The State of PA

hi

i played rounds 1-the first payround (round7?)

memories pretty vague

anywayz

i left coz rl caught up on me but thats irrelevant

at the time Jolt were coming in to take over PA, and after reading a lot of heart felt and genuine posts from spinner and the rest of the pa crew, the future did look real rosy for PA and i was sad to leave

now i got time on my hands again, so i figured i'd pop in and see how things are going

GJ on keeping this thing going

however

im looking through the forums trying to catch up on the history of pa i missed...and im seeing a lot of things said by Jolt that go back on what i saw promised when they first took over PA

whats the score

Re: The State of PA

Well:
PA is still here
Jolt is still here, and has a new community liasion (biffy)
Free accounts are available again (although they're limited)
The "new" PA arrived, and has since been modified to combine the better bits of the old version with the better bits of the new version.
Accounts are currently priced at £5 for 1 account, £10 for 3.
The current round (r12) ends in just over a week, with r13 scheduled for early in the new year.

And to refresh your memory:
the first paid round was round 5,
the first round with races was round 6.

Re: The State of PA

hehe that was really weak at the end A2

but ty for the ...somewhat informative post

funny thing is i came back here coz i was clearing out some old stuff and found a bank statement with my first payment to planetarion and i started reminising

anywayz since i left it struck me......i aint seen any advertisment for planetarion in the past....4 years? i been gone....and ive searched the internet high and low in my endless pursuit of porn

seems counter to the hope for a #newdawn of players into PA...

p.s £5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this got cheaper i might be tempted to pay for an account next round

Only £3.33 if you've got a couple of friends, or want to buy credits in advance for use in future rounds (3 credits bought in one go = £10)

Find yourself a copy of the August 2003 issue of PC Zone (UK).
Alternatively if you attended GameStars Live a couple of months ago in London, you may have got a leaflet mentioning it.
Banner adverts have also been trialled on various sites, although without the greatest of success.

Re: The State of PA

yeah i remember coming to this game through a firends recommendation....but then it was free

mopgd.com or w/e it was was bigging pa up big time as well

what i mean is for ppl who dont attend computer convention thing ma jiggies how do the world find out about this game... the x amount of rounds i played where prolly my most enjoyable out of any online game ive played, yet the 4? years (sry to many of lifes excesses my memory is swiss chesse ) i didnt think of pa once...and i wasnt reminded once.....

seems to me there scope of the internet is hooge with the dedication (#pa channel on irc? ) of dedicated gamers combined with the clout of Jolt it seems wrong that i could spend so many years away w/out hearing about this beauty of a game even once.....

while i aprreciate the community shrunk massively due to the (appreciatevily) much needed pay to play system, the word of mouth advertisement should be working a whole lot better than is apparent to me

ps....limiting the resource handling to 200 roids is pretty weak for a new starter

(yeah i just created a new account)

Re: The State of PA

LOL ?
from my point of view
r2 - okish round
r3 - utter boredom - stagnation^2
r4 - good round
r5 - see r3
r11 - good but stagnated late round nevertheless
r12 - battle for #1 alliance was not finalised until the very last week - says enough ?

rounds i haven't played but info on, due to having friends who were amidst the "top battles"orso of the rounds:
r6- "good"
r7- stagnated
r8 - okish
r9 - see r3/5
r9.5 - stagnated
r10 - good but many hated pax gameplay
r10.5 - see r3/5/9

i'm sick of these retarded claims that "omg lolorspa will be uberly great if we go back to teh old system !11", generally its people who cannot understand change nor progress as the game progresseswho think that, also other ones so lazy and shit that they cannot be bothered to learn new mechanics and instead want some nostalgic game everyones played to death, stuffed up their ass.
PA is good because:
1] Fluid Politics
2] Fluid RoidExchange
3] Blocking is viewed as "Bad"
4] IT IS NOT THE EXACT SAME GAME WE HAVE ALL PLAYED FOR YEARS ON END
5] New game mechanics or well "ideas" are innovativeand increase need of more thought into strategies etc
ie: Xp - promotes ways of playing the game rather than the all-too-familiar roid/score/res hogging *yawn*

PA is bad because:
1] Bad stats - which may/better/should be improved
2] Not many players - more effort in advertising but this is a very hard problem to solve as there is generally a less of an interest in web browser games
3] Jolt's apparent priority of money over the community
4] Lack of a "full-time" coder and reliance on Spinner for all coding needs

Going back to the old system is bad because:
1] Neverending repetition is bad
eod.

tbh.. that was my opinion on the gameplay.. I didn't take alliance politics into consideration at all.. The game I liked to play is long gone and probably will never return either.. and tbfh.. I had no problems learning the new mechanics..

oh.. "generally"? well, I'm not one of your "general kind of people"

Re: The State of PA

I believe the majority would prefer current PA to PA between r6-9.5, though r1-3 would be interesting - for a very short period.

What do you dislike about current PA? Proper points, that is. Whether you like it or not, I dunno if you've noticed or not, PA is "blossomming" since of r11, r11 and r12 have been rather good rounds, for the active core of the game, generally, and r13 shapes to be even better. But 2 orso rounds I'd give it before this also gets boring etcetc..

