ingame alliance list botfile
Can the team code a new botfile where ppl can download the ingame list?
The list can be secured in such a way that only persons who know the right password can download it.
example: jpaweb01.planetarion.com/botfiles.php?password=T5rYh75Tg65Ygh8UY&alliance=LCH
the list cud contain fields like:
x,y,z,name,rank,jointick
the password must be editable of course, so that it can be changed if ppl suspect its leaked

Re: ingame alliance list botfile
this has been suggested multiple times, and declined due to security reasons.
no idea what those reasons are, but that's probably not important.

Re: ingame alliance list botfile
a passworded download is exactly as secure as a passworded HC account - guess what a hc account can do!
plus, the alliances that will want this file will have their own websites and tools etc, which will be on a static ip. therefore, the file could be locked to one/a few ips. this would make the major security problem someone logging in to the hc's account and giving access to it, rather thant he file itself.
however, it's insecure.

How difficult is it to write a parser, so you can just copy/paste the content on the Members page? Only available for HCs, but should solve the problem.

Re: ingame alliance list botfile
requires the hc to login and copy+paste tho, whereas i assme they were hoping for something that updates every hour

if they really want this then they are going to have to give us a good reason to do it rather than coding something nice for the game, i'd assume the alliances that want this have 24 hour hc cover on the whole so they can parse it every hour

Re: ingame alliance list botfile
OK, If we had what Remy suggested, whereby the password is entered in the URL, I could easily write a simple script to try that URL a kabillion times, trying every combination of up to, say thirty letters (although I could do more etc)
On another note, I'm not sure what use this would bring other than getting their ingame alliance nicks and rank within the alliance that an arbiter cannot do.

Re: ingame alliance list botfile
it would mean you could have an out of pa arbiter that updated when people joined/were kicked.

Re: ingame alliance list botfile
I have to say that MISTU have an ingame thing, with things like "Score Rank in MISTU" "Roid Rank in MISTU" etc. If this is aimed at any of the top 10 or so alliances, it's not like it's impossible to code...
And apart from the join tick you should have the co-ords/ingame nick, and can lookup the ranks from the botfiles.

Not difficult, i did it in 5 minutes ^^. But still it easier to have an autoupdate :-)

But other than the very start of a round where you will get an influx of 30-60 planets, only one or two people usually join at any one time. And the HCs must be online to do this, so IMO scripting the botfile parser and getting it to do what you want it to do is alot harder than logging into your arbiter and manually editing some coords.
