Re: Doom

A medical captain is outside the chain of command unless in a medical situation.
Since the squad consists of thirteen men with Morgan acting as absentee commander we have one less commander than team. Add to that the fact that our field commander is invisible and we have no reliable on site leadership for two of the three fire teams... and our third squad now consists of a demoted sergeant, an assassin, an npc computer specialist and a psychotic.

Do we have a problem or what?

Re: Doom

{ooc} Thanks for that Richpur, I was just about to say that about the Medical Officer rank. {/ooc}

The Doctor was checking and re-checking his field equipment as he listened absentmindedly to what was going on around him. Leiutenant Morgan's words were heard, but the Doctor barely understood what was being said. He wasn't worried about which squad he was assigned to, his job was to keep these men alive, so he focussed on making sure his equipment was in working order.

Once he heard what the squad allocations were, he began checking and loading his Browncoat, after which he checked that his Baton was working, his Vibro-Blade was strapped on tight, and stood up, rolling his shoulders slightly and stamping his feet to settle in to his suit properly.

He tapped his comm and asked,"Leiutenant, are we expecting any survivors inside? If so I'll need to know the location of the Deimos' sick bay, since I can only carry enough equipment for this unit. And also, if any of you men need anything filled in your medikits, or if you need anything else from me before we get out there, let me know now.

The Doctor was ready, to go, all he needed was directions, and he would follow them...

Re: Doom

the way i see our coming missions is :team one reactor room : the area has been heavily damage, by who or what , we dont dont, but we can expect an outside group in that area, and so , i put those i saw the most fit for combat and repair the reactor, if needed (though we dont know fluffie character make up)

team 2 c+c : expect minimum problem, but equip to be fast and able to provide support to any team having trouble

team 3 : computer room: expect little to medium trouble if ship is board, either ppls tried to take the deimos computer over (which mean there s a boarding party in) or the computer room is shutdown with no ppls in, which in this case it s a simple repair and reactivation.

of course either the lieutenant morgan or the captain can overrule my team formation (provide we got all player info to work with.. :-) (wink to fluffie still absent character)

beside for those who have not read my character profile (this lieutenant hate space combat as he s prone to space paranoia (you dont want that unless in near combat) especially if he have to do space walk for long duration.. lol

Re: Doom

He quickly spoke "The third group should be lightly equipped and should have some hell runners". Hell Runners was a nickname he gave anyone who sprinted during combat, he had never known the experiance himself with his Browncoat. He looked up at the person who had spoken to him and gave a grin at the corner of his mouth. "Killin' stuff" He said proudly. He was a assualt speciliast given the rank due to his destructive nature with his chaingun. "And seeing as how ye' know my name, whats yers?" He asked quickly as he decidly looked longingly into the ship. Ready to move to the reactor. He had no problem with the assignment. He had actually wanted to have the reactor.

"mine, is Richard Armstrong, if you want to know, specialist Tinan" said the Lieutenant. "i make a business to know the names of those i have to work with" he replied with a slim smile.. "As long as you keep your tools and weapons functional, i dont expect to have to rescue your team" he said with a broader grin.
"as for Hell Runner, i m sure you may fill the position, if you run out of ammo" he finish with a small laugh.
"Just stay sharp and call for back up if there s trouble. I dont intend to lose any men while we get this old bucket of bolts back into flying shape."
"Anyone have questions before we spread out?"

Re: Doom

"Killin' stuff"

This snapped Rob's head back from his previous target of attention, the lieutenant who seemed really quite eager considering a corpse bouncing off the ship and a derelict vessel.

Staring once again at the guy proudly holding his chaingun, Rob looked hard at him, eyeballing the specialist thoughtfully.

"And seeing as how ye' know my name, whats yers?"

The lieutenant piped up first...

