I know theob or whatever his nick is pnapped both ct and urwins last round. champ is pnapped to a couple this round i think, can't remember who off the top of my head. budious/grog seem to get hilarious amounts of def whenever they get incs (really that whole DLR thing) although budious is closed now so I doubt he'll be getting that much def lol etc. I dunno, I'm sure if someone wants to look into it they'll be able to find out a lot more.

I dunno if lower quality is the right word. They certinally value value less than say, an Urwin player would. Maybe its cause they truly understand how effective XP is whereas we didn't (though now we realise).
I don't know whether it was a deliberate strategy or just a result of them falling behind in the roid/value race but once the war broke out both CT and ND were racking up huge xp totals and thus score due to being lower value.

Re: 11.7
Short rounds suck because xp plays a much larger part in them than in longer rounds. Short rounds also suck for a bunch of other reasons. Xp also sucks in general these days because of the way multi-targetting works meaning that genuine clean battles for defenders are next to impossible. "Oh look someone with a fleet of just one ship can suicide into me, lose 1 mil of his own value, kill 600k of mine and gain 1 mil score in xp. How interesting and genuinely reflective of the essence of a war game."

Re: 11.7
Well i'm not a big fan of XP either, I do agree it makes defence even more difficult in a game skewed towards attacking as it is. Further I feel in penalises a player who is doing well.
But that aside its a mechanic thats been in for a long time now, so making the most of it in terms of strategy is certinally valid I suppose.

Re: 11.7
I was a fan of xp circa r19 or r23. I'm cool with it being used as a leveller between big and small players. However now the leveller already exists in part really with the addition of multi-targetting to the game. As a slight aside one of the reasons I feel defence is so hard now is that when people get incs it's not like you only get them in one/two classes. Now you get hit by anything and everything which makes people unwilling to offer def when they have incs as a lot of the time they'll need huge chunks of their fleet to cover themselves. Also people are less willing to get up to send def at certain times. It's actually become pretty funny how terrible day raids are as all alliances/gals have def fleets available then due to the fact nobody is awake to send def at the times when it's actually mostly needed.

Re: 11.7
Well i came back last round having last played in round 10, and the whole concept of XP I personally find quite ridiculous, but you work with what the game offers I suppose. Having only played when theres been multi-targetting I can't fathom what it would be like without it.
As for defence, you're entirely correct. I think Urwins was one of the better defending alliances this round, especially considering the sheer amount of incomings we had at times, and we relied on waking people up via sms and phone calls. I don't want to know how much this round has cost me in buying Skype credit for urwins HC to wake people up.

What gets me is that the PA team seem to think that constantly tinkering with everything is the best way to attract new people. I don't see their approach to this as doing the game any good. But the game is dying and I assume the last minute cramps makes it look like that.

then again, with gals so insanly big, and such a smal universe with rather big alliances, you end up with gals who "fence" their way to the top.

For those who know more than me.
How many of the big gals have gone and got NAPs?
If they've just been avoided because they got lucky with the number of allies in there, then they can hardly be blamed... and the term 'fence sitter' has such negative connotations.

idd. But then again, u may place people in diff. alliances to prevent incs. Atleast early gal raids...
6:3 ( #2 fence gal!? ) got no gal naps as such, and we have recieved incs from ( more or less ) all alliances. But we got a nice spread of members, or atleast we had before people left / got kicked

Re: 11.7
I have a slight feeling 3:5 is the least "fenced"(intentionally or unintentionally) gal in the top10 atm. Like half of Ascendancy in our gal ffs
Also JBG, who'd of thought that roiding some of ND's biggest defwhores would not result in them offering us a NAP? Seriously, I thought that was how it was done Oh well, laND salvagedonating us to 2nd place!

Sorry Achilles, not sure where you get your intel from but we only have 8 different alliances, and 0 pnaps. Which is no more alliances than most gals have, and definately less pnaps.

Man, that post amused me quite a bit - the last paragraph mostly. Finally an admission of sorts that asc is shit (assuming ND are going to win the round by a 'landslide').

You oubviously read something different from that post than everyone else(or so it would seem). Im fairly sure asc have the highest avg score among our active planets(if you take away covoppers, scanners and such).

Any alliance could say that :| Clearest indication will be which alliance has most planets in the top100 for that? (could be asc for all I know, but if not then you'll just go "erm no, other alliances have def whores / 60 active defending members to help put a lot into the top100, comparing us to them is unfair. plus they play hardcore, we play for fun and nothing else, etc).
Point there is that you can't compare asc to any alliance. You can have a laugh though when some asc elitists brag about something and... well, the results are amusing.
Also, its mostly asc people that go round going "LOL ND ARE NOOBS LOL OMG LOL" on repeat, and yet they're seemingly going to win 2 rounds in a row... this one comfortably... *sigh* But then ND play properly and asc don't , etc. *sigh* again.

