Doom 2

Doom 2

”Today, February 12th, 2216 the UAC is pleased to announce the one-year anniversary of the Tranquility Mars Base. The original Mars Base, lost in October 2214 to a reactor malfunctioned, pioneered revolutionary inventions. We are the UAC grieve for those lost that day, but Tranquility Base is going strong. Holding over 1,000 civilians, the latest series of inventions from Tranquility Base include….”

Sipping a cup of cold water, Commander Incom Morgan turned away from the display. Sadly, besides a large mural of one of the old NASA space shuttles, there was no view of the space outside the hull, thanks to the 10-meter thick hull, which left the display, taking almost one entire wall, the only source of something other than bulkheads. While the report was dated 2214, a glance on any calendar revealed the date to actually be 2219. Such was the life of those onboard the UAC Exploration/Science Carrier “Athena”. Thinking back to the launch of Athena back in January 2214, Incom wished for a glass of alcohol, but the lingering effects of long-term cryogenic-sleep made alcohol consumption something that the doctors strongly opposed. According to the ship internal clock, from launch to arrival over Alpha Centauri was only 7 months, whereas almost 5 years had passed back on Earth, with there being now a 3-year gap between most transmissions.

Thankfully nothing had gone wrong. The Athena, running mostly on auto-pilot for the journey, awoke the crew after the initial deceleration into the system, where for the first time human eyes viewed other planets that were not from the Sol System. A combination of 4 gas giants, 2 floating rocks, and 2 other planets that could have potentially held life filled the three-star system. Long range probes had long ago gone through the system, some crashing landing on the planets, their depleted systems unable to relay data back to their home. Hence on one of the 2 planets that actually retained an atmosphere, designated Chiron was a temporary base where approximately 100 members of the Athena’s crew were, searching for two of the probes to get their contents. The remaining 400 personal were onboard the Athena, which was fortunately designed to fit more people. Still, it would be nice in another month to reenter cryogenic-sleep as the Athena made her way back to Earth, where at the end of their journey, slightly over 10 years would have passed. Throwing back the rest of his glass of water, Incom Morgan stood up and prepared to leave when his wrist-link went off.

“Commander, Sensor Duty Officer Johnson reporting in. We have an unusual energy reading incoming.”

“Define unusual Officer?”

“Sir, I can not identify the type of energy, however I am able to plot its destination and source. It is heading towards Chiron and will arrive in approximately 2 hours. Its source, strangely enough, is the Sol system. Judging from its speed, I would have to say it was launched approximately five years ago sir.”

“I’ll be there in a few minutes Officer. Cmdr. Incom Morgan out.”

* * *

Shortly thereafter Cmdr. Incom Morgan arrive the to bridge of the Athena, set deep within her hull on Deck 3. He saw Officer Johnson instantly by the main tactical display, with Mr. Smith standing next to him, dressed neatly in his suit. Once again Incom sighed. Mr. Smith, as strange sounding as the name was, was a UAC intelligence spook, or so went the latest rumor among the crew. Rarely socializing with the crew (except the special corps of Marines that he commanded, numbering 20 total), rarely seen unless something strange was going on, and there he would show up. The worst part were the orders Incom Morgan got in mission briefing those many years ago, saying that Mr. Smith had full UAC security and intelligence council authority to issue orders, bypassing the entire chain-of-command onboard the Athena, along with full authority over his personal Marines, whom unless ordered by Mr. Smith were still partially under Incom’s command. Walking over to them, Mr. Smith looked over, and then looked back at the hologram and his PDA, typing away at stuff.

“Mr. Smith, Johnson, what do we have?”

“Sir, we are still unable to identify the energy signature. Its speed has remained constant with no change in it’s vector.”

“Any ideas?”

“None at the moment. I have computed the impact coordinates where the energy wave will come into contact with Chiron.”

At this moment, Mr. Smith blinked, then looked right at Incom.

“Commander, as of this moment, I am taking over two of your Pelican dropships, replacing them with my pilots and crew. We will be taking them to the impact coordinates. In addition we will need heavy drilling equipment. Finally, no one else from your ship is to land at those coordinates until we give the okay.”

Mr. Smith then walks calmly away towards the hatch, leaving Cmdr. Incom standing there. Shrugging mentally, he looks at the rest of the bridge staff.

“You heard the man, get two Pelican dropships loaded up and ready for imminent drop. Meanwhile, keep a eye on that energy wave and what Mr. Smith does.”

Two Hours Later

Standing at the console, Incom wondered what was going on with Mr. Smith. The energy wave passed and reached the surface of Chiron without incident. There was no explosion from the impact zone, nothing to indicate as to what may have happened. The IFF transponders on the Pelican dropships were still transmitting, and the status signal from them indicated they were at 100% status.

“Sir, we are receiving a transmission from Pelican 3. They are notifying us they are initiating emergency dust-off, and that they have wounded that need medical attention.”

“Clear them for landing. Have medical staff standing by to receive the wounded. I’m heading down to the landing bay.”

* * *

Standing at the observation area overlooking the hanger bay, Incom watched as the first Pelican dropship landed as the hanger bay doors slowly closed and the bay was pressurized. The boarding ramp opened, and several Marines, clad in the black armor of special ops emerged, carrying what appeared to be three stretchers among them. The medical personal then entered and took over. Looking at those on the stretches, Incom blinked in surprise, for all four were apparently nude underneath the blankets they were under, and all seemed to be suffered some type of wounds. Looking back at the Pelican, Incom saw Mr. Smith emerge, then look right at him, an expression of shock on his face, which shocked Incom all the more.

A few minutes later, Mr. Smith entered the observation area, and handed over his PDA to Incom.

“We have a problem Commander, and as such, under UAC Intelligence Act #67-Omega, I am clearing you for needed security clearance to review these records. In addition, the medical personal working on those three wounded are to be kept in isolation for the time being. I highly advise you to review these records. In the meanwhile, I’ll be in the medical bay.”

Character Creation

The Athena’s crew consists of the following:

50 UAC Marines
250 UAC Crew and Assorted Personal (includes engineering, medical, maintenance, pilots)
100 Civilian Scientific Personal (Many different disciplines) (Contracted to UAC for the duration of the mission)
20 Intelligence UAC Special-Ops Marines (Non Selectable)
80 UAC Officers (Non Selectable)

You are allowed to choose from the following roles. If you think of another role that you would like to be, ask me and I’ll consider it:
  • UAC Marine – UAC Marines are the backbone of the UAC forces. They are trained in a wide variety of weapons and equipment, and are equipped with the best possible hardware. For the Athena mission, the 50-person Marine squad are charged with shipboard security and general assistance of the science staff. For any veteran, this mission is considered a “milk-run”.
  • UAC Viper Pilot – For the Athena mission, with the ship entering unknown space, a need for long-range recon and defense from natural events (asteroid storms) was filled by the Viper interceptor fighters. Each fighter requires a two-man crew, and are capable of in-system travel. Onboard the Athena there are 6 Viper fighters, with 18 pilots. Viper Pilots are also cross-trained in Pelican dropships, but due to focusing on Viper piloting they are not as good as a dedicated Pelican Pilot.
  • UAC Pelican Dropship Pilot – The Athena comes with 4 Pelican dropships, which are used to ferry crew and equipment between the ship and planets. Capable of in-system travel, these dropships are atmospheric capable, can hold 25 people comfortable, and carry their weight in equipment. The Pelican dropship requires a two man crew. There are 12 Dropship pilots, who all are cross-trained for Viper fighters, but are not nearly as good as dedicated Viper pilots.
  • Civilian Scientist Assistant – These Assistants typically hold at least 3 master degrees in their field of study, and are under the command of the division head.
  • Medical Technician – The first-responder to any medical emergency that occurs, Medical Technicians are trained in triage, stabilization, and emergency treatment of wounded. Due to the nature of their job, their ID cards have access to all sections of the ship in times of emergency.
  • Ship Technician – Responsible for standard maintenance, these technicians can be found all over the ship. Due to the nature of their jobs, they have a deep understanding of the workings of Athena and many of them have ways of getting into systems or areas where they normally are not suppose to be.

At the beginning of the mission, only the Marines are allowed to actively carry weapons. However this will change fairly quickly. In addition, all personal onboard the Athena have received basic weapons training.

For now, pick out your role, provide a brief description of your character, and some history.

Equipment will be specified by me at the beginning of the thread. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of chances to change what you are equipped with.

Carry-Over Characters – The following characters have been carried over from the previous Doom thread with my approval. As of this time, due to plot reasons, no one else is allowed to transfer over their character.
  • Heiro
  • Richard
  • Flapjack
  • Inspectre

Weapons
  • M463 standard pulse assault rifle - The standard issue marine weapon, firing explosive 5.56x45mm rounds from a 50 round magazine. It spits out a lethal 1100 rounds per minute, using a gas cylinder system to load and fire the next round it creates no additional recoil. The low weight of the weapon combined with the high rate of fire makes this weapon difficult control when firing sustained full auto, as such it is equipped to use semi-auto, burst or full-auto depending on the position of the thumb safety, vastly increasing its usefulness at medium range.
While this weapon is dual wieldable, recoil will be extremely difficult to control and thus makes the weapons useless at longer ranges.

Range: NATO maximum effective range at 600m, maximum accurate range at 300m.
Ammunition: accepts all 5.56x45mm type ammunition, standard is impact explosive rounds.
    Capacity: 30, 40, 50 and 100 round boxes exist
Rate of Fire: 1100rpm cyclic, sustained fire does not overheat the weapon in a normal atmosphere

  • M463R standard light machine gun - Designed and fielded alongside the M463, this weapon fires the same ammunition at a much higher rate of fire, it was built to support squads and suppress enemies, which it both does remarkably well with a devastating 1500rpm. In order to compensate for the massive recoil this can produce, the M463R uses a much heavier build then the M463, despite this extra weight and the improved barrel and firing system which prevents overheating, the M463R should not be fired continuously.

