Seems there are some preliminary stats up at the beta server, so I guess it is time to start discussing!

My first comment, what the **** is up with zik, is there a typo or what?

Competent or not, volunteering has proven to have little to no effect.

Mjeh, volunteering to do something you're not qualified for isn't really worth much, and there's very few of us qualified for this crap.

FR steal ship targeting BS would be win for ETD, their BS fleet is pretty much useless for solo attacking at current stats

Please explain why it is useless solo attacking with Etd Bs, without using an argument that can be used for every other fleet. (bar Cath Fi/Co )

hmm just let people know when stats are final.. aka no more tweaking.. the current ones look pretty.. oh well let's say I'd prefer a max tag limit alliance over anything small.. but then again single targetting round.. that's what you get, numbers definately over quality in that short round.

if there's some decent compo there might be playing next round, but we'll see when stats are final.

I agree on that, but don't you think ETD would be more fun to play with another steal ship, preferably one that can help you make a better roiding fleet?

yeah. Investor, as it is, could well be a BS stealer, since it fires after the wyvern (although before the mantis, but why does cath need mantis for attack...)
So, why not make it a BS stealer? that would help Etd BS roid fleet.

I'm sure Cathaar would be more fun to play with a Co stealer, that alone doesn't mean they should get it. I'll admit, the Investor seems a bit useless to me, but changing it to Steal does more harm than it fixes in my opinion.

Appoco said he'd have a basic set ready for friday so I guess it looks something like that. I'll hold off commenting until he actually says it's a proper beta version though!

My thoughts were, why would he open Beta (regardless of how pointless some of you might find it) if the stats weren't 'ready'?

The beta was open while last round's stats were still in use. Presumably for testing changes to the game code.

I suppose. But even if they weren't beta-ready, I'd still find it an interesting and entertaining pastime. Doesn't mean you (in general) have to declare me an idiot for it. My time is, after all, mine to waste.

You are free to do as you like, the only reason anyone would call someone an idiot, was if they make assumptions based on that about the nature of something else down the line, without knowing the amount of permutations it will go through or the variance between permutations before the final product. And even if you knew those things, the subset of possible conclusions makes it rather obvious that the whole pursuit is, at this point, nearly useless for predicting anything.

I find it good practice for when the actual set is presented. Analyzing a set basically comes down to algorithms, going through fleets one by one, can X attack Y, Z, etc. (of course it goes deeper when accounting for efficiencies)

And I'm sure that the current set won't be dramatically changed, so there most likely will be a fair few similarities.

Well, if you need the practice, then go ahead I suppose.

And I don't know what you're basing that second assumption on, because there's nothing that would indicate that, in fact quite the opposite, I'd say all indicators imply that volatility is still high.

Isn't beta.planetarion.com server always online anyway? I mean, even if they turn off the signups, doesn't mean they'd take down the manual or the stats. As no official beta has been announced that I know of, he's essentially not opened the stats for beta testing, so the point is mute, unless someone would want to suggest the beta server should be taken down between rounds?

Yeah it's always on. The beta is open though, someone mentioned it to me a while ago and bread joined #beta this evening and it was up and running.

looking at the stats, I wonder why T2 and T3 are missing. All ships are with T1 only.

I think those are some valid points. I also think 'same-init combat' is a bit shit as it limits the number of targets for both races.
