Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
"Fifa has recommended that the Carlos Tevez dispute should go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport" from the BBC website.
Ah well. Sounds like he's definately off my FF team. He's not moving until the January window, kids.

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
They're saying that Tevez may not be registered for the start of the season.
If that is so, will they make an exception for Man Utd, seeing as this is an exceptional circumstance?
And I'm not happy with Robbens father for trying to force him to move to Spain!

I expect (hope) that Tevez will be granted permission due to exceptional circumstances.

i suppose its quite handy really that the transfer window doesn't shut for another 3 weeks then.

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
Which reminds me, Newcastle popped in yet another defender, so the list now includes Geremi, Rozehnal, Enrique, and Capaca. Wonder if they're all going to feature in the starting lineup? I guess, with Geremi on right, Enrique on left, and Capaca and Rozehnal on the center it's possible.

Taylor will start I imagine.
I would say him and Rozehnal as centre backs with Cacapa as cover.

Yeah. Probably so. Don't know why Lyon captain would want to move to Newcastle as backup for the first team.

From the Wikipedia article for David Rozehnal:
Quote:
David Rozenhal has been in good pre season form, holding together Newcastle's defence, being dominant and calm despite playing with Peter Ramage.

I giggled.

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
Apparently Real Madrid are close to signing Robben, Ballack and Drenthe. However, this is according to the Spanish press....
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/90664.html
Quote:
Madrid - Madrid sports newspapers AS and Marca were very confident on Monday about Real Madrid finally signing Arjen Robben, Michael Ballack and Royston Drenthe. According to the digital version of AS, Real president Ramon Calderon is determined to sign all three players "within 48 hours", so they can play in the Spanish Supercup on Sunday against cup winners Sevilla.
AS claims that Chelsea will accept 40 million euros (55.12 million dollars) for Ballack and Robben, though rival daily Marca believes that the Londoners will not settle for less than 45 million euros (62.01 million dollars), and that they will spend this money on buying right-back Daniel Alves from Sevilla.
AS says that the "good news" is that Ballack will accept a reduction of his eight-million euro Chelsea salary to join Real, on a three-year deal, whilst Marca puts a positive interpretation on the fact that neither Ballack nor Robben played for Chelsea in Sunday's Community Shield showpiece against Manchester United.
With regard to Drenthe, both sports papers are confident that Feyenoord will reduced their original 18-million euro asking price for the 20 year-old left-back.
|
Madrid were also after Quaresma according to the papers, but Porto slapped a €40m price tag on his head as soon as they heard that Real Madrid wanted him. Interestingly this contrasts with the price they told Athletico Madrid (before the latter signed Reyes), which was €22m.
As an Arsenal fan, I've become pretty certain that we need to sign someone for the wing, and Drenthe & Quaresma have been have been my two favourites. Madrid, however, are financially stronger and a major competitor for anyone we seem to go after - just look at the number of ins and outs at the Bernabau this season.

Sunderland break a good record to break for once, and ensure that Tore Andre Flo is no longer our record signing.

Nice.

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
A two-year loan, wtf? Will that limit his ability to play for Man Utd (i.e. in the Champions League)?

Evidently, it's a two-year-loan with 5m£ a season fee with an option to buy out for 30m£. One of the reasons Tevez wanted to Manchester united is Champions League football, so I think he'll be playing there.
Good, now I don't have to wipe him off my fantasy football team.

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
I thought loaned players were restricted in some form or another? Didn't they used to be inelligable for Europe?

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
Only if their club plays in the Champions League already, I think.
Anyway, from what I understand, MSI paid West Ham £2m to relinquish their interest in Carlos Tevez, so it's no longer an issue anyway.

He might make the bench, I would be shocked if he started though given he's had no pre-season at all and only a week or so of training.

Yeah. No overlapping european competitions, able to set clauses to prevent from playing in domestic cups, and against parent club.
But those are all neglible, as there's no parent club, right?

Re: [Football] Summer Transfers
Just a post to moan a bit.
Drogba wants to leave. Fantastic. This is hardly surprised, seeing as it was only Mourinho who was keeping him there. It was rather silly of him to say such things in an interview in the middle of the season as there is no chance he is gonig to leave in Januray. He's cup-tied in the Champions League anyway.
But my main concern is who is going to replace him? He is a top class striker and whilst Chelsea can theoretically afford to buy any player who is going to want to come and work under a Jabba The Hutt stunt double who hasn't achieved anything outside of Israel?