Range: NATO maximum effective range at 600m, maximum accurate range at 300m for a point target, 450m for an area target.
Ammunition: accepts all 5.56x45mm type ammunition, standard is impact explosive rounds.
Capacity: Belt fed, belt buckets vary from 200 to 800 rounds capicity, standard buckets hold 250 rounds.
    Rate of Fire: 1500rpm cyclic

  • M231 standard issue army sidearm - The M231 was rushed into service to replace the older M134 5.7x28mm pistols, while using the 5.7x28mm ammunition, it sports higher reliability, less weight and the option for full-auto fire with a small foldable handgrip on the front of the weapon. While incapable of a high rate of fire, it sustaining only a meager 750rpm, its size means that it is an effective weapon for combat personell incapable of carrying a full size assault rifle or SMG. It fits a standard pistol holster.

Range: NATO maximum effective range of 450m, maximum accurate range at 100m
Ammunition: Accepts all 5.7x28mm type ammunition, standard is explosive
Capacity: 15, 20 and 30 round magazines exist, 15 is standard and fits fully in the pistol grip.
    Rate of Fire: 750rpm cyclic

  • M232 high power pistol - Introduced simultaneously with the M231, this pistol is used primarily by combat personnel requiring a powerful back-up that above all packed a walloping punch. Firing 14x90mm ball rounds, this weapon packs that kind of punch, sheer bullet size making the semi-auto only look completely irrelevant as a single bullet can often do more damage a burst of 5.56mm explosive rounds can do.

Range: NATO maximum effective range of 300m, maximum accurate range of 150m
Ammunition: accepts all 14x90mm type ammunition
Capicity: 12 and 20 round magazines exist, 12 round is standard
    Rate of Fire: semi-automatic only

  • M312 Multi-barrel heavy machine gun - Sporting 3 extra heavy barrels capable of rotating at speeds of 2500rpm, the M312 can generate an astonishing 7500 rounds per minute of .50 cal ammunition, be it explosive or armor piercing rounds, this gun delivers the most of all man-portable weapons availble. Unfortunately this utterly mind boggling rate of fire almost generates mind boggling amounts of recoil and slurps up so much ammunition, a full belt of 1000 rounds can be gone before your target even hit the ground. During sustained fire the barrels my heat up to over 500 degrees celcius, it therefore advised to keep flammable materials away from the barrels at all times.

Range: NATO maximum effective range of 2.5km, maximum accurate range supported of 250m
Ammunition: accepts all .50 cal ammunition
Capicity: belt fed, containers for 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 2500 rounds have been produced.
Rate of Fire: 7500rpm, prolonged firing may overheat the weapon in normal atmospheric conditions

  • Parker standard issue assault shotgun - Utilizing a single barrel and a much appreciated semi-automatic design, the Parker has an 8 shell internal magazine, which is somewhat cumbersome to manually reload. Therefore Parker also made special holders for 8 12 gauge rounds each which can be stuck on top of the shotgun and, by simply pressing the top platform of the holder down all the way, loaded into the shotgun. These holders cannot be used for partially loaded weapons as the shotgun cannot be fired with the holder attached, and the holder cannot be removed unless it's empty.

Range: NATO maximum effective range of 250m, maximum accurate range of 250 with solid slug ammunition.
Ammunition: accepts all 12 gauge type ammunition
Capacity: 8 shell internal magazine, 1 shell chambered.
    Rate of Fire: semi-automatic

  • XM453 experimental shotrifle - the 'shotrifle' as it was quickly called is an assault rifle style design, using shotgun ammo at high rates of fire. The weapon has not yet been standardized because current designs did not need replacement and the inherent problems with this style of weapon had not been solved yet. The XM453 is a 12 gauge shotgun capable of fully automatic fire and designed like an assault rifle, making close quarters use far easier then with conventional designs. It's 500rpm is far slower then normal assault rifles but was unavoidable with the high recoil generated by the weapon.

Range: NATO maximum range of 250m with solid slug, maximum accurate range of 250m with solid slug, 50m with pellet ammunition
Ammunition: accepts all 12 gauge type shotgun ammunition
Capacity: 20, 30 and 50 shell magazines have been produced
    Rate of Fire: 500rpm cyclic

  • M254 'Dragonbreath' manportable flamer - Dubbed the Dragonbreath for its ability to spit a gout of flame as far as 50 meters, easily making a wall of fire in corridors through which the enemy would attempt to advance. Using a specially engineered type of napalm which uses a minimal amount of oxygen while burning as hot as possible, though this limits the amount of time the napalm burns.

    Range: maximum range of 50m
    Ammunition: napalm
Capacity: cylinders capable of holding 5, 10 and 25 liters of napalm exist.

Armors
  • Standard Duty Uniform – The staple uniform of UAC personal, the material is a flame-resistant, durable cloth. It consists of black pants, dark blue over shirt with black undershirt, with rank and insignia on the left breast. In addition there is a durable leather belt with pouches for various pieces of small equipment, and notches for a sidearm. Finally this Uniform can be worn under all types of armors.

  • Fighter Pilot Armor – Not so much of an armor as a spacesuit with survival gear built into it. Covering the entire body, the armor is designed for flexibility and durability. In addition is comes with built-in computer, designed to directly interface with ship systems. The armor also comes with built in feeding tube and water tube in the faceplate, allowing the pilot on long missions to get something to eat. The armor has built in survival gear as well along the back, with enough food and water to last for a week if properly rationed, along with flares and spare clips. In addition is the built in emergency parachute system in case the pilot ejects in a vacuum. On the left leg is a slot for standard military sidearm. Finally the armor has enough oxygen to enable the pilot to survive in space for 3 hours.

  • Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – The standard armor for Marines onboard ships, this armor covers the entire body. It is designed primarily for situations where the Marine is helping with emergencies. Thus it is rated for exposure to vacuum for up to 1 hour, with enough built in oxygen to last for that time. In addition it is completely flameproof. On each wrist are slots for various pieces of equipment to be plugged in, typically at least a PDA, which is automatically tied into the helmet heads-up display, which displays statistics about the user’s health, armor status, communications, and other data. The armor is rated to take moderate fire from standard pulse rounds before breaching. It is light enough for the user to move about freely, but unlike more advance armors it does not enhance the user’s base strength. There are slots on the side of each leg, hip, and back for weapons to be attached. Finally it comes equipped with a right shoulder-mounted headlamp.

All Marines on-duty onboard the Athena are required to wear this armor. Off-duty Marines are to be in Standard Duty Uniforms.

  • Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 2 – Built heavier than the standard Marine Armor, this armor features all of the features on the Mk. 1 Armor, raising the Marine to stand taller and wider than if they were in a Mk. 1 armor, but they still have almost full freedom of movement. In addition it uses a powered exoskeleton system to effectively double the user’s strength. The armor itself is built with greater protection in mind, able to take sustained fire from standard pulse rounds before being breached. The left gauntlet contains an extendable shock baton, which contains enough of a shock to knock a normal human unconscious with a single blow. Repeated blows run the risk of killing the target.

  • Shipboard Marine “Riot” Armor Mk. 3 – The heaviest armor authorized for shipboard action, the riot armor is almost 2 meters wide and 2 tall. Completely clad in starship rated armor, it takes serious firepower to damage this armor. Instead of holding weapons, the “arms” of this armor are M312 Multi-barrel heavy machine guns, each containing 10,000 automatically loading rounds with attached shock grenade launchers. The armor is designed to enable these weapons to be as accurate as a standard Pulse Rifle. Slow and cumbersome, this armor is used typically for breaching situations are defensive of key sectors, but not in situations where mobility is a factor. Finally, the inside of the armor automatically adjusts to fit the user, thus most other smaller armors can be worm while piloting this armor.

  • UAC Agent Armor Mk.1 – Classified

  • UAC Agent Armor Mk. X - Classified

Name: Trisk Asurai
Descripton: Trisk stands at a towering 6'2" and has an athletic build. His eyes are a deep blue color, if you look into them its like they go on forever. His hair is a light brown color. He has several scars on his body. A single across his left arm pit to a inch away from his spinal cord. One dark red across the tip of his ribs (The bottom park) down to his gut. Another light red across his right palm.
History: He caused disturbances in class because of his eagerness to learn and unquestionable defiance in the face of wrong. Not to say he was stubborn but he would not rest until his truth was seen by those against him. Whether they believed it after that or not was completely up to those with alternate opinions. He grew up and shunned religions because he didn't have a basis to believe them. A ridiculous notion to people to weak or idiotic to see that power lay inside themselves, not in gods in the sky that acted in "Mysterious ways". Trisk joined the marines because he strived for adventure and the ability to help people around him.

Name: Dylan Reed (of course Different)
Age: 30
Position: Civilian Scientist Assistant
Degrees: Bachelors: Biology, Chemistry
Masters: Zoology, Anatomy

History: Dylan always loved science in high school. When he got to collage he got his bachelors in Biology and Chemistry within six years, he didn’t have a life. When he was about to go to graduate school the Athena’s mission was announced at his campus, they wanted junior researchers, and they wanted ones who were qualified by the time the mission was launched. He sighed up because he always wanted to leave the solar system for some reason. From that day on ward he knew what he wanted to do.

He went onto graduate school and got Anatomy and Zoology taken care of in five years this time. He wanted to apply for the Xenobiology School at Europa; it was the only one really. However the school did not except anyone who did not have at least a Bachelors in Oceanography.

When Dylan about gave up when he got the letter about his assigned position on the Athena. For the brief six month period before launch all the schools with anything studying life wanted him, but the UAC had him.

