USA - to fingerprint foreigners
altough many western european nations are excluded from this (for now).... it just goes to show - big brother is becoming a reality much faster than expected.
DALLAS - Foreigners entering U.S. airports and seaports — except those from Western Europe and a handful of other countries — will soon have their fingerprints scanned and their photographs snapped as part of a new program designed to enhance border security.

Re: USA - to fingerprint foreigners
Surely having to have a passport to travel to any country means that big brother is already here?
I don't see the problem, apart from when the information used is obviously passed to other agencies etc

Re: USA - to fingerprint foreigners
Will this fingerprint database then be used for crime cases (ie fingerprints removed from crime scene)?
If so then that sucks a big one.
Mistakes do happen (with fingerprint contrast etc) and it would blow if you got falsely arrested (it would blow anyway having your prints on file).

Re: USA - to fingerprint foreigners
You watch to many movies Dace. They can't stick a fingerprint into a computer and pull out a match. Honestly, the purpose of the finger prints doens't make sense unless they check to the fingerprint on file to make sure the passport hasn't passed hands.
Besides, unless you kill someone the US just deports you.

Re: USA - to fingerprint foreigners
How is this big brother?
If there was big brother in the last century, they would say the same about drivers licences and personal ID's.

Re: USA - to fingerprint foreigners
"We" still do say that about personal ID's (if it's compulsary, obviously people can choose to carry what they wish). Driving liscences can be justified on pragmatic grounds - and besides, you don't have to drive a car (although in the US, you seem to get an odd look if you don't have one, even if you're not actually in a car).

Treating guests like criminals is clearly the way to welcome them to your country. Yay for american hospitality.
