Pope Bono I ?
Well, it looks like they have chosen one. I hope it's someone that can drag the catholic church into the 20th century.....

We've had the BBC 'vati-cam' on for the past while. The picture is screwed for some reason, but the sound is coming through fine.

No it wasn't. It was me. xtrasyn said immediately after my post that it was totally unlikely and faintly hilarous.
This is excellent news. I don't like his papal name much. Better than something shit and cheesy lke JP III though!
In other news, my internet has just ****ing died. The BBC site has also died. CNN works perfectly. So much for British 'competitiveness' .
And no, I didn't have money on him. They had him at about 16-2 or something at one point.

You mean 8/1?
I think he was 7/1 - about 3rd or 4th favourite.

I'm not sure if I want him to die. I mean I don't think anybody disagrees that Popes are shit, but they'd have to replace him too and then that would be on TV for ****ing ages too.

I wonder how long before he dies. I would have thought they would pick someone a bit younger so they wouldn't have to go through this again too quickly.

New Pope
And the world pauses with one question yet to be resolved:
Will our own mod MM be rewarded for his Unwaivering Faith in the new 'papa'?
[the previously question of whether a right wing, ex nazi, has been murdering popes from the inside and slowly clawing his way to power is now resolved]

Oh, and may I say that there's an easy way of deciding who will win in these kind of elections; see who the BBC appears to be hinting will win, and chose the exact opposite. They must have the worst judgement in these things possible.

Just admit he would have fitted in as a minister in Benito's goverment any day.
Lets just pray this leads to a crises down the road for the catholic church.

Actually, I think he would have fitted in as Mary Tudor's Chief Minister, nevermind old Benito.

The Sun are already calling him a Nazi.
Although being in the Nazi youth post and during WW2 doesn't say much, as most people were. Peer pressure and all. He is, however, quite a hard-liner. And one of the oldest men to ever become pope.