Description: He is average in height, however his build is almost a joke, and he is very skinny. He has a set hazel eyes, and Auburn hair

Re: Doom 2

Name: Ioachim Maddox

Age: 40

Rank: Gunnery Seargant

Class: Heavy Marine

Equipment:
-Standard Combat Armour
-Machine Gun
-Pistol
-Flashlight
-PDA
-5x Machine Gun Ammo Clips
-2x Pistol Ammo Clips

Desc: 5'11'' tall and weighing some 186 lbs. Short beard and moustache, long black straight hair. He is adequately muscular, though with a slight sag to his belly. Moderatly pale complexion and weatherbitten face. Hawkish nose.

History: Ioachim was born in Scotland on September 18, 2175. Throughout his youth his main interest was military and firearms: He would read every book he found on the subjects and write papers about them in school. As soon as he was done with the obligatory education, he immedeately joined up. He has spent two decades in the force and has, under that time, climbed steadily in the ranks to the height of gunnery seargant. He would probably have risen higher had it not been for his stubborn refusal to shave his beard and cut his hair. Normally unacceptable in any case, he has been able to deter anyone from forcing him to do either.
The mission to acompany the crew of the Athena was one he accepted gladly: So far away from civilization will hopefully break the pace of hunting and fighting guerillas back on Earth.

<ooc>This is my first ever RP post so be kind ) Hope I do ok </ooc>

Name: Scott Lee
Age: 32
Class: Ship's Technician

Equipment:
- PDA (Specialised: Ship Schematics, Onboard Computer Interface)
- Wrist Communicator
- Arm-Mounted Flashlight (Wrist Communicator Expansion Pack of own design)
- Tool belt (Plasma Torch, General Multi-tool, Wrench)

Appearance: 5'5'', short and limber with a clean shaven face. Muscular in build and very attractive although he sometimes walks with a slight hunch from all the time spent in conduits during upgrades and repairs.

Bio: Ever since he was twelve Scott has been inventing things. His parents realised that they had a prodigal son on their hands the first time he blew up his bedroom and the second time... they sent him to the UAC Training Corp. Scott excelled in the conceptual side of starship design, often growing impatient when he couldn't make things happen quickly. His true calling was discovered when he was invited to participate in the construction of a new AI (Artificial Intelligence) engine that would feature as the operating core for all UAC ships in the future. He spends many nights discussing the meaning of life and similarly deep notions with the Athena's computer over a pint of lager (synthetic - no alcohol, damn Cryo). Once he had served his time on the AI project the opportunity to participate in a real live mission and especially the challenge of maintaining an entire ship (with his fellow engineers of course) was too good to pass up.

Re: Doom 2

Guys, in case you didn't notice yet, Bakan hasn't posted an equipment list yet. As such, neither of you can pick equipment right now.

Re: Doom 2

Though I'd say for a first post that was fairly good.
Bakan does tell me it's Top Sekrit in nature, and wouldn't even let me, comatose, look at it

Re: Doom 2

well, if it's top sekrit, why do I prolly know more about it then the lot of you combined

Oh wait, that's because I wrote the weapons up, hopefully Bakan won't change them so much as for me to not recognise them. If he doesn't I've already got my weapons typed up, the type of armor chosen and hopefully even the right misc. equipment

Wow, you typed up a list of weapons, that must make you like god or something, allow me to cower before you.

Richard jabs at flapjack's ego with a pin and is unsuprised to note a loud pop.

Re: Doom 2

Name: Ryu "Dragon-rider" Fraser
Age: 22
Class: Viper Pilot

Equipment:
- TBC

Appearance: 5'10'', fairly average height and of a wirey build. High-G combat conditioning has left Ryu with a well above average muscular density, making him much stronger than he looks. Unruly brown hair and green eyes highlight his mixed japanese-candian heritage that's obvious through his facial structure.

History: Both of Ryu's families are pilots back many generations. It was therefore no surprise that Ryu felt pressured to join the UAC as a fighter pilot, no matter what his personal ambitions might have been. Resigned to his fate he entered the academy quickly learning everything they could teach him, including fighter pilotting and basic maintenance. He excelled at both flying and repairing the Viper-class fighters and was accelerated into the fighter combat training course after only a year in the mainstream academy. He spent the next two years on the High-G Orbital Training Platform and in the cockpit of a Viper. He graduated as a lieutenant first-class and was almost immediately assigned to the Athena. His parents, who had friends in high places attempted to repeal the assignment, but Ryu refused to be reassigned, for reasons of his own...

[ooc]Bah. I was hoping to get a little longer to write this, it's crappiness be on your head Bakan :P [/ooc]

DM Post #1

How DM’s work in this thread.

Typically there is content for everyone, labeled with an ALL. This applies to everyone, so please, take note.

Follows are individual DM’s. These are the ones that directly apply to you, so pay careful attention to these. In addition you may be stuck into groups, depending on how the thread goes and whatnot.

Time: 2 Weeks since last posting

ALL: Life in the Alpha Centauri system upon arrival was good at first. Accidents were rare and usually only involved minor injuries. People were in good moods, even the Marines, many of which were bored out of their skulls. However, that changed a few short weeks ago. The first sign was the accidental death of a Technician, the cause was him entering an airlock and cycling it, while not wearing a space-suit. In addition, fights started breaking out among the crew, the worst of which was a 25 person brawl. Strangely, none of those involved could recall what started it. In addition, episodes of depression started to spread among the crew, many of those affected hurting themselves, some even attempted to kill themselves. As of now, only 7 people have died, 4 by accidents and 3 by their own hands.

Some people thought that the cause was something unearthed at the outpost down on Chiron. Others, particularly among the flight crew, thought it might have been something to do with the unscheduled launches 2 weeks ago by the special-ops marines, or whatever was in the isolation ward in the Medical Bay. But no one on the command crew was talking about what was going on. The only things said by them was that the crew needed to be careful, to make sure to relax and not stress out, and that in a few short weeks everyone would reenter cryo-sleep for the journey back to Earth. Despite these assurances, the crew on a whole was restless and nervous, eager to cut the mission short and head on back to Earth

Individual DM’s
  • Adam – For the duration of the mission thus far, you have been assigned the duty of patrolling the Cargo Bays on Deck #3. While it may seem odd to be guarding it, there was a lot of sensitive and valuable equipment there. In addition, you were to help those authorized get stuff from the Cargo Bay. Normally you would have worked with Marine Davidson, but three days ago, he sliced open his face with his combat knife. You were barely able to stop him from stabbing out another eye, but the damage was done. He was still in Medical Bay, last you heard still under sedation. As you walked along through the Port Cargo Bay, you hear something strange nearby, behind several large crates, yet familiar enough to send a shudder down your spine, the sound of a knife going into flesh and bone.
    • Role: UAC Marine – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm, M463 standard pulse assault rifle
    • Equipment:
  • Fluffie – You wake up, the dreams of your dead brother haunting you. Yes, you brother, who was apparently killed on Mars, likes to haunt you constantly in your dreams. You figured that going to another solar system would help get rid of the dreams, and for a while, it did. But the last two weeks, they have been getting worse, so much worse. Anyways, your little “nap” took place while you were on duty, which is patrolling the starboard docking pod on Deck #3. You had taken a sit-down, opened a bottle of water you brought, and BAM you went into dream land. Your brother was there, screaming something at you about how you are going to die unless you get some weapons. Yet like always, the dreams are fading away, and your attention is shifted towards the sounds of a female screaming, and a man yelling, then the sound of flesh hitting flesh in a not-so-nice manner. It seems to be coming from up ahead, towards the Starboard External Science Lab entrance.
    • Role: UAC Marine – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm, M463 standard pulse assault rifle
    • Equipment:
  • Mrmao – You jerk awake at your console with a start. Shaking you head, you look at the time, and see that you feel asleep for just a few scant minutes. You thought that the journey here would be exciting, and that you would be able to set foot onto a alien planet outside of the Sol system. However, shortly after arriving, you were told that only senior scientists were allowed on planet, and that assistants like yourself were stuck on the ship doing data-crunching. Right now, you were examining the mineral content of a piece of rock from Chiron when your terminal shuts down and then reboots. You grumble in annoyance, for these computer malfunctions were happening more and more often. The technicians were apparently baffled by the malfunctions as well, and unable to resolve them. For some reason, you mentally recall these problems starting about two weeks ago, when some of the craziness started occurring. You were not involved in anything that has since happened, but had heard plenty about the incidents. As you wait for the terminal to finish rebooting, you hear a distant scream. You are currently in the Starboard External Science Lab, but in a isolated section for mineral analysis. You then hear the scream again, louder and more frightened if at all possible.
    • Role: Civilian Scientist – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Lab Overcoat - Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: None
    • Equipment: PDA
  • Dunin Hemm – You were bored. While it was nice not fighting on some random spot on Earth against guerillas, the lack of action onboard the Athena was something you didn’t expect. Being a Gunnery Sergeant in the UAC had placed you in charge of the Deck #3 armory and security station, where you mostly checked out weapons, checked them over when they were returned, and helped trained other Marines in the tiny firing range. In addition, more and more lately you have been acting as a jailer, holding people in the small brig in the back of the station, capable of holding 4 people in individual cells, and today all four cells were filled. Today you were in the process of stripping out an M463 standard pulse assault rifle, keeping an ear open on the prisoners when the hatchway opens and a UAC Marine steps in. Clad in the standard Marine shipboard armor, you are unable to see his face through the polarized visor, but the nametag over his left breast has the label of “T. Kilon”, a Marine whom, if you recall right, should be on duty down in Deck #1. Before you are able to ask him what is going on, the Marine raises his M463 rifle and starts firing randomly.
    • Role: UAC Marine – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm – Partially-Assembled M463 Pulse Assault Rifle
    • Equipment: PDA, Weapon Cleaning Kit
  • Ph8 – You are annoyed. For the past week you have been working on the ship’s AI system. About two weeks ago people started reporting problems with the computer systems, namely random reboots on terminals, files being lost, and in some cases, malfunctions in systems controlled by the ship computer, including one where a ship technician was working on one of the plasma relays for one of the engines, and the computer activated the plasma relay despite the override being in place, instantly killing the technician and horribly burning another who was still in Medical Bay. Leaning back in your chair as you examine the lines of code in one of the sub processors, you look around the room. You are on Deck #3 in the Computer Core access room, your standard office. It seems lately that the problem is that somewhere the computer is using an excessive amount of processing power, but you have been unable to determine where the processes are, and the amount of processing taking place has lead to various code corruptions. There were normally many safeguards against this, however they were not working, hence you were examining them line by line to make sure they were still working when suddenly your terminal goes dark and resets. Grumbling, you activate a back-up holo-pad of the ship AI functioning’s. Everything seems to be okay, however you then notice a flicker of the code, as if something was rewriting parts of it. Before you can examine further, an alarm goes off, indicating a potential overload. You can either attempt to exit quickly, or the more risky alternative, try to override the overload using another backup terminal in your office.
    • Role: Ship Technician – AI Computer Core – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: None
    • Equipment: PDA, Computer Repair Kit, Multitool
  • Gokan – Looking out the cockpit of your Viper fighter, you listen to the hum of the engines through your helmet. Adjusting the flight stick, you turn the fighter around slightly, bringing into view the planet Chiron, and currently a dim spot over it, the Athena. Your mission was one of standard recon, making sure that the Athena was not as risk from asteroids or other space debris. Now that your mission was at an end, you were heading on back to land at the Athena. Your co-pilot behind you is taking a short nap, required since you had been out for 4 hours. Triggering the thrusters, you hear your co-pilot then scream suddenly, then a smashing sound. Turning slightly to look behind you, you see him in the midst of some kind of seizure. You quickly switch over full control to your station and disconnect the co-pilot’s controls, but for some reason, they don’t switch over. Your co-pilot, Lt. Garwin then slams his head into the panel, and alarms go off, and the Viper starts to spin. Your options, you quickly realize, are to eject your co-pilot, which would be the safest, or shoot him, which would be bad. Or possible, you could hit the emergency override behind you, which would disconnect all control systems and reboot them, but during the rebooting period, you could pull the override behind you to take manual control of the fighter.
    • Role: UAC Viper Pilot – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Fighter Pilot Armor
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm
    • Equipment: PDA, Survival Gear
  • Inspectre – Pain. That’s the first thing you feel. Your eyes are heavy to the feel, and opening them takes nearly a superhuman effort. You are only able to see fuzzy outlines, but you are able to hear the sounds of medical equipment. Your body as well has the funny feeling of you being pumped full of drugs. You take a few minutes, trying to figure out how you came to be here. You remember being on Earth, working, then kidnapped by UAC agents, taken to Mars, then everything going to hell. It is then that your memory really gets fuzzy. You have flashes of images, intense fighting, lost allies, and despair. Looking up a little, you tilt you head. Your vision continues to clear up slowly, and you see a nurse standing next to you, adjusting something and talking to someone out of eyesight. At least she looks human. You try to raise an arm, and see that it is unbroken, which you find strange for you had the distant feeling that it should have been horribly broken. Your hearing then starts working properly again and you start hearing various voices fading in and out.

