Smartphones
My brother is giving me one of these
And it can do such nice things as this
Sadly it does not have a camera, and im told the battery does not last very long but oh well. It can do loads of fancy stuff and i plan to get a gameboy/gamboy colour emulator for it as you can get them for smart phones and flash cards can slot into the side of it so I could take several hundred megs of Roms to Aussie with me to keep me occupied until I get a pc up and running, question is what other stuff could I put on it that would be useful, so far I have come up with Roms and porn (oh no my geek is showing!) Maybe theres a irc client out there for smartphones or some kind of proga……..ok now im shocking myself how sad that is.
Anyone else here own/owned a smartphone?
Windows on a mobile phone…..this should be fun

Re: Smartphones
i have that exact same phone.
there sbeen irc clients for ages.
get a bigger sd card so you can play movies and music on it. a 512 should do.
those screenshots look shit, because its using the default scheme.
get a skinned front end for it instead, it looks much better.
I have tetris, pacman, space invaders, nethack on for games, and not much else cos i can't be bothered.
yes the battery life is shit, but you can charge it via usb , so
bear in mind it hasnt got that much processing power (233mhz chip) so emulators may not run very well at all.
You can get snes emulators too.
All of the functionality is killed by the battery life to be honest, since you can't play tetris for 3hrs straight on a train without it dying.

Re: Smartphones
Like this one.
It'd be done over GPRS though so it could get expensive as GPRS tends to be billed by the KB at extortionate rates.

thats for smarphone 2003, the mxp200 is smartphone 2002.
no GPRS i've ever seen is charged by the KB
orange is a quid a mb, however with images turned off, thats not a big problem, plus i get 5mb a month free, and i rarely go over that.

Ahh brillant thanks, well a gameboy emulator should not take to much power, i will proboly be playing it most of the time with it plugged into the wall anyway in my room, it will BE my entertainment untill me and my other half get our own place and i can set up the pc.
Wow 233Mhz, faster than some of my older PCs i used to have
Whats the music quality like? standard mobile phone tinny speaker?

I have no idea what the hell that is, nor why you felt the need to bump a two week old thread.
So yes, to answer your question, probably.

Re: Smartphones
Well i was trawling through to see if there was anything interesting to reply to, I in an office, restoring a computer's HDD which takes several hours! As such- I was bored...
And Don't we all do things we regret when bored? Symbian Series 60 is a platform for smartphones and Linux is an aleternative Operating Sysytem to Windows- so both are alternatives to Windows on your smartphone/computer.