"mine, is Richard Armstrong, if you want to know, specialist Tinan"

Rob already knew this from a sneak peak at armstrong's PDA much earlier in the day, but didn't know a great deal about him. He seemed to be trying to eliminate as much confusion as possible... and it appeared to be working. Most of the marines seemed to accept their assignments without question, some looking for the others who were also in their group.

Hearing Armstrong throw out a couple more quips about the possibilities in the mission, Rob stared straight ahead at Grave, who had not yet responded to his earlier question. Shrugging slightly, Rob flipped out Blaze over his wrist again, and started to twist it around somewhat absent mindedly, but keeping a careful eyeball on the blade for any chinks that it may have taken in the last 'fight' it took part in.

Still playing with Blaze, he gave an intrigued glance over to Tinan, who seemed be getting ready to head out to his assignment.

"Killin stuff. Mmm. For what purpose? Because you're ordered to?......or is it for fun? "

Allowing a somewhat wry grin to himself, Rob turns and glances out one of the windows...

"Your bloodlust ... intrigues me ... I look forward to seeing your abilities should the need arise."

Re: Doom

Kaletin yawns as the others talk. Before a mission was probabnly a worse place to be. The anxiety, the adrenaline sitting inside of you without an output. Ah yes, boredom at its finest. His mind wandered on to other missions he had accomplished in his earlier career. He attention snapped to as Rob asked him a question.

"Killing stuff, because I can."

He paused for a moment allowing his sentence to go through. "And because" He points back towards the CO of the mission. He allowed a moment to pause "I am told to".

He gives a half grin and a laugh before swining the chaingun to his other shoulder. Not out of fatigue but anxiety, a nervous habit of his was to fiddle with his weapon. "Well don't be interested in me". He said with another laugh "Its the people on the otherside of me you should be interested in". He hefted his weapon raises it up. "And what is left of them afterwords" He laughed loudly before puting the gun back unto his shoulder.

Fluffie – Fluffie
Name: Fluffie
Rank: NonCom (l33t destr0y3r, (Mostest Bestest Marine))
Equipment:

1x Shoulder-Mounted Plasma Cannon (free) (33tness on a shoulder)
2x Plasma Pistol (2 slots) (one holster on each hip)
1x Vibro Sword (2 slots) (sheathed on back for l33t)
1x Shock Baton (1 slot) (extends from left wrist)
1x PDA (free)
4x Field Rations (1 slot)
24x Plasma Ammo Clip (6 slots)

Fluffie kills. He likes it, a lot. He assumes to be good at it. Probably had a very disturbing childhood. Isn't that young, isn't very old. Muscular, ugly. Likes killing. Likes killing, a lot, more. Dislikes authority, able to obey at times, which has gotten him as far as he is now, but.. .Well.. Who the F. knows. If i don't post in the thread, Fluffie kills. Or drinks coffee/eats chocolate. Very disturbing.

we need the dm (bakan) to provide (through lieutenant morgan) the ship schematics, and any last orders before going in, and probably also tactical scans , if available. once those are given/denied, we can start moving on..

Fluffie keeps to himself mostly. This all kind of reminded him of... Bad...

He shivers and quickly looks up, making sure nobody saw it. Creepy stuff. The stuff that makes a full grown man want to hide under the sheets - and cower.

****. Am I going insane?

He is looking at his feet now; apparantly he stopped looking at the others. Am I?

"I'll join in to secure the bridge and black box." Want to know what ****ing happened here.

"We could go now."

He raises his shoulders and shrugs, lightly.

"We're Marines. If we can't handle ourselves, who can?"

He smiles, invisible to others due to his helmet.

"Sir."

"Arrogance? Perhaps. Maybe I was too far away. Maybe his gun misfired. Maybe there's a horseshoe rammed up where the sun don't shine. But this is a conversation for another time. "

Noticing grave starting to move with the others, Rob stood up too, and gave his gear the once over just to be sure that everything was present and accounted for.

"Takes some degree of skill to use that thing effectively... If you can, then I'm feeling a little more optimistic about the company I've been assigned to join."

