Arwen and Aragorn were put in to make it more like a film which targets all audiences, romantic te-ta-te crap!

I had low expectation to the first movie, even lesser to the 2nd and none at all to the 3rd.

the movies are imo in the top 5 films of the last 10 years (along with fight club and the shawshank redemption, which narrowly beats out pulp fiction).

and the books, while exceedingly poorly written in places, remain the best books of the last century if not ever.
