Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3209640.stm
Why do these people do this? Don't they understand that they look like insane twats, and whatever political issue they wished to raise will be drowned out?
When Aneurin Bevan was trying to get the NHS started, he didn't put on a clown costume, cover himself in red paint, and team up with twenty five like-minded individuals, and roll about on the floor to illustrate the issue of sub-standard levels of health care.
When Churchill said "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.", he didn't don khaki, grab a rifle and climb onto the roof of Parliament, with a banner with "SAVE OURE ISLAND LIFE" written on it to illustrate his point.

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
if Tony Blair was wandering round london trying to promote PPP by wearing a thomas the tank engine suit, I might agree with you. however since this guy is of no real importance, and is just doing this for the media stunt, I don't really see how the comparison to churchill and co holds....

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
The point is, if you have a political issue to raise, you don't do it in the most twatish and absurd way possible.
'Decorum' is the key.

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
And making yourself out to be something approaching a dangerous lunatic furthers your point, how, exactly?
Besides, there are plenty of ways to influence people without media attention, which in of itself does very little to further your cause. You could, strangely enough, form a pressure group, and organise well-ordered marches, etc. This, to me, is much better than going ape and climbing on the roof of a building.

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
And even if you wanted to protest, why do you have to do it in the most maddeningly inane way possible?
I can see this is going to be another 'Me Versus the world' thread.

At least it has got them media coverage. Spiderman would have been more topical though

Who, who, pray tell, is going to read down to the end of the report in order to find out that this man is "a registered child-minder with no criminal record but was not permitted sufficient access to his daughter."
Tell me, please, because I don't believe such a person exists. I especially like the fact that this point was in no way immediately obvious, and that they had to tell reporters. heh.

you are thinking on too high a level. the way to get things done, is not to do intelligent things that appeal to intelligent people, and the people in charge, but to do stupid things that appeal to the stupid masses. you see the people in charge are far more afraid of the stupid masses than any intellectual debate opponent, and so getting the masses to rally to your cause will benefit you far more than doing intellectual things ever would.

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
It doesnt say whether this guy has attempted going thru "the proper channels" but I get the impression (given its something to do with a campaign) that has already been tried and they've taken it to "The next Level" - which in his mind is obviously lowest common denominator - eg getting the media's attention.
Of course if several million people cant make a protest march stop a coalition war what chance does one man in a batsuit gonna have against the law of the land?

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
Amount of sane protests going on at a low level : loads
Amount of stupid protests : one
Amount of protests that get on TV/news, etc : one
Oh.
Anyway, these things are born out of frustration. Basically this is the resort of people who are too angry to just handout flyers but not quite angry/gutsy enough to strap explosives to their chest while running through London screaming "I'll show you dangerous play, you bastard"

I fail to see the relevance. The application of the principle is the same. Absurdly comical acts and serious political points are not, to say the least, a perfect match.

It's served a purpose, even if only to highlight an issue, rather than deal with it.

I was expecting this to be picked up on, as your purpose of this thread is to critique their methods.
These peculiar individuals have incited discussion or some sort here; I have no doubt that there will be discussion and serious analysis of the real issues away from this forum.

would they have gotten a bbc article without this batman and robin gig?
no. People dont care about politics, its sad but its true, you have to be extreme to be interesting to the general public

However, the public and media quickly tire of attention seekers. Most real problems are not amenable to a "quick fix" and people will lose interest long before a solution can be found. All this does is raise the bar for the next "cause" who will have to be even more outrageous to get their 15 minutes in the spotlight.

You would have thought people would have learned a lesson from David "lookatmelookatme" Blaine.
I'm not sure whether this stunt was too stupid, or not stupid enough, but either way it will achieve nothing.

Re: Batman and Robin in quest for Justice.
As I've ALREADY SAID, even if they do get picked up on by the media, nobody gives a tuppeny-shit about what their actual issue is, because it is simply enveloped by the absurdity of their method of gaining attention for it.