Re: Doom

The cabin shook under the barely constrained power of full throttle as the dropship did the zero-gee equivalent of a handbrake turn; a manoeuvre that goes barely noticed by one marine sitting in his harness catching up on his sleep. One eye opens just enough to sweep across the bay taking in the slightly blurred images of the rest of the team; finally it seeps into his consciousness that his seat isn’t trying to throw him across the room.

“Are we there yet?” he mutters into the headset before turning it on to a screech of synchronising encryption protocols; the channel mostly quiet as yet and only providing an echo of what he can already hear.

“Marines, attention!” comes a call from the new lieutenant as he lurches into the doorway, looking green in more ways than one. The lieutenant’s pause lingers for just long enough after no-one moves to attract Richard’s attention – this new guy doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself – might be hope for him yet. The briefing is remarkably brief and is accompanied only by the sounds of marines chattering and the ship coming up against the Deimos’ airlock.

The pilot chimes in on the intercom and announces what anyone could see on the airlock readout at the back of the cabin – that the lock in engaged but – well - don’t plan on breathing once you’re through it. Richard pulls his helmet on and locks it into place, the armour sealing with a perceptible hiss; within the time it takes for the lieutenant (first class) to excuse himself he has his supply pack strapped on and is giving his rifle a quick once-over when the second lieutenant starts organising things.

Richard smiles to himself at the banter passing across the cabin, obviously the wind down towards their ‘holiday’ time had got rather further along than regulations really allow. As his team’s ‘specialist’ shifts his chaingun to the other shoulder for the third time in as many minutes Richard checks his comm. to see how many are tuned in so far – well, all of his team anyway.

“Come on people!” he says leaning back against the airlock wall with one hand about six inches off the button to cycle the entire chamber, “Are we going into this ship or would you like to continue this little tea party in a vacuum?”

Re: Doom

"Caporal Dracir.. i m awaiting the deimos layout and structural analysis" said lieutenant Armstrong.
"Once we get the information, all team shall proceed to it designed target, make all necessary repair and report status once the job is done." looking at all men near the airlock, the lieutenant was confident, this group of hard trained guys were ready to deal with anything.. and that pleased him , as he hope all would return from what should be a routine in and out operation.

"i shall remind the team so far, be acquainted to your team mates and make sure everything runs smoothly" he continued.. "and if there s trouble, i want all team to converge to the area, i dont want any casualties"

"Team #1 you have the reactor room, yor group will include Caporal dracir, Demolition expert spunkmeister (npc), Marine/dr wayne (npc), and specialist tinan"

"team #2 is going to C+C, and will be including Captain Graymalkin, Marine Sam (npc), Marine Drake (npc) and myself" said Armstrong.

"Team #3 will head toward the computer room, and will consist of Marine Grave, Marine Fluffie, Computer Specialist Ghent (npc) and Specialist Teranin"

now prepare yourself, and once you get all pretinent info, move out and good hunting"

Re: Doom

"With all due respect, sir; you might as well wait for the lieutenant to mutate into a rampaging mastodon and clear us a direct path to our targets." Richard replied, beginning to wonder whether they hadn't got two rookies in command. "When was the last time we got full details of any mission before being dropped in?"

Re: Doom

"Caporal Dracir.. the way into a dangerous situation, is not how many problem or ennemies you overcame, but how you did it!, i shall send you in once i got enough data on this derelict and how to get to our target, if there is hostile in there, we ll deal with them accordingly!.. but having the schematic of this ship by scan should not take long and we ll soon be on our way. in fact here what i expect each team to do once they get at their assigned target area" armstrong said a smile growing..

"team one shall repair the reactor, then seal of all deck link to the space vaccum, and then restart life support, that should keep you occupied for the next few hours if not days.. "

"team 2 shall go in the c+c, repair the communication system and all internal sensor grid"

"team 3 shall repair the computer, then link all system to the main bridge"

"and of course, if there s hostile, we all get rid of them!, i reapeat, if any team get hostile, they are to request back up if they encounters a larger party than themselve, and we shall clear this derelict to flying shape"

i hope that answer your question , Caporal?!"

