Re: [Football]Champions League Final
The desicion to send of Lehman was correct, no doubt about it. But the referee could have let it go, barca would have gotten a goal and lehman would have stayed on with a yellow. Seeing as it was 70minutes left, Im not sure Arsenal would have gotten worse off in the end. Playing with 10 for that long against such a good team as barca isnt really a good situation to be in.
If Henry could have scored on atleast one of the times he was 1 on 1 with the barca goalie, we could have brought it home.
Barca's first was offside and they should have had 2 more yellow cards.
All in all, barca was a bit sharper up front than Arsenal, so

oh come on. What exactly did he do so wrong? Sending Lehmann off were correct. He could have let him stay on the field, but it was his decision and either would be correct. Not seeing the acting pre-goal was wrong, but what can I say, he didn't see he was acting. So in reality, the only ones who earned on ref-mistakes were Arsenal.

I could always make the same statements as Jose Mourinho.
Quote:
It is bad enough to play with 10 men against 11 when it happens against a small side and there are not many minutes left, but against a team like Barcelona and for almost an hour it is asking too much.

Quote:
We have not seen two games where we had 11 players versus 11, so we have not seen Barcelona win against 11 - that's all I can say," said Mourinho.

Same ref. Pretty poor.

Re: [Football]Champions League Final
Err restorting to chopping down a man when he is clean through on goal indicates you can't handle a team 11 on 11.

Regardless the point remains that at that time barca would have been 1-0 up. Arsenal would then have been forced to come out and attack and barcelona are the best counter-attacking side in the world.

Re: [Football]Champions League Final
I'm getting a bit fed up with all the Arsenal fans and the papers crying about the referee.
I took that loss hard, it still hurts, but I dont make excuses, why cant people and the english media just deal with it and move on.

Actually, according to the FIFA guidelines to the LOAF, you should caution and give the goal or send off and not give the goal.

"Chopping down" is a bit of a laffo misrepresentation. Lehmann went for the ball, Eto'o took it past him and tripped over Lehmann's hand which was reaching for the ball. It's not like Tony Adams came up and gave him two boots in the back of the thighs.

err, you misunderstood me? That's what I said
Also remember how fast things happened in that incident. The ref couldn't wait and see if he missed on the goal and then blow the whistle. That's quoted from a UEFA guy who backed him up.

indeed. i think barca would also prefer a 1-0 lead and continue with 11 vs 11 where arsenal has to attack, instead of a 0-0 and having to play the rest of the match against a wall.
oh and arsenal's goal was scored out a free kick, that was given for a 'schwalbe'.

I can't believe Blatter has now come out and criticised the ref as well.
It's certainly not helpful.

"Schwalbe" (dive) or "Schwalbenkoenig" (king of the divers) are unflattering terms for players who trip over thin air inside the area in the hope of getting a penalty. "Schwalbe" is the German name of a bird, the swallow, that glides to the ground.

So in fact you could have used the word "diver", but just wanted to make yourself look dutch.

It all depends on against what team and how long its left.
With 70minutes to go, I would say its just about the same.

Anyone who thought that was a bad refereeing performance really needs to go to Italy and play against Juventus.

Re: [Football]Champions League Final
Juventus might get stripped of their last two titles and be demoted to Serie B.
Then half of their squad will leave. Buffon for Arsenal!

Is that seriously a realistic option?
And surely theres's other players we'd rather have?

Re: [Football]Champions League Final
If i was a Juve fan, id be more worried about the clubs star players all being investigated, the club losing 40% of its value on the stockmarket, and former players all being investigated in a betting ring which could see previous titles taken away from them.
