MPA Remix
What can I say? There's a shortage of active threads atm due to many people (myself included) putting in less effort due to imminent forum movage. I decided to knock up a stock thread in short order and came up with (another) MPA thread. Those of you who know the setting can skip to the character bit at the bottom. Those that aren't old enough to remember the last two (three?) incarnations of the thread may want to read the introduction.
The MPA
The Musical Protection Agency was established in the closing days of the 20th century by the leaders of various 'true' music genres. With the explosion of manufactured pop groups threatening to doom the music charts to an eternity of crap music, the Musical Protection Agency, a freelance group of musical mercenaries, was established to even the scores a bit, through explosive means. After a decade of hard-fought war, the pop groups were destroyed and the evil megacorporations that had controlled them broken up. Final victory to the forces of truth and good. The world lived on in happiness, enjoying good music for centuries without a single pop monstrosity blighting the airways.
But the peace was not to last...
Unbeknownst to the now-disbanded MPA, one of the pop record label's executives had buried a vault of pop music data deep in the bowels of the company's skyscraper headquarters. Though the building was demolished, the vault remained unseen. Meanwhile, knowledge of the vault was passed down from one head of the executive's family of descendents to the other. The family bided its time, knowing that they could only strike successfully when Earth was at its weakest...
The time came in the year 2400. The vault was opened and the corporation re-established as a punk rock label. Soon, punk rock turned to pop rock, and pop rock to pop. Legions of enslaved teenagers, unweathered against this influential genre that they had never encountered before, emptied their pockets in favour of the Coporation. Within years, subliminal messages hidden within these ghastly pop records had placed adults, distinguished musicians and world leaders alike under the spell of the Corporation. The world entered a second dark age, never to emerge...
Or did it...
A small band of individuals, decendents of the original MPA agents who bought musical taste to the world with fire and lead, found themselves resistant to the infectious strains of pop. Hounded by the authorities of slaved governments, they fled underground to the secret and long-abandoned headquarters of the old MPA. Finding resources hidden within the base for such an eventuality, they quickly re-established the MPA and prepared for WAR...
The battle lines are drawn. Will the world be plunged into millenia of abysmal pop groups under the control of a psychotic dictator, or will the light of truth and talent prevail once more? You decide...
Characters
As always, you pick a character from one of the following classes. Your class and 'level' will decide what weapons and equipment you have access to, so pick carefully...
Combat Agent
You are the standard stock of the MPA. You can fulfill basic undercover roles, but when the going gets tough you can unleash firepower on the legions of pop groupies that threaten you. You are allowed access to basic equipment of all classes, except that of drivers.
Assault Agent
When subtelty falls short or when a distraction is required, the Combat Agents are called in. Boasting heavy firepower and heavy armour, you are the rough-and-tumble of the MPA. You are allowed access to heavy combat equipment, but only to a smattering of the most basic equipment of the other classes.
Special Agent
Brute force isn't always the best way to go about things, and that's where you come in. With access to specialised non-combat equipment, you are able to perform a number of tasks that firepower alone cannot. That said, you only have access to light weaponry. Staying out of firefights is advisable. The Special Agent section includes hackers, demolitions experts and a few other things.
Undercover Agent
Subtelty is a formidable weapon in the right hands. It is your job to infiltrate the ranks of the groupies and bring them down from the inside. With access to sophisticated disguise equipment as well as some specialised espionage stuff, you're going to be the tip of the spear that is the MPA...
Driver
You are the only kind of agent trained to drive vehicles, and the only one allowed to commandeer them from MPA vehicle pools. You're also allowed access to some basic disguise equipment and a few personal weapons, so you don't just have to sit it out in the car while the others have fun.
Weaponry and Equipment Lists
Will be produced if this thread gets enough interest.

driver flapjack, for all your quick getaway needs, oh and for your quick assault, heavy assault and other vehicle needs
*flapjack goes to the check the vehicle pool and finds that only old-timers, coming from the last time the MPA was active remain in there*
hmm, we needs something that won't make us fall out of the tone in our vehicle pool, well, when we want to do things in a more stealthy way anyways

Bumping dead threads serves no purpose other than to make you look like a complete dolt. Don't do it.

This had better not be a serious attempted sign-up? Not that there's anything wrong with it technically or anything...

I'm pretty sure this isn't a serious post. But, seeing as I can never be 100% sure without asking, is this an attempted proper sign-up?

It's serious in a jokey kind of way. If you'd seen the previous incarnations you'd probably get the jokey bit.
Io
The point is that this thread is dead and thus there is no point in joining it.
For that matter most of the threads on this forum are dead...
EDIT: So get out of the thread, y'hear? Fluffie and I need it for spam.