“… looks like they all are coming out of it Doctor…”

“… still don’t understand what would cause such a neural shock…”

“… Mr. Smith reports he is on his way up to talk to them…”

“… I don’t approve of him coming here right now... they all just got out of major surgery…”

You then flash back, feeling the impact of great force against your left side, the bones crunching, and strangly, looking into the face of a creature, and stabbing your hands into it’s face, the blows disintegrating the face. You then flash back to reality and turn to see two people, one clad in a neat suit, another wearing the duty uniform of a UAC Commander, with the nametag reading Cmdr. “I. Morgan.” The suited man starts speaking first.

“Hello son…. I know you just went through a lot. I’m Mr. Smith of the UAC Security Council. Tell me, what do you remember.”

Your vision continues to clear up slowly, and you see a man in a neat suit standing next to another bed, and you recognize the civilian that joined you on mars. Next to the suited man is another person wearing the uniform of a UAC ship commander. You then feel hatred over them, the exact reasons escape you for the moment, and then they come over to you, and the suited man is the first to speak up.

“Hello son…. I know you just went through a lot. I’m Mr. Smith of the UAC Security Council. Tell me, what do you remember.”

You take a few minutes, trying to figure out how you came to be here. You remember working on Mars, with everything quickly going to hell. Flexing your hands, you are surprised to feel no pain, which you find odd for you can’t exactly recall why they should be in pain. Looking around, you appear to be in a hospital ward, with several other beds around you that you somewhat recognize as being for intensive care. Standing over one of the beds are two people, one wearing a neat suit, another wearing the uniform of a UAC ship commander. They then leave the bed and walk over to you, with the suited man speaking first.

With barely a though, it rises, revealing the metallic glean of an artificial arm. Thankfully it is not filled with pain, and looking at it you see it goes to your shoulder. Looking around the area, you see that it is some kind of intensive care ward, isolated judging from the small size. You see four other beds, all of which filled with people that you recognize. In addition there are some people clad in doctor’s uniforms, and two others, one clad in a nifty suit, another wearing the uniform of a UAC ship commander. The two then approach you, with the suited man speaking first.

Nothing so far. He heard a noise and turned it was a familliar sound but what was it? It had to be something but what. Trisk continued forward being silent listening to the sound and suddenly he remember with a horrified look. Not again no. He thought to himself. Trisk sprints forward skidding down a hallway to the noise he glances around and prepares to free his pistol or rifle if needed.

Scott glanced up at the blaring console - "Overload Imminent, intervention required." flashed in large red letters on the dark screen repeated out loud in the voice of the AI, it was a cold, calculating voice that as always seemed distance almost as though it's impending demise didn't bother it in the slightest. The AI's avatar flashed up on the holo-pad next too Scott - the trend of the time was for AIs to have smooth, sexy avatars, the sex of which depended upon the author. In one of his moments of brilliance Scott has created Sh'ia the ships AI from splicing the properties of three of his ex-girlfriends into what was, in his opinion, the 'ultimate' woman.
Scott Sh'ia slurred hesitantly, my processors have been running at 95% capacity for almost twelve hours I.... The voice cut off abruptly as the avatar vanished and lights station-wide dimmed. Scott knew what this was, he had written the subroutines after all - the first step of the shutdown series, the series which was meant to prevent blowouts from overheating but this one wasn't like any theoratical scenario, all the processors were occupied , not just a few - the shutdown wouldn't complete in time. Something had to be done, now.

Scott leapt from his chair sending it crashing backwards onto the floor behind him racing across the room to the access point control station - this was the only thing he could think to do. Pushing series of buttons on the touch-screen Scott shutdown wireless routers positioned to provide computer access throughout the ship leaving only the bridge systems (and of course the computer control room) routers with power. He breathed slowly and watched the processor heat display. It was slowly descending now from 42ºC to a more normal 24ºC... he breated a sigh of relief. Now all he had to was find out what the Fragg was going on while the rest of the ship puzzled as to the sudden loss of all their computer access. Localised systems controlled all the important things like airlocks and bulkhead/cargo bay doors and he'd just have to hope they weren't infected.

Sh'ia had reappeared and waiting patiently to assist Scott in the task ahead, over time a technician grew close to his 'av' and as he settled down to trawl through her underwear draw, so to speak, Scott couldn't help but throw her an admiring sideways glance. Sh'ia had been one of his late-night fantasies for some time, he doubted she knew he ogled her occasionally but it was definitely one of the perks of the job - after the overloads and all these wacky reboots of course. Sighing heavily he sank deeper into his (now righted) chair calling the soldier outside the door to grab some coffee, it was going to be a long night...

Re: Doom 2

*Flapjack leaned back again, trying to recall how he got here. Had he managed to send the distress signal? He distinctly remembered setting up the transmitter array, aligning them towards a booster satelite in Mars orbit. Before that, much was fuzzy, there had been a dropship, it had exploded, those inside moved to the medbay. Then something had attacked the medbay, just when he'd considered a safe place to be, but he couldn't remember what it was that had attacked, just that horrible noise. They'd made a run for it, something had exploded behind them and the emergency bulkheads had slammed shut. The next thing he remembered was the comm array. Before that, he'd been sent out to repair something when it happened. The rest was all blank, he couldn't remember sending the signal but he could assume they had sent it, if they where on a ship then they must have been picked up from Mars*

*Glancing around again, Flapjack noticed that his being awake hadn't been noticed by the nurses or doctors yet, the only doctor he could see was standing between him and a bed. Someone else who had been on Mars base perhaps? He couldn't see with the doctor inbetween*

Alarms scream in the background as Ryu attempts to bring them out of the wild spin, grappling one-handed with the control column and hammering various other controls.

Four hours out. Damn. Can't eject him, his oxygen'll only last three, not enough time for a rescue to arrive. He grins briefly before grimacing at another loud crash behind him, Shouldn't really shoot him.

Other options exhausted Ryu reaches behind him, groping blindly for the override and finding it quickly. He sharply twists the control clockwise and feels it slide further out of the control panel. Pausing for a breath he twists it counter-clockwise and pushes it into the panel. For a moment, nothing happens, then the engines and various cockpit readouts die, along with the alarms.

Quickly he tries to find the other override; after a few painful contortions he finds it. He curses as he realises he won't be able to activate it without additional leverage. Without hesitation he unbuckles his safety harness, disconnecting the torso and shoulder restraints, leaving him held into the cockpit only by the straps across his thighs. Now able to twist in his seat he turns and looks at the control. He grabs it with both hands and pulls it sharply down.

A high-pitched whine fills the cockpit as systems start to come back online...