"And the black box, sir? Want us to secure that first, as per our real objectives or not?"

Fluffie sighed, silently though. He could've done all the assigned tasks at least three times in the way they stood chatting here.

(The stuff here that exists now doesn’t take up much room in our time, so in the future likely even less room, so it’s not unrealistic). Plus supplements for other soldiers medikits if they run out.
      • Field Medical Pack – Contains drugs to save lives (adrenaline, atropine etc), drugs to keep a soldier going (painkillers, “stimpack” type drugs), bioelectric scanner tool for spotting fractures and internal injuries etc, and one oxygen mask and supply, enough to keep a human alive for 24 hours maximum. Again, includes supplements for other peoples medikits if they run out.

      • Extended Shock Absorption Unit -These heavier shock absorbers enhance the combat suit limbs to be able to absorb impact due to acrobatic feats (duck and roll) and to some degree aids recovery from blunt blows or being sent flying across the room. The units in the legs serve to also absorb some sound made from walking and running across a variety of surfaces (minus liquid and creaky stuff). Due to the power consumption necessary to power these units, an additional power supply is required to service the arms, and another separate one to service the legs and power the absorbers.
  • Fluffie – Fluffie, if you are still interested, there is your weapon. Happy?
    • Name: Fluffie
    • Rank: NonCom
    • Equipment
      • Shoulder-Mounted Plasma Cannon – This cannon ties into the helmet HUD to target moving objects. Upon locking on it fires a plasma blast that carries the same power as a XP-A01-Plasma Pistol. It draws its power directly from the suit systems, however repeated firings can overdraw the armor power supply and cause it to temporarily shut down.
      • 2 - Plasma Pistol (2 slots) (one holster on each hip)
      • 1 - Vibro Sword (2 slots) (sheathed on back for l33t)
      • 1 - Shock Baton (1 slot) (extends from left wrist)
      • 1 - PDA (free)
      • 4 - Field Rations (1 slot)

  • NPC – Drake – Heavy Weapons

Listening to the chatter over the radios, Morgan groaned to himself. His trainers had ranked him one of the lowest in leadership potential, which was why he was shuffled towards non-critical assignments. It was fate of bad luck that he was now in charge of this group. At least one of them, a Richard Armstrong (Rop1964) seemed to be in charge, and was stating deployments. Looking over the profiles of the Marines, Morgan nodded and put on his headset.

“Marines, listen up. This nebula is playing havoc with our sensors here, we have limited interior readings. The best we can determine is that there is no power, and that’s it. I have uploaded the basic ship schematics to your PDA’s. Here is a quick rundown, please follow on the top left HUD.”

Typing a few buttons, Morgan overrides the default HUD on the Marines and replaces it with a wire frame schematic of the ship’s corridors. (DM Note: See Deimos schematics section following this DM).

“You will be entering near a key junction point, used for maintenance and repair on Deck 6. This bay contains some one-man repair vehicles and construction suits. The chamber has a double airlock feature, so one you go through the inner airlock; you will be at the main port corridor. This corridor runs along the entire port side of the ship till the midline, where it intersects the main corridor. Reactor Control, you will take a right upon exiting the airlock, meeting up at the main corridor. There should be a maintenance ladder nearby there that will take you down two decks towards the upper reactor observation room.”

“Squad 2, you will take a left upon exiting. You will only have a 50 meter walk to the C&C entryway. The entrance may be secured, so be prepared to be… creative in getting in.”

“Squad 3, Computer Control is located in the middle of the forward section of the ship. Exiting the airlock you should see a cross-ship corridor entrance in front of you. Take that till you reach the central turbolift junction. From there you can take the turbolift emergency ladders to Deck 4, which should place you right outside entrance to computer control. This will be secured as well, so be prepared.”

