bearings before turning left and making off down the corridor. This ship is still new to him, his last having been decommissioned shortly after her most recent encounter. ‘Decommissioned’; utterly destroyed would be more like it, there wasn’t enough of the Pegasus left to make a working shuttle once the Tribe were through with her.

His brief reverie carries him through the tangle of passages and to the doors of the observation lounge. As the doors swish softly open he walks through and glances around the large open triangle of windows, lending the people in here a sweeping view of the stars in front of them. A strange idea for a warship to his mind, all this space given over to what amounts to a medium sized park-come-restaurant; but then this was never designed to be a real warship, and this room was probably intended to serve dignitaries and assorted admirals wishing to observe the latest weapon tests. As he looks around at the trees growing near the side walls he wanders across the floor, arriving soon at the front of the ship.

“Quite a view isn’t it?” comes a familiar voice from over his shoulder.

“How long have you been here?”

“Ever since I got off duty.” She smiles. “Watching the stars, you can almost forget.”

He looks out across the vista for several silent seconds. “Almost. Ever wonder…”

Whatever he was about to ask gets cut off mid sentence as both of their faces frown slightly.

“Did you feel that?” he asks.

“Feels like gravity is back to normal now though.” She replies, answering the question in a slightly abstract way, talking almost to herself. “But what…”

“They just brought reactor containment online.” Richard answers before she can finish the question; but obviously the answer was in her head, even if not on the tip of her tongue, as almost simultaneously they start walking towards the door.

By the time they reach the doorway the gravity fields in the central reactor are synchronised and the first molecules of reactant are being passed along the constricting pipelines into the heart of the chamber. Atoms mingle with their antimatter counterparts in minute quantities, yet even this produces significant amounts of hard radiation: power that has to be absorbed. The tight grasp of the containment fields draws the erratic output off and into an internal network of plasma relays. This energy flows out through the immense bulk of the capacitor array, calming the wild fluctuations before they can wreak havoc in the rest of the ship.

They turn off of the corridor into a lift several metres away from the lounge; with one hand resting on the waist-height panel near the door, Rachel says “Bridge.” For a fraction of a second the lift waits to see if the other occupant wishes to go somewhere different, but then they flit off along the axial shaft, accelerating backward along the ship.

The reactant injectors are up to operating levels and the output steadies out into a constant flow of power; the capacitors, no long required to smooth out the vagrancies in the power flow settle down and steadily draw off the majority of the excess flowing into the power grid. The rest they feed across into the ship’s six fusion reactors, heating the plasma directly, allowing the fuel flow to be increased faster than otherwise. Before long they are at full power.

The lift takes a radical turn upwards and flies up into the vessel’s thick dorsal superstructure. At this point the captain’s wrist communicator buzzes; Richard can’t help but smile at the somewhat belated intrusion.

At the rear of the ship the ion drives go from a dull smouldering glow to boiling in a few seconds as the accelerators come online as spin the ion stream up to a good ninety seven percent of light-speed. Along the length of the magnetic acceleration cannon, dedicated grids of capacitors begin to fill with power. The locking mechanisms on the ship’s turrets disengage and they track outward, searching around for targets that as yet are not there.

The lift arrives and the doors open with a softly muffled swish of hydraulics. The two officers step out onto the bridge and Richard announces their presence.

“You called?”

The lieutenant commander running the gamma shift bridge crew looks a little shocked at the response to his hail being in person; for about half a second.

“All power systems operating at full capacity sir; engines online, turrets online; torpedo tubes loaded, two fusion warheads, two submunition deployment systems; Macs are charging and should be up in… just under four minutes. We are ready sir.”

“Good job Commander. The question now of course is; ready for what?”

“We don’t know yet, we just got an alarm signal from the Cradle ordering action stations, no communication since.”

“Correction to that.” Cuts in the communications officer from the back wall. “Incoming transmission from Admiral Morgan. – Detecting tribe forces five point eight light years out, numbers suggest one dozen capital ships or fewer, probable reconnaissance division, engage and destroy. – Co-ordinates follow sir.”