Ah. So that's what breathing feels like. After the incident...
...and that's all. His mind flickers in places, and a fistful of images whistle past his eyes.
A Commander.
A punch.
A suicidal mission.
Christ. So many dead.
Tears well in his eyes and he tries to reach up to brush them off, to no avail, his arm refuses to move. Flexing his fingers in the vain attempt, he at least decides he has arms. His mind flashes back to his companions. Erlan, The civvy. What a tough bastard. No one could have pilotted that craft back on mars but him. And a great shot with a pistol and a rifle too. He'd of made a good marine.
"I..."
His voice crackles from his throat. It felt like it'd been cut.
"I... remember..."
Shaking now, he forces his body into a sitting position, causing the medical instrruments to go wild. With a clear surge of adrenaline, he gets his words out.
"I remember... Enough."
Pausing, he takes a pair of ragged deep breaths.
"I aught to take that marines pistol and shoot you right now. You and your entire company."
His head sags under the weight of the emotions.
"So many..."
His voice trails off into ragged sobs, shaking his whole unstable body to the core...

Re: Doom 2

Outside the room, which was nothing more than a simple wooden shack - old in every aspect -, thunder cracked down from above, accompanied by a frighting and threatening flashing white light coming through the cracks in the wall.

Inside were two men, one dressed in a standard UAC uniform, the other not much more than a wrecked and wretched looking shadow, resembling an armed and armoured marine - too from the UAC -. Both leaning on the table with their hands, both passionate. One near angry, knowing what was going on; the other not knowing and confused, maybe a bit scared - and sad, for he knew the other had gone.

"Take the gun. Take the ****ing gun!"

The last was said in a way that approached roaring very closely. There were tears coming from his eyes. The one wearing the uniform was fighting his own back.

His brother shoved the pistol across the table again, after Fluffie had shoved it back to him before. Why the weapon, was he going to die and why? How? Like his brother had, even though that had been an accident?

Then the uniformed man suddenly finds himself back in reality, jerking out of his sleep. He had been awakened by the sound of his bottle of water falling. It was still open, which meant he would have to clean it up and fast, before anyone - and most noticeably, one of his superiors - found out he had been dozing on the job. Bending over and reaching for the bottle, he jerks for the second time in the fairly short period.
This time his head shoots to the right, staring at science lab entrance.
What he had just heard, did not sound good. This ship had been ****ed up and around too much already and he had managed to stay clear of it so far (if one ignored the dreams). This was not what he wanted, ...but.

But yeah. He had a job to do.

Standing up and letting the bottle fall for a second time, he loaded his pulse rifle, making sure the sound of it is was audible so that to anyone close enough could hear it, but also to reassure himself a bit, to ease the feelings left over from the dream a bit...
He let the safety on, but kept his thumb near it as he jogged over to the entrance. Some force, screaming and threatening usually calmed people down or stopped them from continueing their carving on or in people.

The pin comes out and we'll put that there, next to the screws. Lets see if we can loosen that bolt now, mm....
As Maddox sits behind the desk in the forward security station, his throughts are momentarily kept away from the worrying developments of this wretched mission. He's been looking over his shoulders the last couple of days, unable to stop himself from keeping a constant vigilance against whatever illness has infected the minds of the crew. Then again, it's probably wiser to be ever alert, lest he end up like the 7 already down.

He glances to his right at the row of cells, checking the prisoners. They all seem to be resteing, or at least doing nothing. He shrugs: He's not acquainted with any of them and has no wish to get so either. As he is about to remove the firing chamber from the rifle, private Kilon steps in from the corridor outside, his face hidden by his visor. Maddox frowns and opens his mouth to say something less polite about the marine's presence, when suddenly Kilon raises his rifle and begins firing.

Maddox has barely time to utter a brief : "Oh, shit..." before a round slams into the wall, a few inches away from his unhelmeted head. He dives to his left and retreats behind the desk. The rifle is, obviously, of little use, so he quickly whips out his sidearm and unsafens it. Two rounds break through the desk around him and with a grunt he turns around the corner of the desk and fires twice at the private. One hits home and pierces the right shoulder of the man. Losing use of hsi right arm, Kilon then autofires the rifle with his left hand, and the bullets spray around the room out of control.

Maddox can hear some of the prisoners dive down under the bunks; one or two don't seem to react. Suddenly, two ricochets slam into his chest, but their lessend force is absorbed by his chest plate.

*Click, click, click, click, click.....* End of the clip.

Maddox leaps around the desk and throws himself over Kilon, joping to tackle him down and restrain him before he can make use of his own pistol.

Dylan sighed, if he was smart he would stay at his machine and keep crunching numbers. His deparment head wanted the results as soon as he got them. However a break from the tedium even if it meant trying to stop someones suicide is just what he wanted, heck maybe he would even oblige them he was so bored.
As he got up from his treimnal he reazlized he should probably alert security too. he grabed his PDA and quickly compossed a message. It read, Terrified screaming in Star Bord External Lab though you guys might like to know. With that he headed to the door to see what the heck was going on out there.

Re: Doom 2

A loud, terrified feminine scream surged through Arlan's mind, shocking him back from whatever void he had been in until now. A split-second later, Arlan's subconscious took over, and he drew a deep, pained breath of air. The air tasted of recycling, and even in his disoriented state, Arlan knew he was either on a ship or in some sort of sealed installation.

Painfully, Arlan forced his eyes open, and they told him what he already knew: he was in some kind of institution, probably a medical ward from the hazy view of the room he had from his bed, and the large banks of medical equipment that surrounded him. Slowly, his memories came back: his investigation of the UAC, their blackmail of him through his sister, his surrender and arrest, and finally his arrival on Mars. Mars . . . at the corners of his memory, dark things skittered at the mention of that word.

When he tried to remember what happened once he got to Mars, however, Arlan drew a blank. Was he still on Mars? And if so, why the h*ll did his side ache, when he certainly didn't remember injuring it.

Suddenly, an image flashed through his mind: the cockpit of a shuttle wildly screaming through the Martian atmosphere, with him at the controls. In the cockpit with him was someone else . . . someone who wanted to kill him, who clawed and shrieked at him as he fought to keep the falling apart shuttle flying. Turning to shoot a quick glance at the figure he had been blindly trying to fight off, Arlan froze as he saw the peeling skin and slack jaw of the . . . thing that had been trying to kill him. While it may have once been a person, it certainly no longer was. It had been twisted, corrupted to fulfill some sort of sick fancy that the universe had decided to embark upon. It was the living dead . . . a zombie.

Just as suddenly as the scene passed into his mind, the scene vanished back into the ether of his memory, leaving Arlan with the feeling that whatever had happened when he had gotten to Mars, it hadn't been at all pleasant. Continuing to muse on the subject, Arlan felt trances of other memories come back, little more than dull feelings that he had felt during his apparent stay on Mars: fear, despair, hatred . . .

Leaning his head back into the pillows, Arlan shook himself out of his reminiscence, and instead focused on the clearing and pretty visage of a nurse who had come over to check his vital signs. Without meaning to, Arlan began to imagine what she would like as a zombie: her long hair into a tangled mane around her snarling face, her soft skin beginning to peel away around her nose and lips . . .

With a shake of his head in horror, Arlan thrust away the image, and found he could now hear again to. Several people were talking in his immediate area, and although it was hard to make out what they were saying, Arlan got the feeling that most of it was about him.

Several minutes passed, and as Arlan's senses continued to return and sharpen, so too did his feeling on pain. Thankfully, the drugs that he was undoubted pumped up on lessened all of it to a dull ache, but he could still feel it in his left arm and, inexplicably, his left side. Once again unbidden, another image flashed into his mind: him madly charging some sort of hideous, nightmarish creature that easily stood two or three feet over him, screaming an inarticulate battlecry of rage mixed with despair. Still screaming, Arlan leapt into the air towards the creature, evidently too upset to realize the insanity he was committing. With a grunt, the thing pulled a massive claw back and swatted Arlan away as if he were a fly, but not before he stabbed his hand forward and up, jabbing them into the creature's face. The monster howled as its face mysteriously disintegrated away into dust, while Arlan meanwhile flew backward through the air from the impact of the creature's claw on his left side. With a sickening crunch, Arlan hit a nearby wall, and then the floor, and the scene faded to blackness.

Coming back around once more to reality, Arlan could see that he was no longer alone: some man in a suit and a man in a UAC uniform were standing at the foot of his bed. Sh*t . . . evidently he was still a UAC prisoner . . . although perhaps not, considering the fact that he wasn't, at least, handcuffed to the bed. Then again, perhaps they didn't think he had the strength to get up and try to make a break for it. Well, they'd learn their mistake, alright . . . just as soon as it got just a bit easier to breathe.

In any case, he'd have to deal with his two visitors first. The suit was the first to speak, saying in a false, friendly tone, “Hello son…. I know you just went through a lot. I’m Mr. Smith of the UAC Security Council. Tell me, what do you remember.”

With great effort, Arlan formed a wad of spittle in the back of his throat, and then let fly at the UAC agent. Unfortunately, his lips still lacked a bit of muscle coordination, and all he really managed to accomplish was drool all over himself.

"F-f-f-fu . . ." Arlan croaked, and then pushed on, his voice gradually gaining strength as he continued to exercise his recently unused vocal cords.

"F*** you, UAC. I demand to know what's happened to my sister. You told me you'd let her go as soon as I turned myself in, but after what's happened to me over the past few days, I trust you b*stards even less. I'm not telling you sh*t until I get proof that my sister has been released, you sonofab*tch."

Re: Doom 2

Something hums.

He doesn’t know what it is, but it’s there, growing louder. There’s no definition to it, just a low sound, not even a monotone, just there. It really is beginning to get to him: his universe consists of a single, generic hum. He wants to scream just to break the grip that one noise had on him but his throat seems clammed shut. He realises he would do anything to end that noise…

The first Richard knows that he is still alive is when he wishes he wasn’t.