“Move on out, NOW!”

Squads
  • Squad 1 – Reactor Control – Check secondary reactor over and Initiate Power-up if stable
    • Richard
    • Spunkmeister
    • Wayne
    • Adam
  • Squad 2 – C&C – Secure Ship Black Box and Mission Records
    • Veritas
    • Sam
    • Drake
    • Rop1964
  • Squad 3 – Computer Control – Check ship systems, assist other two teams
    • Heiro
    • Fluffie
    • Ghent
    • Squidly

Cycling the airlock, Ghent, Sam and Drake moved in first, with Ghent running to the control panel of the airlock. Popping it open, he inserts a small assortment of cables into the ports, and starts typing away at his PDA.

Ghent: ”Squad, I’m overriding the airlock safety features, opening both sets of doors at once. With the rest of the dropship sealed off, we will be able to quickly enter. Stand by. NOW!”

The inner airlock door opens, and Drake and Sam enter, weapons at the ready. Darkness is the only greeting. Your boots automatically magnetize to the ground as your armor detects the lack of gravity, and your atmosphere indicators indicate very low levels of oxygen, high levels of nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

Sam: ”Lights, now!

Two floodlights, mounted inside the airlock pointed out activate, illuminating the junction point. The large doors for the one-man maintenance pods are closed, with two pods mounted to the floor. Off along the far wall are several large suits. A small isolated control chamber is off to the side, barely illuminated by the floodlights. As you move in, you don’t hear anything through the audio ports on your armor, nor see anything but abandoned materials.

Wayne: ”Nothing here. What is with this dust.”

All over the place, a thin layer of grey dust is moved around by the movements of the Marines. Moving along to the other airlock, one of your flashlights comes across a grey object. Wayne turns to it, fully illuminating it, revealing a badly decomposed corpse. The corpse is wearing the remains of what appears to be a standard issued UAC uniform that is badly torn, as if by large claws, with several brunt sounds on it. Mostly disturbing of all is the lack of eyes, instead are two gaping wounds.

”Marines, this is Morgan. The junction is secured, override the inner airlock and move out.”

Deimos Schematics
The Deimos is split into three main sections, Forward, Middle, Aft.
  • Forward – The Forward section contains the C&C, primary ship operations computer core, and a secondary reactor. In addition is contains the fighter bays, transport hanger, crew quarters and cargo bay. 6 Decks tall, 250 meters long and 100 wide, it has a distinct hammerhead shape. There are also 2 secondary engines used for additional thrust. In emergencies the forward section can be detached from the rest of the ship and function independently.
  • Middle – The Middle section contains the communications array, scientific labs and the computer core dedicated to sciences. 10 Decks Tall, 100 Meters long and 100 meters wide, it resembles a large sphere from the outside.
  • Aft – The Aft section contains the primary reactors and engines. 400 meters long and 200 meters tall, this section is a large rectangular shape with 9 secondary engines and 3 primary engines at the aft end.

The three sections are connected by several primary corridors that run bow to stern, with secondary corridors that run throughout the sections. Key sections of the ship are guarded by secured entrances that would normally have armed security personal controlling access.

Re: Doom

The Doctor moved through the airlock with some trepidation, this wasn't exactly a routine battlefield op, and he hated suspenseful situations. He knelt down to examine the corpse, his years of experience being the only thing stopping him from throwing up inside his helmet.
"Well, as expected, this poor soul's been dead for quite some time, difficult to say how long though. He's been torn up pretty bad, and it looks like some sort of claw or teeth marks. Big ones too. Fellas, I get a bad feeling about this."
Standing up, the Doctor thought to himself , Well, its unlikely we're gonna find any survivors on this old heap, I just hope Eric wasn't here...
As per the plan, he moved to the left and looked down the corridor.
"50 metres, huh? Jeez, with all the dust we're stirring up, we'll be lucky to get 3 metres visibility"
The Doctor sighed, "Allright, I'm ready, lets do this"

Re: Doom

moving through the hatch, passing the doctor, Armstrong started his infrared scanners as the light was good only in open and larg areas. the place filled with dust did nothing for visibility, so having his heat vision would be an asset. looking around he saw the teams heading in each assigned target.

