How fast can you get sick?
if someone with pretty bad cold lick you, lets say from chin to your nose, how long does it take for virus to take over your immune system?

Re: How fast can you get sick?
You never show symptons with a cold while your at the peek of your ability to spread the cold. So I imagine your actually sick for some time till the body says 'Wow, where in trouble here. Turn up the heat and ready the antibodies.'

Re: How fast can you get sick?
Surely it depends entirely on how strong your immune system is at the time at dealing with this particular infection plus how "good" this infection is at infecting you.

Re: How fast can you get sick?
Temperatures during illnesses such as the common cold are quite literally caused by the extra energy given off by all those millions of bacteria running round your body, so a temperature is not a sign your body is fighting back; in fact it's pretty much the opposite - a sign that you're not doing very well at fighting the little buggers off.

Re: How fast can you get sick?
Different viruses have different incubation periods, and it varies between person to person of course.
I think colds have about a one week incubation period, though I just pulled that out of the air and you'd probably be better off googling for it.

This sounds like the sort of logic that says a fully-charged battery will feel heavier than a flat one.

Indeed, raising body tempature is your bodies defense because bacteria and virus don't do well in warmmer enviroments.

It was when he referred to the cold (a virus infection) as bacteria that i first became sceptical of his opinion.
That and the fact that viruses just hijack the cells in your body anyway.
The cells dont use more energy / give off more heat they just make more virus copies (instead of the cells replicating*).
* i know that this is not strcitly true as you can get viruses which incorporate themselves into the genome and replicate in various ways which take alot of explaining but for those biology type people who are/were about to argue with me I THOUGHT I'D JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE FOR THE NON BIOLOGY TYPES ON GD

Pretty much correct.
The viruses which normally infect humans don't do well outside normal human temperatures.
Viruses can (eventually) adapt to any temperature really.

so nobody try this experiment yet?
Seen that so far I'm the only one who haven't got sick yet in my family, maybe I should try it.

weird, I thought bacteria and viruses grow in warm enviroments and thats why people most likely get sick in the cold seasons because people spend more time inside the house with heaters on etc

I doubt people will have their houses over 100 degrees farenheit though.

Does that mean if you want to put on weight, that getting a cold will help, as the virus things will grow and there'll be more of them and therefore you'll weigh more?

No, if anything getting a cold would make you lose weight (fractionally).
This is because your energy is going into making viruses and not body cells and the viruses eventually leave you (sneezed out etc) and as such your body is loisng energy (and thus weight) that way.
In the grand scheme of things not enough weight would be lost to be noticeable (viruses weigh very little).

Re: How fast can you get sick?
he could be...
being hot or warm or something probbaly is the key to recovery for most viruses. i get that shitty cold flu thing once or twice a year between around this time and march. it does my ****ing head in, all i can do is sit curled up in dozens of blankets and shiver my arse off, basically sweating out any of those cells or whaever comes out in your sweat, its the easiest way, and the most effective, seen as how sitting on your arse in a normal t shirt will keep you ill a lot longer

This is true, they will eventually adjust via mutations. That is why you get the cold over and over but its never the same cold.
Bacteria is also found in the waters around nuclear reactors, so where there is a will life will find a way. Not forgeting the new super bacteria that flourshes in tempatures that usually kills bacteria, which is what you find in autoclave. (sp) This super bacteria is found around the under water vents of the ocean.
Now as for the house things, its because they create nice warm houses that are closed and it florishes in the duct work. Which is why your suppose to get it vacummed out.

Wheter you are able to run a certain lenght in a certain time or not depends not only on the distance, but also the average speed that you travel at.

Re: How fast can you get sick?
I have a feeling I'm gonna get sick right before Christmas ffs. I don't feel like I'm getting cold (yet), but for the past two days I have pretty bad nausea and I have head aches all the time.
I barly ever get sick, which is odd too, because when I was a kid I used to get sick all the time. Maybe it's time to die already.

Ah yes, "I hope you get fcuking head disease", always a classic standby in case an argument was being lost.

Other staples were:
"Have you been skull f*cked by stupidity?"
alternatively
"Was your mother raped by stupidity?"
Both meaning pretty much the same thing.

Heh, so true.
Although I made a mistake on mine, it should have been "c*nting head disease".
My bad.

I don't get ill very easily. It's probably because my mum comes from the uncivilised north, or something.
I was more ill when I was at school though. Something to do with sciving, no doubt.
