Court Awards $11Billion damages against Spammers

Spammer Owes ISP $11 Billion, Court Rules
CLINTON, Iowa -- It's said revenge is sweet. And if the owner of an Iowa Internet service company gets his way, revenge will also be very expensive for some spammers.
Robert Kramer III has been awarded more than $11 billion in a federal court judgment in a lawsuit against e-mail spammers.
On Dec. 23, a Southern District of Iowa judge awarded Kramer the huge judgment against spammer James McCalla, of Florida.
Kramer also has received other large awards from companies in New York, Arizona and Florida.
In his lawsuits, Kramer convinced the courts that the companies and McCalla sent millions of spam e-mails that interfered with his business, caused problems with his equipment and hindered service to his customers.
While collecting such a court judgment can be tricky and can take a while, Kramer said he intends to go after the dough.
He said he hopes to "squeeze them for everything they've got."
Kramer and his company, CIS Internet Services, have what is believed to be one of the largest judgments ever made against computer spammers.

They have computers in Iowa now?

Again, the folly of jury set damages rears its ugly head. The chance of this being over even $1m on appeal are so small to be zero. The chance of him receiving ANY money is zero.

I'm not 100% but I think the damages were so high in this case because state law at the time dictated $10 per spam e-mail sent. I'm also not sure this was a jury case.
And yeah, the claimant knew he wouldn't get anything but apparently that wasn't his point.
