The Web brings people together because no matter what kind of a twisted sexual mutant you happen to be, you've got millions of pals out there. Type in "Find people that have sex with goats that are on fire" and the computer will ask, "Specify type of goat."

Some firewalls do not allow the irc.cgi stream through (like the one i'm behind). So if the above irc.cgi links do not work and you have an always on connection at home I have a last resort option of a webclient script on your own mirc running at home. It is fairly useless for continuous irc preseance but it is handy enough for emergency communication with your gal/alliance.

The simplest thing u can try is this:
/server trustnet.de.eu.netgamers.org:80
This will surpass the easy firewalls, so might just work .

sure you can go around any restriction, but if a company really doesnt want you to use irc at work and you circumvent it, you DO put your internet access or even job at risk. Better think well about it first - admin's sometimes look at random URL's to see whats happening - or they note your access during searching or fixing some other problem ...

You do not have to ban IRC. My company does not ban IRC at all but they just installed a firewall that does not allow for streaming connections and both IRC as well as the IRC.CGI alternative use streams to keep connected.
I have an alternative mirc script that acts as a webserver running in your home mirc session and creates sort of static html pages on request but that is very awkward to use and lacks a lot of basic irc features. Not helped by my total lack of scripting knowledge.
