I am an internationalist.
On Christmas day it became obvious to me that culture (in the form of international trade) is global in nature.
I was preparing a toddy for the wife who is recovering from a bit of a cold and so as not to have her drinking alone decided to have a bit of something to keep her company (it was, after all, the companionable thing to do).
As I mixed her Frech brandy with some Austrian honey and added vitamin C (in the form of Sicilian lemon juice) while waiting for my coffee (a blend of Hawaiian, Indonesian and African coffees) to finish dripping so I could add my Bailey's to it, it suddenly dawned on me that my life would not be the same should the world outside of the United States cease to exist.
This was an unusually mature thing for an American of my age to realize. However, I can't figure out whether it makes me a better or worse Republican. Am I to be blessed or must I repent for my sins?

Ours was Raynal and said that it was authorized by Napoleon himself. I guess they didn't get the news about his passing.

Hit the nail on the head.
dda, I don't think it makes you a better or worse Republican. Having that "ephiphany", perhaps makes you a better American though.
God knows we're an ignorant nation

Re: I am an internationalist.
I dislike 'Americans are stupid' comments because it implies everyone else in the world are not equally as ignorant.

Re: I am an internationalist.
I can only speak of my experience as an American, that we are indeed particularily ignorant...though I'm sure there's plenty of stupid people worldwide :P

Ah, but there you are wrong.
Apparently in Austria there are groves of acacia trees from which the bees gather the raw stuff for the making of honey. In America the varieties of honey tend to be mostly orange blossom, sage and wild. Each has a distinctive flavor as does the acacia variety. Of the four the Austrian acacia honey has the mellowest taste of all. Now that I have had it, it will be difficult to go back to other types of honey.

Re: I am an internationalist.
But I doubt Austrian honey tastes as good as Austrian honey from an American company amirite?

Re: I am an internationalist.
I hadn't thought of that but it only makes sense. Austrian honey bees harnessed to work for American capitalists. This would be sweet indeed. I shall drop George a line while there is still time.