With a force of effort wrought out of sheer desperation he opens his eyes. The result is not reassuring. Whiteness, unending whiteness. He turns his head and edges start to appear in the white, vague forms that gradually resolve into people, equipment, and a box next to his ear giving off a low, almost imperceptible hum. He glares at it, resolving to kill it later. The thought doesn’t even seem that strange. His attention shifts down to his own body, or rather the area where he was expecting it to be, buried as it is under a veritable mountain of equipment. The only part left uncovered seem to be his right arm, which he raises. It shines in the clear medical-grade white light. Thinking about it he realises that doesn’t hurt, although he can’t think why this should be such an unexpected discovery until it seeps through into his consciousness that the entire rest of his body is hurting like hell. The mental phrase amuses him, he’s seen hell, and this isn’t actually so bad.

“I… remember…” a familiar voice gasps on the edge of his hearing. Richard sits up slightly, and looks around for the source of the sound, finding it laid on another bed not far away, and another two. Only four, four out of so many that he can’t remember. He sighs and tunes back in just in time to hear a suggestion that everyone be shot. More killing; hasn’t everyone had enough?

“F*** you you AC.” He hears next, and wonders what sort of an insult AC is before remembering where they had been before things started going to pieces. UAC. A fresh wave of pain swallows his thoughts for a moment and the next thing he knows a man in a suit is standing over him speaking.

“Tell me, what do you remember?”

Richard lies back. In the ceiling above him he can barely make out the shape of some sort of light fitting, the harsh beam blinding him momentarily and his eyes blink in an attempt to adjust. When he lifts his head up the room seems a lot darker than the light would have led him to believe, the shadows seem to skulk in every corner as though attempting to hide from the light. The light, as he looks around the light seems to dim further, the darkness encroaching on him as he lies there. He sits up, the motion making his head swim and for a moment the lights seem to go out entirely. His eyes widen and he pulls back, taking short sharp breaths. The light fades back in with a distinct orange tinge coating every surface like the beginnings of rust. Somehow the room seems darker with the light than it had without it, the shadows seem darker and harder, almost coalescing into something more substantial. A scratching, buzzing sound seems to come from further down the room and he turns to look. The contorted face flashes towards his own, screaming amidst a blur of insectile wings.

A light is shining into his face, streaming through a rectangular opening, he hears lumbering footsteps behind him and something moves in his peripheral vision. He goes to run forward, realising the light for what it is: somewhere safer, just has to reach the door. But his legs refuse to move and he falls, twisting as he goes down he brings his hand up. The metal glints in the light of the plasma flames then melts away in a blast of heat that lashes along his arms and through the gaps in his fingers. Richard’s face bursts into flames.

The light above him flickers and turns an angry red as the room fills with alarms. Then a sense of falling, and twisting as a man in a suit wrestles with some sort of controls, seeming to rely on curses as much as physics to keep them up. Richard’s vision blurs and fades out as the sound turns to a piercing whine and the room drops faster and faster; it’s like being stuck in some demented lift with a death wish. With a violent crash he stops, suddenly at rest.

“Everything.” He begins with a soft sigh. “and more.”

Re: Doom 2

DM Post #2

Walking through the main corridor, Incom looked over at Mr. Smith, whom was checking something on his PDA. Mr. Smith’s reactions

ALL:

Individual DM’s
  • Adam – As you run down a hallway, you hear the noise again, and you follow it to it’s source. Sitting in a corner, rocking back and forth is a man wearing a UAC Standard Duty Uniform. From your vantage point, you see he is holding a knife, dripping with blood. You take a step, and the man turns to you, and you take an involuntary step backwards as you stare into the hollow eye-sockets. The man stands up, and you clearly see the former occupants of the sockets on the ground. You also clearly see the man’s face, it is badly cut and many of the wounds are still bleeding. Then man then leaps at you without warning, knife slashing towards your armored chestplate.
    • Role: UAC Marine – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm, M463 standard pulse assault rifle
    • Equipment:
  • Fluffie – Running past a corner, you hear another scream, one that is cut off far to soon, and you run into a lab room. A man dressed in a UAC Standard Duty Uniform standing over another person, this one clad in a similar uniform, except you can clearly see that the one laying on the ground is female, with several torn rips in the uniform that seem to be leaking a dark vicious fluid, fluid you recognize as blood. The man stands fully up and zips up his fly before looking at you, his face decorated with blood. He starts to stumble towards you, and you clearly see a powered-crowbar, drenched in blood. The female officer moans painfully, yet softly enough that the man doesn’t seem to hear her, for his attention I on you.

“She…. She made me do it….. she would not give me what I wanted, she made me…… take it…… punish her….. like YOU WILL BE!!!”

At that moment, a civilian scientist (mrmao) enters the room from the other entrance, the entrance which apparently sends the man into a frenzy, for he activates the plasma torch of his powered-crowbar, sending a 10cm plasma beam from the end of the torch, and he leaps unnaturally fast towards the civilian scientist.
    • Role: UAC Marine – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm, M463 standard pulse assault rifle
    • Equipment:
  • Mrmao – After composing the message, you run out into the hallway, realizing shortly afterwards you should have just sounded a general alarm. In any case, you enter another room, and see that you were not the only one to hear the screams. A UAC Marine (Fluffie) is already in the room, along with two technicians. One of them is standing holding a powered-crowbar, the other on the ground bleeding and bruised. Apparently you also suffer from bad timing, for the man activates his powered-crowbar plasma torch, capable of burning through most metals like butter, and leaps towards you, swinging the plasma torch end towards your chest.
    • Role: Civilian Scientist – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Lab Overcoat - Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: None
    • Equipment: PDA
  • Dunin Hemm – Aiming with your sidearm, it is more luck than skill that your first few shots manage to punch through the weak point on Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1, sending Kilon’s right arm falling limp. Hiding under your desk, you then hear the noise you have been waiting for, the clicky click of an empty clip. Taking advantage of the opportunity, you throw yourself around the desk and into Kilon, aiming to restrain him from reaching his own sidearm. Instead of going for it, Kilon violently head-buts you, and your unprotected forehead takes the brunt of it, sending stars swirling. Falling onto your back, Kilon reaches for his sidearm and clears it out of his holster by the time you stand up. Instead of aiming at you, he then swings to towards his helmeted head, and fires. The side of the armor explodes and he falls limp to the ground, a trickle of blood coming from the wound. Looking around, you see one of the prisoners clutching an arm wound, the rest having avoided injury. In addition, your desk starts beeping at you, indicating someone has sent a message to your station with an emergency.
    • Role: UAC Marine – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Shipboard Marine Armor Mk. 1 – Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm – Partially-Assembled M463 Pulse Assault Rifle
    • Equipment: PDA, Weapon Cleaning Kit
  • Ph8 – Barely averting the overload, you take a moment to relax, watching the code scroll past you. Asking the Marine outside for a cup of coffee, you realize that there is no guard in this area. As you stand up to get yourself a cup from the mess, something catches your eye. A flicker across the screen, some code changing slightly, then everything was back to normal. Before you can check it further, your intercom goes off.

“Computer control, we got a problem. We lost communications contact with one of our Viper’s, we want to make sure it is not on our end here with the computer systems acting funny.”
    • Role: Ship Technician – AI Computer Core – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Standard Duty Uniform
    • Weapons: None
    • Equipment: PDA, Computer Repair Kit, Multitool
  • Gokan – As the systems come back online, you sigh with relief. Checking the board, you see the indicator lights that show you have sole control over the fighters. Straightening out of the role, you kick the afterburners and aim towards the Athena You check over the rest of your systems, then swear. According to the readouts, your communications array got shorted by some kind of overload. You then hear the banging behind you cease, and your co-pilot starts hissing.

”….he he he…. Flying through eternal blackness ….. he he he….. you pitiful creatures….. you should have stayed home…..”

Locking in the autopilot, you check over the course and see that you will reach Athena shortly. You then realize that your original estimate was to long, for that was the time traveled thus far. You then turn to face your co-pilot, and are shocked. The polarized visor is up, letting you see his face. His skin has turned a dark grey color, and his eyes are completely bloodshot. In addition, he seems to be crying blood. With a snarl that you hear through the intercom, he reaches out towards you, tearing off his restraint belts.
    • Role: UAC Viper Pilot – Attached to Athena Project
    • Health: 100%
    • Armor: Fighter Pilot Armor
    • Weapons: M231 standard issue army sidearm
    • Equipment: PDA, Survival Gear
  • Inspectre – After cursing out the suited man, you fall back into the bed, exhausted. Meanwhile, Mr. Smith looks down at you, nods and turns to the man in the UAC officer, says something you can’t make out and walks out of our vision. The Ship Commander looks down at you.

    “You will be fine Arlan.”

Then he too walks away only to be replaced by a nurse.

“Now honey, this won’t hurt a bit.”

    Blackness.

    * * *

Waking up again, this time consciousness comes much more quickly. Leaning up, you see that you are not confined by as much medical equipment, except for an IV tube and a few monitors. Looking around, your eyes apparently are working normally again. You are still in a medical ward, however this time in overnight beds. A few nurses are walking about, with a man in a Doctor’s uniform holding a chart, making some notes. Seeing you are awake, he nods and smiles.

“Welcome back to the land of the living. Sorry about the rude awakening early, but Mr. Smith insisted on being a pompous jack-ass and ordered it as soon as you were stable. I’m Doctor Marvin, and you are a lucky man. Multiple serious lacerations, bones broken, 3rd degree burns, organ damage, neurological shock, you certainly were through a lot. Thankfully you seem to be well on the road to making a full recovery. Now, just rest up, Mr. Smith mentioned he wanted to know the moment when you all were awake again.”

As Dr. Marvin walks away, you let your eyes roam, when suddenly a screaming noise is heard, and two Marines enter the ward, holding between them a man dressed in what appeared to be some kind of uniform. That man was twisting around, trying to bite at the guards, and then he turns to face you and you see his eyes, crying blood. Seeing you, he snarls, and with superhuman strength, tears free of the Marines, and launches himself at you.

