The FREE round 9.5 will open its signups on Tuesday 27th of May (this coming tuesday) at 16:00 GMT.

Existing played accounts do not need to sign up again. Anyone who has igned up, but not activated their account in round 9, must sign up again, AFTER Tuesday 16:00 GMT.

The ticker i set to start the following Monday at 16:00 GMT.

More info as things draw near.

a) improvements to the portal that are coming soon should make it easier to spot new news items.
b) Login is on the portal, thus u should see news items there anyway.
c) it was to keep everything in the same place, some announcements were on the portal, some on teh forums and some on both. Bearing in mind www.planetarion.com IS the portal, it seems more sensible to put the announcements ont eh main game page, than the forum (a sub part that n00bs don't necessarily know about and golooking at)

I login through http://jpaweb01.planetarion.com/login.fcg (on my extremely slow modem it loads instantly as the page never changes, whilst I have to wait for an age for the portal to load).

Your argument is only valid if you can only have one place where announcements are made.

Would it not be possible to make the portal "rip" the news from the forums? Or alternatively have some sort of indicator on the forums showing a new announcement? (like a "last announcement posted at..." type thing)

I agree it's messy, but picking the portal as the only place for announcememnts just because it's what www.planetarion.com points at isn't the best idea.

1. The question isn't just where people start out, it's about where they go from there, and where they go from the portal is straight into the game to check for incomings, send def or start a research.
Once all the hectic items on the agenda are accounted for one might settle down for a chat on irc or for some reading. And while the portal does offer some reading, there's no place like the forums for spending the 59min between ticks engrossed in reading.

2. The Forums are easier to read than the portal. While the forums allow users to change styles to allow them to read a page they're comfortable with the portal is really hard to read, and no matter how you design it it will be unrestive to the eyes of many.

3. When www.planetarion.com is down the portal is a useless place for announcements. the forums however would be the place to go to look for info.

That's why the forums are the best place for announcements.

another thing, http://planetarion.com & www.planetarion.com dont point to the same page .. im pretty sure u could make the forums rip portal announcements & vice versea, it hardly takes a coding genious.