"remember men, if there s any trouble, call for back up. i want a full report every 30 min."
" i ll take point for team 2, doctor, any idea what can have done this to the poor man?"

Re: Doom

As he stepped aside to let Armstrong forward, Graymalkin looked back at the grey shape near the entranceway and said, "I'm no forensic expert Lieutenant, and neither am I a vet, but the size of the wounds on the body indicate it was something damn big. Its possible that someone on the Deimos owned a large dog or something, but I wouldn't bet on it. And I can't think of any reason why a dog would specifically tear out a man's eyes."

A chill went down the Doctor's spine as the image of the gouged out eyeholes flashed in front of his eyes.

" I really don't like the way this feels team, those marks just dont look like anything I've seen before, let's just hope that whatever did that isn't still alive and on board this ship."

He unholstered his pistol and checked it once again, after which he returned it to his holster and drew his Vibro-blade, held it in front of him and let out a long slow breath...

Re: Doom

The marines spilled out into the open area fairly quickly, their training showing more than the unorganized mess that was the ship.

Rob took up the rear, staying in the darker parts of the room and cringing everytime a stray beam went his way.

"remember men, if there s any trouble, call for back up. i want a full report every 30 min."
" i ll take point for team 2, doctor, any idea what can have done this to the poor man?"

Rob took this into consideration. Muttering under his breath something to the effect of "Right.", he simply nodded once and turned his attention over to the grey blob that the lieutenant and captain were eyeballing.

"I'm no forensic expert Lieutenant, and neither am I a vet, but the size of the wounds on the body indicate it was something damn big. Its possible that someone on the Deimos owned a large dog or something, but I wouldn't bet on it. And I can't think of any reason why a dog would specifically tear out a man's eyes."

Cringing slightly under his helmet, Rob wasn't at all phased by the clawed body lying near him... it was the lack of eyes that disturbed him more. They were gone, not mangled or cut off. Of all the things he had seen before... Not corpse-defamation to this extent.
Snapping his head away for a second, he turned to hear the doctor:

" I really don't like the way this feels team, those marks just dont look like anything I've seen before, let's just hope that whatever did that isn't still alive and on board this ship."

"Team 2 .. follow me, time in get to C+C." , said Armtrong " 30 meter to the door.. " So far no movement or heat signature" pipes up the lieutenant, and Rob sees him head off in one direction towards his objective.

Unable to stay silent, Rob piped up to the group: "This guy was on his own it seems. Either ambushed or simply outclawed. Either way, we inside each of our groups should be in eye contact with all other members. It is quite likely, that anything hostile to us already knows we're here. Our deployment and entry has been about as quiet as one of my plasma grenades going off would be. "

Glancing over to Grave and Fluffy, he nodded to them. "Lead on. I've got no usefulness with computerized objects, and even less if something takes a potshot at me with this little cover."

Kaletin cheers loudly "Lets lock and load!". His chaingun carried behind him as he headed off the shuttle. Stepping through the airlocks was the worst part about docking. The chance that between that there was only cold space...and death. He must of reviewed the schematics tons of times. Preparing himself as he stepped forward. He followed behind the leaders and flipped his lights on looking around the area. Ignoring the antique state of this ship he looked over to the marine. Poor bastard, he thought to himself as he looked over to view a PDA. Not going much closer. "Any crazy beasts on this ship have to answer to browncoat". He say tossing his chaingun a little bit and catching it before taking the first few steps towards AFT. He turns around and then says "Squad 1 Form up over here. You don't mind if I take point do you?" He asks quickly adding a gleeful laugh.
