I challenge thee...
To find a better song than
The Chemical Brothers - The Golden Path
It starts, with a beat, a beat so condusive to getting down and funky, yet so simple, it beats at the very heart of the part of your soul that says 'yeah baby, you go get down and lose it like your body suddenly became a clone of a funk God and you can shoe shuffle, swing step and just wave your ****ing arms about like they're on fire and the only source of extinguishment is in the very beat-laden air above you'.
Then, the lyrics, a light-hearted lilt about being dead and not knowing you are, a meeting with the devil, and a plea to God to save him..
All the while, the beat continues, incessant with it's imploring for your very molecules to give up their boring humdrum circulation of the inner core and spin out of control in a wild swirling maelstrom of pure, sheer, unadulterated dance-inducing groove.
Then, the beat increases, the tempo and tone adjust, making you want more, want to know the solution, want to see how far it will take you, whether the temp can continue at the breakneck pace it started with, the pace that made you need to drive quicker, to walk quicker, to do whatever you were doing quicker, just so you can be carried along with the frenetic pace and enduring and utterly unstoppable bass hit.
Chemical Brothers, I salute you, please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you, or not to hear this song for two years.

Re: I challenge thee...
i said on these forums once that the chemical brothers would be one of the contempary bands remebered for generations afterwards. I was mocked by ignorant plebs.

Fatboy Slim - Bird of Prey
Cause when listened too with the right equalization and good enough speakers it will flash you back to the wonderful decade of the early 90's and how the hypnotizing digital piano/instrument (hard to describe) samples remind you of every snes game that involved shooting things you ever played.

Flaming lips + The Chemicals ace.
The chemicals have the beat and the lips have the uplifting lyrics.

Apocalyptica - Drive
or the Prologue of their Reflections album.
Fatboy Slim has a few VERY good songs that put you right in a trance.

Counting Crows - Mr Jones
Great lyrics, Great guitars, kinda uplifting, but depressing at the same time.
It's all good.

The lad has a point.
For me, the best songs are those with the power to send a shiver down your spine. The first three all do that, while Bird of Prey is indeed an underrated classic.
Sunday Morning Call was the only decent song on the Standing on the Shoulders of Giants album (rightly slated), while the other two all have that power about them.
Thinking about it, some of Coldplay's second album also fits those qualities (I'm listening to it right now). The Scientist, perhaps, Clocks (live @ V2003), In My Place?
Maybe add to that REM's Everybody Hurts.

I can't stand bird of prey - that whole album was a right let down for me.

Re: I challenge thee...
Actually, I found Bird of Prey on a compilation album from 2001 - I don't have any Chemical Brothers or Fatboy Slim albums.

What you suggest DM is not so much a challenge as a request to list the first songs that come into your head.

Nonentity, you listed a whole load of songs I'd listen to when I was feeling relaxed or depressed, not uplifting...
