[Football] A good day to bury bad news?
Terry named England Captain
Personally I wanted Gary Neville as he for me is everything an england captain should be. Gerrard I wouldn't of minded. Likewise with Terry, but a sligh coincedence they have told it today perhaps?

No, we've known for a while it was going to be announced today, with the press conference tomorrow.
Gary Neville is too old for the job.

I'd have gone with Gerrard. But Terry would have been my second choice.

After Istanbul, its actually incredible that anyone other than Stevie Gerrard got it.
Not just as a Scot, but as Liverpool fan, i'm glad. The media spotlight could have seriously affected the way he plays for Liverpool, for whom he is captain already and maybe england as well would have been too much responsibility and work for him, even though hes a hero.
Also when liverpool are playing shit he already has to carry 10 players on his back - he didnt need to double that to 20.

For a player not at Arsenal, I practically love the guy. If someone told me that Gerrard would go to Arsenal in return for one of my kidneys, I'd be on the operating table in half a second flat.
He should be England captain.

Gerrard is much more the focus of the media's attention on Liverpool now he's the captain. It would be horrific if that happened for England as well. Terry being captain gives a strong voice in the team on an area where there's less expectation to perform miracles, so it's probably better for the side.

Terry will give the team the kick up the backside they need after the dark days of Beckham's captaincy, and I'm not sure whether Gerrard would to quite the same extent (possibly because I don't know enough about him).

I never thought Beckham was a bad captain.

Re: [Football] A good day to bury bad news?
I thought it should have been Gerrard after CL final and FA cup final in two years, it wasnt Terry that made Chelsea win the premier for two years in a row it was Abramovich's money.
The roles of Captain and vice-captain should have been switched

Terry for me. Much prefer defenders for captains. Gerrard is a natural leader as well so I don't see it making much difference, they will both have their say captain or not.

I'd go with Ashley Cole.
He's so loyal, you know.
