GD Hypothetical
Is it worth entering in a relationship with a girl who, though seemingly normal or 'alright' in pretty much every department, has a double-barreled surname?
Unnoticeable imperfection or absolute deal breaker?

I've got a double surname and I don't have a lot of money and neither does my family.

Re: GD Hypothetical
I think one night she will kill you while you are sleeping then get her butler to remove your body.
Avoid her.

Re: GD Hypothetical
Double barreled first names generally means "of the lower class". There is a girl I know who is called Sarah-May for example. Perfectly nice girl, but she cannot speak without sounding like she is auditioning for either Eastenders or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
My ex-girlfriend had a double barrelled surname and was one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. She wasn't particularly posh although the last x thousand generations of her family had been to Oxford. Aside from that, she was fine.
So anyway yeah go for it.

Re: GD Hypothetical
It completely depends on whether it's a "Cavendish-Smith"-type double-barrelled surname (Miss Cavendish marries Mr Smith and is far too stuck-up to allow herself to become Mrs Smith so insists on joining her name to his) or a "Fearnley-Whittingstall"/"Fitzalan-Howard"/"Chetwynd-Talbot"/"Petty-FitzMaurice"-type double barrelled surname (ones which indicate the joining of two important families).
The first type should be avoided like the plague. The second type is obviously fine.
You should also be watchful for unhyphenated double-barrelled surnames - sometimes they're legitimate, and the lack of a hyphen is purely a matter of style ("Gordon Lennox", "de Vere Beauclerk", "Child Villiers", "Brudenell Bruce", "Fane Trefussis"), but quite often it's merely "Duncan Smith"-syndrome ("Lloyd George", "Conan Doyle", "Maxwell Fyfe", etc.), in which someone has made a middle name into part of their surname in order to look more posh.

Re: GD Hypothetical
Hm I guess having a secondary first name like Albert isn't the same as this double barreled first names?
Here's hoping.

Re: GD Hypothetical
proteus has hit the name on the head, just remember though, even if its the shit type of double barreled name, her parents will have chosen it so she might be ok but her parents might be stuck up wankers

No, that's just a middle name.
They mean things like "Billy-Bob" and "Mary-Kate".

Re: GD Hypothetical
'Deakin-Bell', which sounds rather like the first type Proteus mentioned.
Plus I'm fairly sure she's at uni because her daddy is paying for it (unlike the rest of us government supported schmoes)

SilverSmoke---"That-asshole" as in "That asshole SilverSmoke isn't really a first name at all even if it invariably preceeds your name.