Re: The State of PA

Why did I like PA? Because it used to be simple.. the stats were pretty much ok and not as ****ed up as now. You had to play active to get a good position. There weren't prelaunch, which made people VERY lazy when it first came. Roid initiating is gone. Ships targets only 1 class which isn't as interesting as a ship targetting 3 classes. Covert-ops isn't useful, only annoying. Scans are inaccurate, which can be VERY annoying when it comes to BS incs. It's not that the game is hard to play now, not at all.. it's just crappy

that's some of the annoying moments about this game atm.. could write more and more when I got time for it all in all, lots of annoying and shitty things that makes the game worth $0 imo... if anyone else share my opinion I dunno, but I dont care either cuz Im fed up with it guess Im just one of the 'old guys' who cant tolerate changes

happy new year!

oh lord....dont boost his ego.... he is a nub he just doesnt understand that there arrived a gazillion clones that took away players, so they decided to to develop the game, instead of rolling over to die. Ofc, EVERYONE who played r3/4 and from there loved the earlier rounds of the game. Including me, but the main reason i loved it? because there where over 100k planets to attack, didnt have that much to do with the gameplay. Back then you needed dedication, a good galaxy, a good alliance, and good skills to win a round(i never had either), now you need dedication, a good galaxy and a good alliance and somewhat skill to end top10... Only reason you needed more skill earlier was because there were much more competition.(and ofc the hundreds of cheaters that made it hard to play it straight). And nadar, all what you list as bad, isnt all bad, so what if you cant get cov ops to work properly, there are many scanners and other ppl with no fleet that depends on it to make their round a little more fun. As for the prelaunch, i somewhat agree, dont remove it, set it max +3 hrs, instead of 11. And on the scans i agree 100%, as a bc it is friggin annoying to calc when its big bs fleets out flying. Unless jolt decides to put a great deal of money into this game, we wont ever see 10-20k players again, and thats the biggest drawback. The game itself, i like, tho i dont really play for the game, but more for the community, the game is a bonus.

Unless jolt decides to put a great deal of money into this game, we wont ever see 10-20k players again, and thats the biggest drawback. The game itself, i like, tho i dont really play for the game, but more for the community, the game is a bonus.
That was my opinion on why the game sucks, not yours

btw.. back then you needed to know what you did to get a good rank, now you dont, but that's mainly because of low playerbase..

Lokken's been responsible for some of the alliances that changed this game throughout the rounds. If you don't know about his achievements, you must have had your head in the sand. Or in NoS, same thing.

Re: The State of PA

If he wasn't HC of BlueTuba then I got no idea, but my memories says that's what he was... not saying it was a sucky alliance, but as far as I can remember it was rather unorganized.. what he did after I got no clue about, nor do I really care as it got nothing to do with this discussion at all.

I'm as old as the hills thanks

r2 was cracking (even though for me personally it was horrible)
r3 had its moments, although was very 1 sided - the smoking of KR was particularly funny.
r4 was decent
r6 was good although mind numbing
rest seem pretty dull, although i didn't play r8-10 .

This one's been quite interesting and bloody close, even if 1up ran away with it in the end.

From your sig it looks like until r7 you were a peon with your head in the sand, hence I can understand you have little knowledge of what was going on. By the end of r6 I stopped playing PA proper, I just play for a laugh now.

4 years on and still chuffed to the nuts about being Tuba BTW.

He gave his opinion on whether PA or PAX was better, and you rubbished it by saying he must have only just started playing. You then decided to laugh at an alliance who were many million times better than post r4 NoS, which is obviously your home.

He was the one who gave his opinion, you were the one who decided to take it to a more personal level.

Really, no.. he said r12 was close to a classic.. in no ways it was and if you thought I was 100% serious by saying he didn't play before r10(which I in no ways ment to be personal about), then feel free to think so.

Re: The State of PA

How was it classic?

And don't drag alliances, blocks, naps etc into consideration... pure gameplay, how was it classic?

Alliance and blocks are always interesting every round... but so is also the game dynamics, such as stats, new features for the game, if they're good or bad etc.. generally I mean how good the game itself is without taking alliances affection on it into consideration.

Thats exactly what the game is.

If someone asks me how good a round was i give them an answer that depends completely on how much i personally enjoyed the round. If i enjoyed the round i'ld be inclined to say it was a good round. Some of the early PA rounds had some awful stats, but the gameplay was fun, so everyone classes it as a good round.

Re: The State of PA

I've been playing pa since r3 or 4 (mainly as half-inactive noob) or something, but unlike many many others pa wasn't as appealing to me as it is now, pax style. I quit playing pa r9 or something (also missed a couple of rounds in between).
I started playing again in r10.5 and I've been hooked on pa ever since.
Imo Pax > Old Pa

r12 was one of the most enjoying rounds i've ever played. Victory was only decided last week (yes i know this has been mentioned before) and r13 seems to be very promising with Ministry, ToT, TFD and maybe others returning to the game.
r12 was close to classic and r13 hopefully will be classic...

Re: The State of PA

even though i turned in one of my worst performances EVER in round 12 (and that says a lot! hehe) i still enjoyed the round right to the end. Therefore there must have been something pretty good about the politics etc this is what makes it a classic - a long running fight, not all over in a matter of days or weeks.

i got kinda bored with the game after r6...only reason i still play is because its fun to play with nos, nomatter how much we manage to screw things up r4 was classic, r 6 & r10 was fun, the rest is just stuffing.