With modern medicine, induced sleep is dreamless and restful. Yet you awaken screaming, the memories of Mars creeping into your mind. Looking around, you see that you are in a new bed, with only an IV and some sensors attached to you. You also notice that you are in a overnight ward, with the rest of the people from Mars laying down in other beds. You see a man in a Doctor’s coat standing next to Arlan’s bed, talking to him before walking away. At that moment, two Marines enter the ward, holding between them a man dressed in what appeared to be some kind of uniform. That man was twisting around, trying to bite at the guards, and then he turns to face Arlan, his face, twists into pure rage, and with super-human strength tears free of the guards and leaps at Arlan.

You awaken painfully, and the world spin. Laying back, you are unaware of your surroundings.

    • Health: Drugged up heavily, coming out of a 2-week coma
    • Armor: Hospital Gown

  • Richard – Looking down at you, Mr. Smith nods, and though you could only guess, apparently sighs to himself before leaving. The UAC commander takes a moment to nod at you before exiting as well, leaving you alone. You then feel the somewhat familiar sensation of sedatives entering your system.

    * * *

Awakening, lean up in what apparently is a new bed. Looking down at yourself, you are able to take a better look at your new arm. The shiny metal take covers almost of your shoulder, and as you move it about, it makes faint noises. In addition, you notice that there is an IV running into it, a power cord, and a linkup cable. Standing next to you is a man wearing a Doctor lab-coat over a uniform.

“Welcome back to the land of the living. I’m Dr. Marvin and you are lucky. Burns, broken burns, neurological shock, and sadly enough, your arm there, at least we were able to treat most of those there. I’m sorry, but medical technology can only do so much, even today. At least you seem to be adapting quickly to the arm. You noticed that it is plugged into the ships power supply, don’t worry, it feeds off of what you eat like your biological arm. In addition it provides an easy access point for IV’s and the like. Oh yeah, now that you are conscious, I have disabled the inhibitors, so be careful. It is significantly stronger than you would expect. I’ll be back later to check on you.”

As he walks away, you follow him as he stops at Arlan’s bed and starts talking. You then examine your arm. Completely covered in dark steel that is shined to the point where it reflected all light, you start moving it around, testing it out when two Marines enter the ward, holding between them a man dressed in what appeared to be some kind of uniform. That man was twisting around, trying to bite at the guards, and then he turns to face you and you see his eyes, crying blood. He then turns to Arlan, and snarls and with superhuman strength, breaks free of the guards, and leaps at Arlan’s bed.

The bullet roatated again *CLICK* as he fired the thrid and final shot. Trisk continued steping back and if he had a comm he grabbed it and switched it on with his left hand as the handgun remained aimed at his skull.

Re: Doom 2

Maddox stumbles backwards and even though he tries to stop his fall by grabbing onto the edge of the desk, he none the less ends up on his back, slightly disoriented. Acting on instinct, his body forces itself up just in time to see the marine aim his sidearm at his head. With a loud *bang* the marine crumples into a heap on the floor. Maddox keeps his own pistol aimed at the man for a few moments, his every nerve on edge as he waits for signs of resurging conciousness. When none appears, he is forced to make some quick decisions: The marine is bleeding to death and in one of the cells a prisoner has been wounded and also in need of medical care.

Maddox is about to call the medic bay for assistance when his desk suddenly sounds its alarm for an emergency call. Stepping over to it, Maddox presses the screen button, saying: "Yeah? What is it?"

Re: Doom 2

Eureka!

Scott pulled a cup out from under a pile of unwashed crockery. Sniffing the insides cautiously he proceeds to wipe the inside with his shirt and give it a cursory rinse under the tap on the far side of the room (away from important computer equipment) while he listens out for the guard coming back with that nectar we call coffee.

Sh'ia repeated the message forwarded from the bridge about a viper with a communications blackout. A quick analysis showed that it had closed down its own communications systems according to the logs, very odd but not for him to worry about! Scott forwarded his findings to the bridge.

*CLICK* - were his eyes playing tricks on him? This is the fourth or fifth time he thought he'd saw the code distort for a second, new subroutines seemingly appearing then disappearing again. Rubbing his eyes he settled down to wait for his coffee, maybe that would help him think more clearly. After five minutes he was fast asleep...

When Scott awoke it was to the sound of the door opening and the guard entering with one of the ships galley staff carrying a steaming pot of coffee and a slab of cake.
Ralph, you're a legend thought Scott as he held out his cup expectantly. What came next took them both by surprise. The galley-man, instead of pouring the coffee in the 'traditional' way poured the kettle of steaming liquid over his head screaming that he was 'FREE, FREE!' while doing so. After ten seconds of stunned chaos the man was a jibbering wreck on the floor, face blistering and hands shaking uncontrollably.

Leaping into action Ralph jumped down to the man and remove the kettle from his badly burnt hands, checking to make sure he was unarmed - he'd heard of some crazy things going on around the ship but this was the first he'd witnessed himself, he threw the man over his shoulders and ran off towards sick bay. Scott depressed the intercom and informed sick bay of the incoming arrival. On a hunch he gave a command to Sh'ia before getting back to his code, coffee-less no less, while the automated bots cleared up the mess on the floor.

Sh'ia, lock down the control core. I don't want anyone coming in here without my permission, clear?
Perfectly Scott, would you like to see me dance?
Maybe later.

The hours passed by and Scott became more and more impatient, he simply couldn't find the cause of these glitches. As he searched he became annoyed by a tick that was developing on the right side of his face, this is what happens without coffee, getting angrier by the minute he pounded away at the keyboard until he could no more...

Dylan screamed (not girly) as he saw the mad techie swinging a lit plasma torch at him. Almost instinctively Dylan dropped to the floor. He knew he needed to do something, so before the man could bring his swing down Dylan did a summersault forward and to the left. From the summersault he got to his feet and took off in the direction of the woman on the floor. The marine seemed a little shocked, Dylan shouted, “Don’t just let him cut us up shot him or something.”

Re: Doom 2

Ryu's eyes widen as the creature that was his copilot tears effortlessly through restraints designed to handle the extremely high forces that pilots sometimes experience during deceleration. His movements still restrained somewhat by his own restraint belts Ryu barely manages to dodge the initial clumsy lunge.

"WHAT THE F***ING HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!?" he screams, clearly panicking. The creature lunges forward again, but thankfully the copilot console and Ryu's own chair is in the way. A small collision alert light starts flashing, Ryu looks at it blankly for a moment, then realises what it means. Crap, only a few minutes until I crash into the Athena.

He quickly unholsters his pistol. He's not especially happy about firing it inside the cockpit of his fighter.

"I don't want to do this." he says, slowly and calmly. His reply is another slavering lunge. Ryu fires, the hollowpoint round thuds dully into the things chest, throwing it back into it's chair. Still it's cloudy eyes are locked on Ryu, and it moves to resume its attacks. Ryu darts forward and hammers the protective glass on the copilot eject. It shatters harmlessly and his grabs the pull-handle and pulls. Strength heightened by adrenaline the handle breaks off in his hand, but it does it's job. There's the sudden hiss of decompression as the copilot canopy is launched off into space. Unrestrained, the creature is sucked through the hole, swiftly followed by the copilot seat and tattered restraints. His faceplate automatically seals itself against the vacuum as he half-crouches in the foot-well, looking somewhat dazed. Another collision alert light starts flashing, followed a moment later by an audible alarm in his helmet.

He get's back into his seat, hurriedly straps in and disengages the autopilot...

Re: Doom 2

Nothing. No snarl of disapproval, no angry threats, nothing. Just a short nod, followed by saying something to the UAC officer - no doubt a calm denial of everything Arlan said. It seemed likely that the officer now thought he was completely off his rocker, but Arlan didn't care. This Agent Smith undoubtedly knew what Arlan was talking about, and now he knew that the battlelines had been drawn. And if he refused, then Arlan would somehow escape from here, get back to Earth, and rescue his sister by himself. He was done being the UAC's whipping boy . . . whatever had happened back on Mars, even though Arlan couldn't remember the specifics, that had changed everything.

With his mind now made up, Arlan settled back into the bed as the pair of UAC officials walked off. It felt good to have a plan for once, instead of simply stumbling around in the dark. He barely even felt the wave of pain that washed over him as the nurse did whatever it was that "wasn't going to hurt a bit".

**************

Arlan came to some time later, and find himself in the overnight part of the medical ward. Looking around, he could see several other people in beds nearby, some of which looked very familiar . . .

The on-duty doctor came to stand by his bedside at that moment, forcing him to break off his attempts to decipher who these other people were, and how he knew them. Seeing that he was awake, the doctor nodded and smiled: this time a friendly one, as opposed to the tight, fake smile that Agent Smith had given him. The doctor then explained why the UAC Agent had paid a surprisingly ill-advised visit to him and the others so soon, along with a catelog of the injuries he had sustained. Some of the doctor's confidence that Arlan would make a full recovery washed over him, and Arlan felt himself smile for the first time in a long while.

His news delivered, the doctor left, allowing Arlan to settle back in his bed once more and hopefully get some nice, restful sleep. It was, sadly, not to be, as a minute later Arlan heard an animal-like scream rip through the confines of the overnight ward, causing him to jolt awake and turn to the source of the disturbance. He was just in time to watch the insane man rip away from the grip of the two marines, and start charging towards him. Blood was slowly trickling down his face from his eyes: the man was crying blood.

This too, seemed hideously familiar to Arlan, and with despair settling into his stomach once more, he thought back to the images he had recalled earlier that day: he desperately piloting a shuttle to a landing, while simatenously fighting off a walking dead person, its body partially disintigrating with every blow Arlan landed.

Although he was still weak, adrenaline has a habit of temporarily granting great strength, and having a stark-raving mad lunatic charging towards you while crying blood generates a lot of adrenaline. With a grunt, Arlan throws the cover to his bed back, and rolls off of it onto the floor. He is just in time, as the lunatic has now reached the bed and leaps forward into the air, solidly landing onto the bed instead of Arlan's chest. Arlan wasn't out of danger yet, however, as the raving lunatic then leaned down from the bed, clawing at him with his hands. Gasping, Arlan rolled a little bit further away from the bed, then was pulled to a stop by the IV still stuck into his arm. Grunting with effort, Arlan reached out and grasped the stand that the IV was connected to, and then hefted it, picking it up a few inches off of the ground and swinging it down, slamming the end down into the lunatic's right shoulder.

