how to cool down your cpu without an extra fan
i had to buy a new raid-controller, because i also bought a new harddisk and my board didnt support udma-133.
my cpu always had a temprature of a little less than 60°C, but now with that raid-thing its down to less than 50.
so if any of you think about putting in another fan try this first.

that HDD would have run in ATA100 mode aswell with no discernable performance difference.
not sure how adding a raid controller would reduce the CPU temp by 10C

Re: how to cool down your cpu without an extra fan
perhaps the process of opening the case helped to clear away any dust that had settled on heat sinks

I vacuumed my CPU HSF, that knocked 10C off my CPU once. I keep it much cleaner now though

Perhaps the processing load taken by the raid controller makes the processor cooler...
Seems logical...

yes, thats what they wrote in the manual aswell, but 10° seems quite a lot. i was just somewaht surprised by that. maybe it was the onboard raid that is disabled now. but i disabled it before, didnt change anything on the temparture.

Yeah but either way before the onboard raid wasn't being used - the IDE controllers were and in turn are helped out by the processor. Now you have a raid card, all the workload is taken off the processor.
You're right though, 10dc is a suprising amount. I might look at investing in one!

But when your running a game the processor should be running near full speed and should still be getting to the same temperature. It was prob removing dust that did the trick. Raid card is still good though

Re: how to cool down your cpu without an extra fan
no, i cleaned it before, didnt make any difference.
it has to be the controller. the whole thing already was cleaned.
