Re: Over-tired!
I cant believe people are still talking after i won this thread.
To recap :
"overtired" for all its stupidity as a word, is a word. As has been mentioned twice now, google it and watch the hits fly.
There is an email from vauxhall there saying "its overtired".
The reason they are saying "overtired" and shaking their heads is because the entire point of the advert is the kids are acting like adults and being patronising. Therefore when they shake theyre heads and say "overtired" they are lamenting the fact that the dad has dropped the china and the mum is snapping at him because theyve had a long day and now they are making stupid mistakes.
"Oh they're tired" simply doesnt make sense in the context of the advert. Imagine it was a baked beans advert and it ended with someone saying "Oh, i'm hungry" in that tone. If it was "Oh, theyre tired" that would suggest that the entire point of the advert is to build up to the fact that they are tired; which isnt the case.
Honestly, people

Re: Over-tired!
I don't know about whatever bizzare world deffeh's living in but I've heard parents use the words "oh they're tired" in a patronising manner towards children.
That said, deffeh is scottish so maybe you need to chuck a reference to haggis and glasgow rangers in there before he would remember it.

"Oh they're tired" is a realisation or answer to a question. All 3 of them are saying it. Why would the fat kids say "oh, theyre tired" to the asian kid?
"Overtired" is an analysis / comment.
Just because its not in the dictionary doesnt mean its not popular language. And also, put "vauxhall overtired" into google - every forum on the internet has had this argument and the overtired crew has won every time.
Also, **** the huns and the uda. Up the haggis!

Re: Over-tired!
They would say 'oh, they're tired' because it's an explanation by the kids of the two parents being grumpy (as a result of being tired, like young kids are prone to do). How are people not seeing this?
It makes much more sense than just saying a random adjective.

Re: Over-tired!
"over tired"
Just because people slur their words together, even in ads, doesn't mean that it is one word.
The PHRASE "over tired" refers to a state of hyper-activity which toddlers are prone to when they stay up to late. They get so tired that they can't clam down. I can't explain it but I have seen it many times. In this excitable state they are difficult to control and are often very cranky. They will run and run and run and suddenly, having exhausted every last scrap of energy, go to sleep in mid-sentence.
The analagous phrase for JBJ would be "over Guninessed."

I don't know about the rest of the direly impoverished university students posting in this thread but I doubt the number of us buying the new vauxhall is that high.

Dear Mr Savage,
Thank you for your recent correspondence dated 17th July 2006 regarding the current Vauxhall Zafira TV advert.
As requested, I can confirm the last line in the advert is 'oh, they're tired'. I

Re: Over-tired!
Why would all three of them say "oh, they're tired"???
The asian lad says "it's been a long day for them"
then all three say "over tired" knowingly.
Advert is here - http://www.visit4info.com/details.cfm?adid=24033
Read their lips. ITS OVER TIRED.
They pause because they're shit child actors all trying to say it at the same time.

Over tired makes no sense, they say 'oh they're tired' and vauxhall themselves have said it's 'oh they're tired' and yet you still believe in 'over tired'?
Have you been spending too much time with travler?

Re: Over-tired!
It blatantly says "Ooh, they're tired".
Are you people who are saying "overtired" being deliberately argumentative?
Seriously.
I think we need a poll. No, not Graham.
(If people believe that email, why don't you ring up the number to get confirmation?)

Yeah ive come to the conclusion that if you cant actually see that its overtired you must be a retard of some sort. Look at the advert, look at their lips, actually listen to it. Even the sound is "oh vur tired". No one pronounces "theyre" "thur"

Re: Over-tired!
Never heard or seen the word 'overtired', and what a prime example of a ****ing noncey expression if I ever heard one.
As for the ad, it's clearly, 'Oh, they're tired.'
It's a realisation when they spill all the shit from the boot, the the kids come together with a blatantly obvious explanation.

How is "oh, they're tired" upper class in any sense? It's not like they spontaneously started discussing the theoretical ramifications of deconstructing deconstructionism.

They would, they just found the child actors were even crapper at saying "deconstructing deconstructionism" in time with each other.
(besides, how would you know what the upper class discuss? to be upper class in ireland you just need more potatoes than everyone else)

This from a man who thinks the upper class are the people walking around in the room above him in school?
