Big Brother
I realize the controversy of saying this, but I love it and will be watching, will anyone else be? There must be someone else out there who likes it?

Re: Big Brother
Boycotting it completely, like every other series. I have nothing but contempt for the people who go on it for fame and then are on a reality show full of 'celebrities' who are famous for being contestants on other 'reality' tv shows.

I'm not a chav I usually think "pah, this is crap" at the beginning, but about half way through I end up watching it, so I'm deciding to embrace it from the start this time.

Re: Big Brother
really? I thought chavs these days are embracing the fact that they're chavs and loving it? Otherwise why would they still do everything they do? Can't they see that the rest of society is taking the p*** out of them when we talk about them?

It's awful, its appalling, i watch it, but im not a fan.
It leads to a pathetic array of psuedo celebrities, brings out the worst in the papers and the public. It needlessly divides people into rival camps, celebrating when the one they support survives or wins, moaning and proclaiming foul play when they get the boot. The bookies go stupid about it and start offering insane odds on ridiculous outcomes. The entire nation gets gripped by something they have absolutely nothing to do with, and the only real winners are the sponsors and big companies behind the whole thing.
Basically, with the football season over, its a perfect subsitute.

Re: Big Brother
I watched the first two series from beginning to end, liked them both. Series 3 was ridiculously shit after that Tickle guy left so I stopped watching it. Series 4 was good but I stopped watching it after a couple of weeks, I think I'd just seen it all before and even though the contestants were entertaining I just couldn't bring myself to sit through it all for a 4th time.
This series I'm going to watch from the beginning, I doubt whether I'll keep it up for long though.

This year it seems they've tried to collect a bunch of people who love themselves and think they're god's gift to wimmins/mins.

Hopefully he'll be the 13th. Actually I hope they all get treated like shit. It'd be great if they did have another house and these dregs weren't watched at all. By anyone. And just forgot about.

This thread nicely illustrates how shit the British public is, with it's typical 'I think it's a pile of shite but I'll watch/read it in it's entirety and then tell you about it in great detail' hypocritical bullshit.

Re: Big Brother
I cant help but have a soft spot for BB simply through assocaiation with my fav PA moment. Before I started downloading my tv id sit waiting for the tick with my tv one in the background, now on the night in r2 when WaC launched their big attack on an F-Crew planet there were 3 shows that were on in the background. These being BB, the us sitcom Brothers Keeper and ITV's thewebreview. As poor as they all are/were I just cant hate them due to that night showing exactly what a net community can be like when it isnt forced to socialise pretty much with pre chose groupd like the more professional approach has killed off.

Personally I think it's shitty entertainment. It's also an old and outdated concept now, which leads me on to the question: "Why does people still find it entertaining?" The only change is the people. A new bunch of people to fight and f*ck eachother on the TV.
It's like "Idol": First season were good and quite fun, but after that it went straight down.

Re: Big Brother
It'd actually make for a great show though. You tell them something horrible (something more believable than "now you die!") is going to happen if you're eliminated, that they can't contact anyone outside the house due to the fine print on the contract they signed and see what depths of depravity they stoop to in order to win. It'd be far more interesting than this load of drivel anyways.

You said it was interesting for the same reason as socialising is interesting. The interesting part of socialising, for me, is the interaction between you and other people.
Thus, you did say that you interact with the contestants, from my point of view.

Not necessarily. When you in a group of 3 or more people, it's highly unlikely it is just you talking solely, while they listen and talk back.
A lot of it is observation. Picking up on how sensitive people are, what their jokes are, how best to get along with them. We all do it subconsciously.
When I arrived at the GD Meet for instance, I spent the first 5-10 minutes very quietly (yahwe actually told Stew to talk to me because it looked like I was being left out). I was just sitting there trying to find my place in the group, quietly watching everyone and listening to the conversations. I didn't even realise I was doing it until Stew felt obligated to talk to me :P I wasn't about to just jump in like a bull, trying to crack jokes and talk about myself.
So observation and analysis are as much a part of social interaction as conversation/discussion between yourself and others.

Re: Big Brother
Wow, the housemates this year are terrible - each time I thought the next housemate couldn't be any worse, but I was proved wrong. The exceptions are Derek and Science, who I think are gonna be quite funny. I absolutely f***ing hate Kemal though, just as I hated Marco, and I hate that hairdresser guy. But it's gonna make for good viewing. I also quite like Roberto.

Re: Big Brother
I don't think i really liked any of them, except possibly roberto, who at least had the humility when saying how good looking he was (about 8 of them did) to say that it was pure luck. The others seemed to think they were inherently superior just because they were pretty. I also quite like science.
however, they did all look quite interesting, and that's all that matters really.