“Okay then.” Richard says as he makes his way round to his chair. “Helm, ahead one third and match bearings with those co-ordinates; Science, begin jump calculations and feed them over to helm while we’re moving.”

The Agamemnon shifts slightly on her axis, glowing spots flickering along her hull as the manoeuvring engines swing her around. The trio of ion engines bloom into an iridescence bright enough to make the average star look like a glow-worm with a flat battery as they reach out and push the giant vessel off along her new course. Before long she is heading directly along the calculated bearing.

“Alignment complete sir, bearings and speed matched, drive ready.”

“Make revolutions for flank. All stations, prepare for transition. Engage slipstream drive on my mark.”

At the rear of the ship the outer glow of each engine brightens as the accelerators spin their particles up to a higher energy level, while the inner emitters maintain the previous acceleration by releasing fewer ions.

“We all ready?” Richard asks as the last member of alpha shift takes over on the tertiary science station.

“All systems are stable, green lights across the board.” Confirms tactical.

“Then let us play. Helm; mark.”

Okay

It is now 11:33PM. I'm getting up at 6AM to drive to my parents for the day with the girlfriend. We are then driving back. It's a 3 hours ride at least each way. DM'ing tommarrow may not occur due to all the traveling, however the 26th will see the return of DM's.

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

[ooc] Apologies for the lateness- i got Morrowind for xmas and have been closeted in Tamriel for the past few days[/ooc]
The piercing wail of boarding sirens drowned out the shouts and grunts of the sprinting repair crews as they rushed on to the ship and from the loading bay to their details.
Only two thirds of the requested supplies had been loaded, but there was no way Admiral Morgan could let this fleet go without a repair ship; the tension in the air was immense, and not just because they so close to the heavy Ion thrusters as they fired up, one by one, each pushing the straining ship harder against the power of the tugs used to hold her back. This old colony ship was not meant to stop once it had started, but now its target was mankind's destruction, not its hope.
On the bridge, frantic navigators tried to calculate angles for the directional thrusters as the tugs let go, one by one, the old beast rocketing out in the wake of the other ships and trying to keep a central position.

27th - Replaced muffler and left front tire and wheel (5 hours in auto shop) & drove GF home (120 mile round trip).
29th - Drove to parents once again (driving to parents is a 440 mile round trip).
31st - 1st - New Years mini-party.
2nd - Schoolwork and World of Warcraft addiction.

3rd - DM'ing after 6PM EST (when I get out of class).

Also - I STRONGLY advise people to get away from Cradle

Re: Bakan's X-mas Surprise #1

With a sudden lurch the docking clamps securing the Swordbreaker in place disengage. Compressed gas maneuvering thrusters fired, moving the ship slowly away from the cradle. Within moments the ship was sufficiently clear of the cradle to switch to primary thrusters. Raw incandescent energy flared within the engine housings, and the ship was off, cruising at somewhere near half it's maximum rated speed.

"Ok ensign. Bring us about and prepare for slipstream jump." John Demasus said calmly. He watched the viewscreen as his ship reversed direction, bringing the looming immensity of the Cradle into view.

"Slipstream drive charged, Captain." said a voice from the bridge behind him.

"Ok. can expect to meet with resistance as soon as we emerge from slipstream. So all hands to battlestations, and Red Alert." John didn't show any of the apprehension he felt about taking an untested prototype vessel into combat.

He looked around at the bridge crew, he didn't know any of them, beyond what was in their files and they all looked nervous. He'd been assigned to the Swordbreaker less than 72 hours ago, his previous ship The Walker had been a 40 year old corvette, small and lightly armed. Sitting in the command chair of a brand new, next-generation battlecruiser, he wasn't exactly comfortable. The chair's surface had been artificially molded to his shape, but the quasi-leather was still hard and rigid. No, not comfortable at all.

He grinned for a moment, then pressed the ship-wide comms button.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We will soon be entering slipstream, so please fasten your seatbelts and make sure all trays are in the upright and locked positions. Thankyou."

He toggled the switch and looked around at the bridge-crew, who were at the very least slightly more relaxed, a few were even smiling.

"Ok ensign," he said authoritatively, the smiles vanished but the tension did not return. "enter Slipstream on my mark......
Three...