Think that'd be delving into IRC logs which are sacred So in your opinion the average Ascendancy member thinks highly of ND then? If you can put your hand on your heart and say that you do, then my apologies for grouping all of ascendancy into that... accusation.

I don't think anyone thinks highly of any alliance in PA these days. I'm just wondering why ascendancy was singled out!

Well, if I'd singled out some other alliance we wouldn't have had this conversation about it No fun there.
I hope smasher dedicates 11:7's victory to excessum r24 for training his skills up to the required level. Bet he won't though, we just don't get the credit we deserve

Yeah, I guess I underestimated how shit everyone else was :/ Also, I was under the(apparently false) impression that only the score accumulated by a planet while in a tag counted towards that tag, which it seemingly didn't, allowing ND to cherrypick the best of their out of taggers and boost their score quite a bit late in the round.
However, I still chalk this up to a round that the other alliances lost more so than one that ND won. Even with the out of tag score I'm baffled at the level on incompetency required for both Urwins and xVx to squander the leads they held earlier in the round. Quite simply at a loss for words.

So despite having a 21m lead ND didn't really win it, others just threw it away? Right. Makes sense.

It makes no sense at all really. As my favourite football pundit says, "You can only beat what's in front of you." ND have done that 2 rounds in a row now and they deserve full credit.

Absolutely agree, I'm one of them - I've been absolutely terrible this round, partly due to things that are my fault, partly due to things I can't help.
Why have ND won? It's partly my fault. Same goes for the other people who were as lazy as I've been. Not just in Ascendancy, everywhere.
ND have always been competently run; their members don't seem to be letting their HC team down as much as they used to, given they have taken to winning rather than losing. I think even the most senior ND would admit that associating them with fleetcrashing is a pretty fair and mildly amusing point to make.

IMO:
xVx managed to get a lead because ND, CT and Urwins were busy having a 3 way. They made a mistake in hitting ROCK, who's heroic efforts stonewalled them until a single night of part-targetting by ND/CT ended their round. They've done brilliantly to build themselves up over the rounds, but they were never taken too seriously as contenders.
Urwins' DCs did a fantastic job, their members were more active and they proved excellent at roid racing. However, ND/CT did what was required and repeatedly ptargetted them (11 nights in 13 iirc). They had solid defence, but their attacks were formulaic so they didn't punish our mistakes in the same way eXi or 1up would have done. From my biased standpoint, it was ND and CT taking the war to Urwins that has probably stopped them winning.
Well played Urwins, you worked hard & without politics this would/should have been your round. But ND did roughly the right thing at roughly the right time; you can't ask much more than that.

Re: 11.7
I think turtle or someone referenced it before but why the hell did CT help ND for the entire round? I mean since I clarified ND's co-ords at the start of the month I don't think they've ever been behind.

Guarding against making mistakes yourself and exploiting your enemys failures has always been the recipe for victory. I guess I might have to concede that you exploited your enemys mistakes better than Urwins or xVx did, although each of you made plenty of mistakes on your own. A smarter opponent would have exploited those, and as Urwins and xVx failed to, this is why I say they "lost" the round.
I've said the same about rounds that Dragons have won(this is not simply ND "hatered"). Infact, whenever someone wins against all odds...you can be sure the otherside are more than half to blame.

I'd guess they believed they could remove urwins with us then bash their way past us in the last week. After all, urwins' roid/scoregain when they didn't get incs was larger than ND or CT could manage so they had to be removed as a threat first.
The big splat at Smasher's is where I'd put their turning point this round.
And my opinion isn't representative of ND or anything. I started off as an inactive peasant, but when I did get a bit involved a few times when I thought ND were making mistake and that I could help out. If we win, it's thanks to Grog, damo8, BA and the members.

Yeah that was funny, christ knows I wouldn't have been up for landing it if even a couple of more ascendancy fleets were involved

Therefore 1up's R12 win and eXi's R19 win are more just losses of everyone else?
Also you could group R13 in this too since eXi were new and not so publicised, and them winning was, therefore, unexpected pre-round.

Top on 15 and joint top with ND for t200 planets on 23 (although I might have a couple of co-ords wrong in there).
Edit: Sorry we're actually 1 behind xvx for t100 planets, my bad. Although 2 of them are 98th and 99th so I'm claiming a moral victory!
