[Football] Different CL tonight
So Arsenal win 1-0 and Liverpool lose 1-0. That's different.
Arsenal played brilliantly today all I need to say. U23 defence kept Real Madrid for most of it, despite several errors, kept them at bay completely for the first quarter of the match - Lehmann must have been bored.
Haven't seen the full Liverpool match so perhaps someone could do a lil report on that.

Casillas was godlike in the Madrid goal. At least two world class saves to keep the scoreline respectible.

If Casillas was godlike in that match, Lehmann was God himself.

Re: [Football] Different CL tonight
Arsenal were for more clinical than Madrid throughout. Lehmann played well and made the few saves that were asked of him, but Madrid just looked blunt for the large part.
I wish Reyes would quit rolling on the floor though.

He was authoritative, but he didn't really have a save to make. He was a big part of a team effort, Casillas was a one man rearguard.

The Real Madrid rightback should have been sent off a few times. I despise that kind of player.

Lehmann made numerous saves from long shots and free kicks, punches and catches, not to mention his two one-on-ones with Beckham. Whereas Casillas belly flopped over Henry's goal, and made one save from Pires at a really tight angle.

Re: [Football] Different CL tonight
Cincincho or whats his name was a total disgrace. On the other hand, Lehman was indeed God tonight, he was just brilliant. Flamini did very well on the left back, considering he is a central midfielder by trade.

And made an utterly superb one handed save after being sent the wrong way in the first half. And rushing out extremely well in the second half to deny a couple of obvious chances. And other fine saves in both halves. He wasn't at fault for Henry's goal, it was a perfectly placed shot across the keeper and, whilst it's not implausable that it could be saved, you wouldn't expect it to be done.
Lehmann was competent and reliable, which is exactly what was required for what Real Madrid were testing him with. He had good control of his area, but he was not called into action to make a save that you wouldn't expect him to make 9 times out of 10.
That he didn't make a mistake throught the match is commendable, but not reason to call him inspired.

Re: [Football] Different CL tonight
Still, I would commend Lehmann for keeping the defence well organised enough not to concede a goal or make many defensive errors against an attack of Real Madrid's class.

It was a weak shot.

It was really down to poor finishing rather than the goalkeeper.

That's true, but the whole yellow card incident with Reyes and Casillas was (a) farcical and (b) typical of Arsenal.

That wasn't the only incident he was involved in. Also do Champions League referees not give the red card for stamping/hitting an opponent?
And why is it typical of Arsenal? Or not even Real Madrid?

I was disappointed to see Reyes taken off, I was just waiting for him to make a total fool of Cincincho. I think he managed to make my list of most hated footballers after watching him play once.
Very good result for Arsenal, I don't see how the booking was typical of Arsenal, in fact I though Marid were behaving like children.

Re: [Football] Different CL tonight
Casillas was great
Carlos was average
Woodgate was their best outfield player, and he played 10 minutes.
the 2 spanish centrebacks stank pretty bad.
Cicinho looked as if he belonged more in the championship than the champions league.
Zidane - anonymous
Robinho - tripe, anonymous again
Beckham - below par
Gravesen - did a lot of Real's dirty work and I thought he was harshly subbed.
Guti - did he touch the ball?
Ronaldo - did he move?
No wonder barca dicked them 3-0 at the bernabeu, they looked crap when a good team played them.
Arsenal were pretty competent, had the right gameplan and showed that at least some of their players might start cutting it, soon. Toure was awesome, as were Eboue and Senderos. Fabregas still looks a bit lightweight to be a class act in the prem, while Reyes/Henry/Hleb/Ljungberg were always a threat.
Even so, the match told us more about how far Real have fallen, even if it was a great result for Arsenal.

Re: [Football] Different CL tonight
That doesn't stop the likes of Kevin Nolan or Robbie Savage kicking 10 sacks of shit out of him.

Re: [Football] Different CL tonight
I agree with lokken on Fabregas, while he is an undoubted talent, he might be a bit too lightweight for premiership football, Flamini actually looks more suited to the premiership.
I'm getting seriously fed up with Reyes myself, while I do not doubt his skill or ability, he is either the best diver in the world or one soft sack of shit. I've never known another player to spend 10 minutes of every match on his ass recieving treatment.

I have a feeling he's a lightweight as his stats is pretty weak in every management/football game.
However if he's a diver, we can do a Barcelona the next time we play Chelsea.... *pondering*
