Age of Pirates Interest Thread
I'm looking into starting a pirate RP. I would like to gauge interest and get some opinions on how you all would like it run.
First: How much DMing would you like. (I'd rather not have no DMing) There will be no stats. I hate stats.
Second: type of pirates:
1. buccanners: the traditional pirate. basically you against the Spanish.
~With this would you rather all be pirates on one or more ships or would people be willing to be the Spanish with merchants, galleons, and navy.
2. corsairs: muslim pirates in the Mediterranean attacking christian vessels
~RPers on both sides.
3. privateer: pirates operating on permission from their respective countries. Most likely English vs Spanish.
If you are interested, please list your choices in order of preferance and chose which side you'd like to be on. 1. spanish or pirates. 2. muslim pirate or christian merchants 3 english or spanish (or suggest another nationality but must have historical background)

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
In order of preference:
3. English, naturally. I will plunder many a fat Spanish merchantman with the letter of marque in my holding.
2. Christian.
1. Pirate
--
For (3) you could also have Dutch vs. Spanish or Dutch and English vs. Spanish or Dutch and English vs. Spanish and Portugese, going on the same period.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me!

Unless of course, a main spanish "villian" would be needed, someone could play a powerful spanish naval officer who could coincidently also be attacking other countries fleets searching for the renegade pirates.....or something.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
hmm, well, actions of yourself only mostly, tough if there is a non-pvp battle, you could let the player have limited free-play, which means no dming if the player keeps everything within reason, the DM would decide on rewards, enemy forces, etc.
as for the type, in order of preference:
1. Pirate, what else?
3. Dutch, just as a matter of reference, the Dutch and the English have had several large arguements, there haven't been any major, long during, wars, however the Spanish, the Dutch and the Spanish have had a long naval war.
2. either side, no preference so i'll be on the side with less RPers

Anglo-Dutch-Spanish relations would depend entirely on the year in which this thread is set, FJ...

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
ND, i was talking about in total, over the entire time those nations have been sailing around and trading spices, i know that those relations varied over the years but it's just that the chance of the spanish and the Dutch cooperating is a lot smaller then the English and the Dutch

Who said anything about the Spanish and the Dutch co-operating? That would just be completely absurd...

Something interesting to learn about, something vaguely historical, something completely random to fit pirate slag into.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
1. I'll play a Spanish pirate hunter \o/
3. See 1
2. Hmm....go england \o/
Why not have 1 and 3 together? Privateers vs spain, and pirates vs everyone?
Dming is good, lots of dming is better
And you need stats, otherwise my mighty rowing boat with 300 cannons will sink everyone elses war galleons!
Or something.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
Well i might do a mix of some sort, but i like things with historical context and those are the 3 versions of pirates (not counting ones in asia or vikings). And i'll have a guideline of ships, but i want to see what the interest is first. I don't want intense stats.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
Okay, the count thus far, and based on the results I'm grouping first and second choice:
option #1: 5 votes (although 4 ppl chose this as #1, 3 choice it as #3)
option #2: 3 votes (not super popular, got 5 votes as choice #2)
option #3 8 votes (got 3 votes for #1, 5 for #2 and none for #3 so really is the more popular choice)
Unless someone wants to change a vote or fill in one *coughHeirocough*
~choice three would be 4 english and a dutch against lantadors evil twin or 3/1 against 2 (depending on whether zorro would take spanish)
Whether this choice is done depends on lantadors evil twin and Zorro.
~choice one is 4/5 pirates vs 2/3 Spanish
~choice two (if i translated the choices correctly) would be 3 muslim pirates vs 4 christian merchants/navy.
So we have a pretty good division atm
THIS IS NOT THE FINAL COUNT SO ANYONE STILL INTERESTED PLZ POST.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
I had a thought, don't know if it would require too much work or not though. If there are enough people on each side to make sides, for example pirates and pirate hunters, will you be able to just go and attack one? Perhaps a bit of secret DMing would be in order. Keep someones actual location a secret in the thread, but they could still be hunted by the other team, and thus gain an element of surprise. After all, if I'm leaving Spain, I'm not going to know that so and so is attacking a spanish fleet off the coast of Cuba. So you could either just say "you dont know that, you cant do it" or throw in the surprise element in some way.

Zorro: That's a little too complicated and besides that's choice #1, not #3 which is the top choice for that one. (btw, PM with ideas from now on so you don't give away plot ideas)
EVERYONE ELSE: Okay, the choice is #3. English vs. Spanish (with fj the Dutchie being a..extra but yes you can do it.). For you English, you need to make a choice. Do you all want to be on one ship together or would you like to pair up and be captain and first mates/ other of your chosing?

Pairing up sounds interesting although going at it individually would mean if one peep decides to bugger off he/she won't drag another RP'er down with them...
Er bugger it. I'm for pairing up.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
If your partner disappears, just go on by yourself. The point of the partnering is I don't want to have 6 or more RPer ships to worry about on one side. (I can only come up with so many ideas ) Also, it will give you a little more interactive RPing than you and your NPCs.
Flapjack: don't get ahead of yourself. How do you even know i'm letting you design your own ship.
Fluffie: We can always use another Spanish.
Heiro: I'll cough at you all I want but sorry for singling you out
*coughBakancough* I need your choice too: English, Spanish, or Dutch. Choose or be left behind during pairing.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
I'll be English, naturally. I'd definitely rather not be in an RPers-all-on-the-same-ship situation.
If we're pairing up, I pick Fluffie (assuming he isn't Spanish), since he's the , very much like myself.

Re: Age of Pirates Interest Thread
Let's not worry about pairing up until i say to. and ND, Fluffie said he'd be Spanish.