Re: Doom 2

The marine pats his shoulder, and then his body relaxes. So much for the drugs, but a pat on the shoulder from a caring individual... And blackness followed. His awakening was less... relaxed Much of what was seen during the brief seconds, whilst open to debate, was horrifying. Men, blood readily flowing from their bodies, faces, babies with wings... things from fantasy. Yet clearly... Clearly he sees it. Burned to his mind.

Then a scream pulled him back to reality. Not his own, this time. More bestial.
A different room
A darker place.
A shiver of fear runs down Graves spine, carrying into his limbs and causing him to shudder in bed.
His body feels equally drugged to earlier, but this time, this time he will do more than just cry. Trying to flex his fingers, he finds it so much easier...
And another scream...
...Grave sits up. God how it hurts his chest to do it, but he does it regardless. Visions of his Marine Drill instructor yelling at him, screaming at him to get up in the boxing tornament. Only by sheer force of will...

...His eyes blur back to the room at hand. Two marines that just entered are thrown apart by the force of the man between them. He howls with rage.
A moment of indecision cowers in Grave.
With a rough, dragged-across-gravel voice, he rolls his body to the left and onto the floor:
"Christ sake. Shoot the damned thing."
Staggering to his knees, he begins to pull himself across the room. The adrenaline in his body begins to make this task easier, but understandably, pain overtakes it near enough instantly...
...Until he sees the face of the man under attack.
"Arlan. I remember you..."
Images flash in front of his eyes, and he surges to his feet. Staggering across the gap between him and the nearest marine, he shouts, again rather roughly:
"God sake men! Don't stand there"
Grabbing the nearest marines shoulder for stability, he tries to take his pistol and aim it at the... thing...

Re: Doom 2

Fluffie had been on the edge of shouting at the scientist, telling him to back the **** away. The civilian though, who obviously had been ****ed up enough to respond and hurry to these kind of horrifying yells and screams, without even thinking that with all the shit hitting the fan on this wretched Athena-ship, exactly that was a bad idea because there might just be no Marine equipped with amongst other things with a fully automatic assault pulse rifle to save his very sorry ****ing ass.

There was no need to yell at him, telling him how lucky his skin was - because without Fluffie about to intervene, the damn fool would've had no chance in Hell. Our hero Marine was fairly sure of this, enraged men with plasma-torches vs. stupid and weak scientists seemed like a very settled fight, even from several miles away. ****ed up people, thinking they could do anything because they were ooohh so smarth and oooohh soo much better educated.

Yeah, he had seen them, in the Mess Hall and where not. ****ing snobs. He'd sometimes would've liked to have a go at them, but hey, it was his job to protect them, so he would. Bringing the butt of his rifle up against his shoulder, his thumb flicked off the safety and set the weapon to semi-automatic. With a grin, he started aiming for the crazy rapist's legs; and more specifically his knees...

He squeezed the trigger twice, taking a shot at each of the plasma-torch wielding fool's knees, hoping to immobilize him.

“Don’t just let him cut us up shot him or something.”

This, the fact that it was being said at all and the tone that Fluffie certainly didn’t like, pissed him off.

Mother****er...

The punk-ass scientist, dissing him. Trying and ordering him around in an unfriendly and certainly not well-mannered fashion. In a fit of aggression and pissed off-ness, his thumb flicked the switch again, this time setting the firearm from semi-automatic to burst fire. Squeezing his trigger two more times, he filled the back or whatever side of the plasma-torch-fool was facing him with six neat holes, all around the area where his lungs and heart were supposed to be.

Smiling a dark smile as the now enraged and dead man began to fall, Fluffie searched the room for the scientist. His thumb neatly switched the weapon back to semi-automatic, while he aimed for the fool.

Goddamn mother****er.

So smart, oh so smart. That they were, perhaps. But common sense, oh boy and oh yeah, it was certainly something they did lack. Running around trying to be the hero, naturally assuming that a low-life Marine would be around to save their sorry arses. Fine; Fluffie could’ve lived with that. But actually having the guts to then order him around in that lowly tone?

Hell no.

Fluffie squeezed the trigger again, his cheek still against the sweet and lovely alloy of his firearm, one eye closed, the other neatly aiming down the sight – looking straight at the man’s upper right leg... He wouldn’t kill him, but with this whole shitload of an ordeal – he wouldn’t put up with it.
After having fired the shot, our now would-be-but-really-isn’t-man-slaying Marine walks over to the female, throwing one last nasty look at the scientist, a look that more than obviously says ”Whine, tell anyone... and ye’re ****in’ dead mother****er.”. Flicking the safety back on and slinging the rifle over his shoulder, he kneels down, trying to identify her wounds and comfort her as best as he can...

Dylan felt hot searing pain in his upper right leg. As he went dwon he knew there was only one person who could have done it. He truned to face the marine and was about to say something when he saw the cold look. He decided to change it to a complement, "Good shot." he said in a far more pleasent tone.

The Marine went to the woman on the floor and started to take care of her. It was then that dDylan noticed he was lbeading from the hole in his upper right leg. The wound didn't seem serious, but it would probably be best to have it looked at. He jurry-rigged a bandage out of a strip torn from his labcoat, it wasn't the best bandage ever but it would get him to the medibay. Dylan tried to stand up he couldn't put his entire weight on the leg but he could limp. To the medbay, it would probably be a good idea to wait for the marine to move the women before setting out.

Richard almost smiles to himself as the shadow of Mr Smith moves on, he seemed a little too accepting, almost as though he was expecting the worst and was almost satisfied to get it. Still, he’s gone now, which is for the best; Richard certainly doesn’t feel up to much in the way of a debriefing right now. The only man that he actively wants to see is the guy with his paycheque - on duty for almost a week of solid overtime, hazard pay; ought to be a large cheque - unless they dock the cost of damage to the station from his wages; yeah, probably a bad idea to bring that up with anyone actually.

His mind rambles contentedly across the plentiful field of topics that do not concern the pain wafting through every part of his body, or the fact that his arm is made of metal. In fact he manages to ignore his current situation with a singleness of purpose that would be admirable under most other circumstances. With a faint feeling of floating and a dull hiss from somewhere above him his eyes lose focus, letting the light over the bed seep into every part of the room. Then, slowly, it grows dark. It seems safer somehow.

Before long - he thinks: time doesn’t seem to mean much under anaesthetic – his eyes open again and immediately focus on the ceiling above him; it looks wrong somehow and it takes a few seconds for him to wake up enough to realise that the light is gone.

“Well,” he mutters to himself, “you’re not going to find out anything more from down here. Get up.”

As is so often the case; easier said than done.

Gradually he manages to get sat up, mostly propped on his right arm since his left doesn’t really seem to be responding to anything yet. He looks down at his left arm and tries to move it, nothing much happens, it just lies there numbly. A few seconds after sitting up it starts tingling and before long the entire arm is encased in what Richard would swear is the worst case of pins and needles you can get outside of an upholstery supplier.

As the shooting, darting sensations begin to die down Richard laughs quietly to himself; here he is, wires and tubes and God knows what else running into him, and he’s worried about a dead arm. Shaking his head and chuckling he leans forward, pulling his right arm around to look at it properly. The metal gleams, polished to the point that he can’t quite be certain what colour it is behind the reflections. A part of him smiles at the dark mirror while another three parts of him line up to point out that: a) he looks terrible, b) bright shiny objects are not good if you’re trying to hide from say a horde of zombies, and c) while very nice - that is not his arm.

Busy looking at the wires running from it into a machine by the side of his bed Richard barely notices the figure approaching until it starts talking.

“Welcome back to the land of the living.” The man starts; Richard looks up at him startled, is that some kind of sick joke? But no, the eyes looking down at him seem about as close to compassionate he has seen since leaving earth. He almost tunes out as the list of injuries sweeps past him, he knows how he got most of them, and they are definitely not experiences he wants to relive. Once the doctor - what did he say his name was? Marvin or something like that wasn’t it – got onto his arm though, Richard started listening again; since it doesn’t look like it’s going away he might as well learn exactly what it is. While most of the information seems pretty easy to deal with; the arm’s biological power requiring an absence of action rather than anything else; the casual statement that he has to be careful of his own strength makes him look down at the arm again, stronger than he might think.

A minute or so later he is still moving around, trying to get an approximate feel for how much freedom of movement it actually has; and the answer seems to be ‘more than expected’. Something snarls. The wrist joint seems to turn a lot more than the one on his left arm, but then that one is still feeling a little sore. Finally something in his head clicks; he frowns and looks up in the direction of the strange noises at the other end of the room and stares back into eyes weeping sanguineous tears.

“What the…” he starts, the rest of his sentence drowned out by a clattering as the man flings himself towards one of the other beds and the man in it dives out of the way. Richard barely has time to start moving when the drip stand wavers and rises slightly and the bed opposite him empties in a cloud of cursing. A half second later Richard joins the other two on the floor – backwards. After a dazed moment of wondering why the room moved Richard realises that he hasn’t quite got his co-ordination in order enough to take on gravity yet so he hasn’t really got a hope against a crazed superhuman.

“God’s sake men!” comes a shout from the other side of his bed, “Don’t stand there!”

“Who’s standing?” Richard replies a lot quieter, still trying to get all his limbs under him. He finally gets to his knees and looks around the edge of the bed to see the drip stand almost embedded in the weeping man’s back and someone who looks rather more familiar, but no less crazed, who seems to be attacking one of the few guards still on their feet. This situation, he realises, is not going to sort itself out. Finding both his legs at the same time, Richard comes to his feet already in a semi stable run, lurches a couple of steps along the medical bay and then dives at the man wrestling with what now seems to be The guard.
