Travllers Checks
I'm going on holiday on Thursday.
Money-wise, I think Travellers Chques are the best. Are they? If not, what is? If so, where's the best place to get them?
I've made a list of things I need, but I'm probably forgetting something?
Any general advice would be appreciated. But the Travellers Cheques is the most important thing.

Re: Travllers Checks
I always found it easier to just use my debit/credit card. HSBC and Nationwide have never charged me for it, saves me the hassle of carrying all that money around with me, and the exchange rate they use wasn't particularly bad either.

Re: Travllers Checks
How long are you going for?
I was in Barcelona in February and I just brought my money over in Euros. There are plenty of cashpoints for you to take money out, should you need to in an emergency.

Re: Travllers Checks
Heh, I don't have that problem with money exchange.
But Tomkat is right. For the first few days or week: take cash. So how long are you staying?
And other advice: buy a small/cheap travellers guide English-Spanish. You learn something and it can be handy

It can be but most of the signs are in Catalonian. Spanish isn't the first language of most people living in Barcleona (although they understand it if you use it).
You're right, I just wanted to be difficult and confuse ASG a little bit.

Re: Travllers Checks
Just take your debit card, there'll be plenty of cash machines / chip and pin and if they do charge you (which they often don't depending on your bank), it'll only be like £1 per withdrawal. Even in Eastern Europe you'd be hard pressed to find many places in a big city that wouldn't take your debit card.

My housemate pays £5 with Lloyds so depending on your bank it can be quite expensive.

Re: Travllers Checks
Nationwide let you use your debit card for free abroad, though I don't know how they work exchange rates (they might give you a less favourable rate and cover their costs by skimming the difference I guess) but if I were going back to Europe any time soon I'd rake £50 or so in Euros and just use my card the rest of the time, especially somewhere like Barcelona. The only time I used cash there was to tip.
