12,169 planets
To be honest i thought it would have been a lot higher. Most people who are playing are ppl who have played before but didn't want to fork up some cash when p2p was introduced. Heh i could be wrong here but from my gal and from what i have heard this is the case.
So effectively pa has gained very little new customers that it can hope to retain with p2p. Maybe this free round should have been marketed more aggressively (was it even marketed?). Whats your opinion on this?

Well, I don't see how they possibily could have marketed it--given that they kind of stumbled into the whole 9.5 thing backwards (first saying they were going to have a free 2-week miniround for R10 (which may still happen--I dunno), then announcing they they might do a reset of R9, then running a poll, then announcing they weren't going to do a reset, then reversing themselves and doing a reset after all and opening it up as a free round). You can't really have a marketing plan when the whole product roadmap changes every other week.
Were I in charge of PA's marketing, I'd probably have put a bullet into someone's brain[*] by now. :/
[*]Not necessarily excluding my own brain.

I seem to remember some legal thing where SimTech arent allowered to use the user-info (emails, etc) gathered by FS, due to not asking the customers if that data could be given/sold to another company.

They only bought the game, not the playerbase details.

well i have just come back for this free round and i only found out about it by chance i just happened to log onto irc just b4 the ticker started so thats why im in this game but as far as the p2p thing has gone its really killed of the game cos most of the time only the hardcore players will carry on paying to play the game as the ones whom arnt as good will eventually get boured of not being in the top players and will leave and thats what has been happening
people just dont want to pay for a game in which they are very likly not to win yet i cant fully see why they dont try and banner round again go back to basics see how the word spreads maybe after 2 rounds the player numbers will start to rise maybe get to 50000 if the word spreads quickly and the reason the banner idea didnt work was cos people didnt open them but i feel that now people have seen what will happen to this game because of p2p they might be more willing to click on the banners i know i would then we would have morew players and it would be a lot more fun but hey thats just what i think from my point of view as one of the people who will play the game if its free but wont pay for a game where i stand no chance of winning cos you only play games mainly for the posibility of winning dont you? especially when you have to pay

Sorry to burst your bubble...
Making BIG profits out of internet banners is almost 90's...
Since the crash of all i-not company's, advertisement doesn't pay as much as it used to be...
What means.. Spinner should have 100 banners.. Which isn't something i would do..
An option is... that you "can" pay to remove banners.. But since transferring money below 5 euro isn't really worth the trouble this is seems doomed to fail...
imho...
Pay for private rounds(luck get less influence)
Every end of the round.. Free random round(like this) where you need more luck.. But HE it's free!!

Two rounds with only one round payed would reduce Jolt's income.
How about a round where you let in free accounts after a week or so. With every way they can aid the big planets disabled:
- scan planets should be solved in the R10 coding;
- no covert operations against bigger planets, that are not attacking them;
- no defending of and attacking with larger planets (unless there is another way to solve the escort planet problem);
- there's probably more ways to cheat I forgot to solve (but I'm not to know much about cheating).

What about R10 starting free for the first 2 weeks for everyone. After that either you pay and continue or if you don't pay your access is suspended but your planet remains and can be targeted and roided

I know of other games which make people pay for extra features. The way it could be done in PA is to have people pay if they want a private galaxy, or advanced stuff like battleships and military scans.
People have been suggesting this since round 3. Back then it might have worked too. Now though I doubt whether it would attract enough people back to make it worthwhile.

and then give it 2 weeks tops and u are left with half a universe left with 3 roids.
i do like the idea though stated above that p2p peeps start a week or a couple of days earlier than free to play people as they are paying for the advantage,only down come ofc though it would make the rich richer and the poor poorer i suppose but hey they paid so
