Re: Modern Life ~ Modern Addictions
It's just where you put the emphasis on the word, it's barely distinguishable when you actually say it. I used to say it PA but type it PT. This isn't all that important.

Maybe I misunderstand you.
But you don't really pronounce it Plane-Tarion, do you?
And no, it's not important. I'm just curious.

PT = Planetarion Tick.
She's calling us all ticks, which is probably better than what people call each other on here generally

That would actually be the more correct and logical way to pronounce it, considering the word is broken down into syllables as follows: Pla-ne-ta-ri-on. As you can see, pronouncing the word as Planet-arion would actually break up the middle syllable.
So if you were to enter a glottal stop anywhere in the pronounciation, the logical place would be between -ne- and -ta-, making the pronounciation Plane-tarion the more correct one. Obviously the word should still be starting with the pronounciation of the word "planet", not of the word "plain".

I always pronounce my 't''s very clearly, so I say a firm Planet-arion. Pla-net-ari-on. It's debatable what is "more" correct.
But the point isn't really the pronounciation, it's how you would design the abbreviation. The logical thing to do would be to take the first letter of the root word - Planet -, and then add the first letter of the suffix - arion -, making it PA.
To come up with PT, you have to break up the root word, and that simply makes no sense.

She seems to have the same amount?
tbh she'll probably be outranking most of us soon. "most blobbed 2 post person", etc.
I think it's just purely curiosity value

Re: Modern Life ~ Modern Addictions
Oh dear. Has anyone considered that she might have just started this thread in the hope to get a number of replies on this forum [the media of choice for GD, ofc] and then analyse the replies??
I mean, GD has hardly donned its suit, brushed its teeth and gelled its hair now has it?
Instead its rolling on the floor in its underwear, encrusted with blood and poo [we know which GD members are responsible...] while paradoxically discussing the finer points of pronounciation with itself-
A paradox native to GD,
...while JJ stares on, casually trying to break the ice with Sarah....

gooey?
the only reason i didnt close thread ban user was because it was 'new' and not the 'usual old crap'
her being female (which is probably a marketing ploy in itself, lol 43 yr old balding sweaty researcher man etc) had nothing to do with leaving it open. Ive only posted twice anyway and one was about how i dont care much for 'free speech'
surely if i wanted to impress i would have said 'I SHALL PROTECT YOUR FREESPEECH RIGHTS MISS RESEARCHER. FOR AM I A VALIENT WHITE NIGHT ON THE EVIL INTERNET OF HORROR'

Re: Modern Life ~ Modern Addictions
which addictions are considered "usual" and which are considered "unusual" these days? I always forget, although i doubt i qualify
oh woe, i shall have to wait for the wondrous day when i can walk in the sun with the gems of channel 4's reality television department. If it could be that i might one day brush against Davina McCall's post childbirth arse in a corridor, i would consider my life all but complete; the only missing part being to disembowel myself in her office while pleasuring myself with a pencil sharpener.
alas, tis not to be.

drugs, sex, alcohol, caffeine, etc. internet addictions are not socially acceptable/ or usual, which is why we all gather here and exchange jokes that no one else likes or gets

can i just say that this would have been a lot more believable if you had had a link to some sort of e mail address at channel 4 where people could have contacted you, rather than just spamming forums? as it makes you look ****ing inept at the moment

Hi Roadrunner, Channel 4 doesn't technically make any programmesl. They commission strands, series, the news, even the idents ... from a range of over 600 production companies - so why would I have an e-mail address with Channel 4?
