What a horrendously bad film this is

Indeed. They were working without a book.

For Hollywood, that's pretty much assumed. They can usually manage to parlay a decent book into a mediocre movie; but without a book...

Re: Jurassic Park ///
it took you quite some time to come up with that opinion. anyway, the whole point of the whole series was to watch animated dinosaurs and thats it. noone cared about the story or the acting (well, at least i didnt)
(and no, its wasnt really necessary to make 3 movies about this)

I believe they're working on #IV, so perhaps two steps too far.

Re: Jurassic Park ///
There's two things i hate with regards films:
Series that just don't know when to stop and remaking old films due to seemingly being out of ideas, and generally making them crapper.
Eg. Jurassic Park IV and the remake of War of the Worlds that they're doing.
-edit- ooh, and Spielberg's doing both. That's it decided then, i'm never going to forgive him for A.I.

That's supposedly going to be filmed in the same town that the book and audio was based on... (Horsell, in Woking). My dad lives there, it's the only thing the place is famous for. They actually have a big tripod alien statue in the middle of the town, and a pretend "crashsite" as well.

The Godfather, part III and Day of the Dead spring to mind, although I'm not sure if the latter was planned from the outset.

Re: Jurassic Park ///
Well, the Godfather, part III may be weak compared to it's predecessors, but it's still a pretty damn good movie on it's own.
It depends on whether you mean that a third installment is generally a crap movie an sich, or whether it's a crap continuation of the series as such.

Re: Jurassic Park ///
so ? It's still the third film in the series and it's good... It's also an exception to the rule stated above, because most third films in the serie are bad...

Re: Jurassic Park ///
Return of the Jedi (not as good as the other 2 admittedly, but still a great film)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (not as good as #1, better than #2)
Goldfinger - still the third bond film to be made :P
Die Hard 3 (not as good as #1, better than #2)
Red Dragon (although it's a prequel it's termed as the third in the series)

And this and Goldfinger should probably count as planned because they're based on books.
But then in that sense, Hannibal was planned and that was god awful.
