When do finance centers become more useful than mines?
When do they? I'm just wondering if anyone has calced it

You need 800 roids or roids, mines and resarches of that worth to make them more productive than roids

It's not hard to calc. Assuming you have Basic Core Extraction and (for example) 5 mines already. A new Mine will offer:
Additional Res. = Mine Production
Additional Res. = 1000
A new Finance Centre will offer:
Additional Res. = CentreBonus(CoreExtraction + AllMines + (ResPerRoid * NumberOfRoids))
(At 300 Roids)
Additional Res. = 0.005(1000 + 5000 + (250 * 300)) = 345
(At 500 Roids)
Additional Res. = 0.005(1000 + 5000 + (250 * 500)) = 655
(At 750 Roids)
Additional Res. = 0.005(1000 + 5000 + (250 * 750)) = 967.5
However given the additional bonus later it is worth you starting to build Finance Centres a lot earlier than 750 Roids. I would think around the 500 roid mark is good.

Finance centers and mining as a priority do increase the output of a mine, so the actual break-even point lies at a higher amount of roids. There are other considerations to take into account. Mining can help balance your income over the different resources to your need. The downside of mining is that it costs research now and then (which will mean postponing another research).
It's not such an easy choice after all. I think I will start building them around the 500 roid mark (or later depending on any inbalance in my income).

Don't forget that after about 60 / 66 finance centres, the effect they give is negligible at best so there's really no point building any more.

Why isn't this in the manual?
Also "about 60/66" is hardly very precise, and how of much of an effect is a "negligible" effect? None at all, or just a reduced effect?

After having a chance to check:
The limit is 60 before they stop having an effect (ie. # 61 is the first one that will have no effect)
Finance centres from #61 and above will have no effect on income.
Apologies for this still not being in the manual until just now. I thought that it had been added a couple of weeks ago. The limit is now explained on the Construction page of the manual.

Is it possible to replace mining bonus with more than 60 finance centres?
I.e. building 70 finance centres and put mining on engeneering pri2 and still get 45% bonus?

If you have a lot of refineries then won't it be lower? (the amount of roids)
Isn't it better to see how many resources you get in total?
As it is close to 200k then finance center is better?

maybe you could code the limit, so no1 forgets it :-) Or a warning, for those who want excess FC to compensate if structs are killed

A bit off topic, but...
60th finance center will cost about 70k or more of each resource (assuming 10 mines here).
If you have 2,000 asteroids, that finance center will add about 2,500 res per tick. It would take like 3 days to pay it back already.
In reality, the cost will be a lot higher because if you are big enough to have 2,000 asteroids, you'll probably need to keep security almost maxed (or lose more resources to spy ops than those centers would make you), so let's say 30% security centers and 10 mines.
100 constructions => 30 security centers, 59 finance centers, 1 factory and 10 mines.
To construct the next construction, you'll be paying 100k of each resource, in addition, you'll need 30% of a security center to balance, so effectively 130k of each resource. With some rounding it already takes a week for this finance center to be in balance. A week is a long time when you could simply have built ships with the resources and kept construction at a lower priority (suggestion: 3rd or no engineering priority) and got more immediate advantage. Having less constructions also makes you a less appealing target later into the game.
Moral of the story: don't go construction crazy.
