Why the Term Government Job Is Not a Compliment
The District Attorneys Office has recently had renovations done on one of the floors. Everyone had to be moved to another building while the renovations were completed.
At the end of the process carpet was to be layed; furniture moved into offices, doors placed in portals and people move back in.
Well, with extreme foresight the people in charge of this process managed to mangle it rather completely.
The carpet was layed and the doors were replaced in the portals. This was a little out of order. This meant that when they put the furniture in the offices they had a much more difficult time as the doors, even when open, narrowed the doorway by a couple of inches. But the furniture was moved in to all of the offices.
It was at this juncture that it was discovered that the wrong kind of glue had been used on the carpet and that it would not adhere to the floor and the furniture being moved in had in fact caused gathering of the carpet. Just in case the correct glue had been used to begin with, some genius had turned down the heat on the floor to save energy. The problem with this would have been, had the correct glue been used to start with, is that carpet glue requires warmth to cure. Soooooo, even if the correct glue had been used, it would not have worked because it was allowed to get to cold.
Any way, the furniture was removed, back through the narrowed door ways, the carpet was pulled up, the proper glue was applied, the thermostat turned up and the carpet allowed to cure. Then the furniture was once again moved into the offices through the narrowed doorway (trip number three). After all of this was completed it was finally noted that no one had thought to install door stops so all of those trips through the doorways with the heavy furniture had put the door knobs through most of the new walls.
So now, people are moving into their "new" offices which will now have to have holes in the walls patched.
Government has a positive genius, at all levels, for making things entertaining.
Surely some of you out there have some equally idiotic tales to tell of government in your area.
