Jeeves doesn't know.
If not, what else do you need to eat?

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
Protein is something you can have as a staple. Make amino acids and peptides and other fancypantsness from protein. It's why vegetarians create such a fuss over pulses and lentils and stuff, as they are plants with protein in.
I survived for a long time on basically bread, meat and orange juice while short of cash at Uni.

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
Do you happen to know exactly what'll be lacking?
[edit] so if you just eat fruit and vegtables you'll be ok with few to no side effects?

this seems useful
I think the point to be made here is that if you had access to all the fruits in the world, you might be able to provide for a staple diet
However, it is most likely that one wont have access to such a wide variety and also fruits contain lesser amounts of certain minerals and vitamins that are more abundant in other sources. Taking too many fruits to supplement this shortfall will provide you with an excess of other minerals... and we all know taking too much of anything is just as bad.

Possibly, but apples and vitamin/mineral pills still leave you unable to make muscles and blood and cells.

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
As well as vitamins and minerals, there are certain essential amino acids and essential fatty acids which the body cannot produce; they must be ingested. I'm not sure a diet of just fruit would provide you with these things, although you'd have to stay on the diet for a long time to notice any effects as you probably have enough stored in your body for a reasonably long time.

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
No calcium in coconuts? Maybe calling it milk just has me confused. Even if it did, coconut milk if drunk regularly has a laxative effect.
And I thought you made vitamin D from sunlight.

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium according to my friend Google.
Though I doubt it containing calcium is responsible for the name 'milk', I think its visual appearance would be the factor

Fruit is almost pure sugar; living on chocolate and vitamin pills would probably have the same effect while also tasting nicer.

fruit causes no harm to the plant as it naturally falls away, tubers and vegetables cause damage or destruction of the plant.
This was the argument i believe.
I regret i did not mention the 'plant baby' point, i was edging towards the door from the moment i was introduced.

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
You can survive on that quite easily. All you've done is eliminate mammals and birds from your diet (plus amphibians and molluscs, but I doubt he's french). Fish can fill your needs that mammals and birds would otherwise do.
Dairy products I suppose, just to keep your calcium in the clear, but the food you have there seems to be alright.

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
I hate vegetetarians..... (no offence to them intended) Its just they all say "well, i hate to know that a cow died to make this beef....." *cries* All I'd ever say is, but a vegetable is alive, the only difference is it cant walk or speak, so i think vegetarians are cruel and evil. They prey on living things that are not only rooted in the ground, but they cant scream or shout or talk to at least say "hey i'm here"
They are bastards... damn vegetarians......

she's not eatin' bacon, not
eatin' sausage,
and she won't eat eggs,
not eatin' chicken
not eatin' turkey, she
won't have a steak,
but i just can't help feelin'
sorry
for this poor little lettuce head
you know, i can't stop cryin' cause i
know this broccoli's dead
vegetarian? i'm not a vegetarian,
vegetarian...she's a
poor little cow, little sheep,
little fish
how can I sleep? when carrots
are bleedin'
plants are screamin' and tomatoes cry,
you say "it's not so bad, they're only
vegetables", that's what you said
maybe i'm a murderer, but i'm hungry
and they're better off dead.
save a plant, eat a cow,
i want beef, i want it now!
i'm gonna eat it cause it's red!
i'm gonna eat it cause it's dead!
maybe i should eat it raw let the
blood run down my jaw
i'd eat people if it was legal,
i'd eat people if it was legal!

Re: Can you survive on fruit alone?
Vegans survive, and healthy, without any form off animal in their food. A lot of vegan cusine is also quite good! I would consider taking supplements, it makes things easier.
Just being a vegetarian is easy, to stay healthy that is. Think less about what is good for you, the only thing is to eat some sort of protein. I like Cashew nuts myself.
Add in fish, and survival is easy, probably easier then with meat. Meat, at least in the quantities most people eat it, is not healthy, at least not the meat from regular shops.
But who can resist a indian spiach and lamb?

If you seriously think every vegetarian/vegan is a treehugger, you should shoot yourself, or research things better before you spread bigotry.

My boss is a veg.
He even refuses to sit on leather chairs.
I don't like him a whole lot.
But that's probably because he's my boss.

Hehe. I made the exactly same point against a vegan once, but I got my ass handed to me. He was too hardcore, thought. He checked everything he bought
Im sure that the point can be used against 80% of the coffe-shop revolutionaries, however!

Knowing the person in question, he does that. And solarium in the winter, althought I'm not sure that helps.
On the other hand, he is the most treehugging person I've ever met.

You could quite easily produce it in bacteria using the animal gene(s). That way you arent killing any animals so i'm sure vegies would be happy.

Do you read what you type? Fish is not meat? If you eat fish, you are not a vegetarian, whether it's on health grounds, moral grounds or whatever.

I know this. In fact, I have great fun at bothering people who call themselfs vegetarians but eat fish or shrimps or whatever.
Find Week's post a little over mine.
"OK. fruit, vegetables plus some fish. Reckon I can survive?"
My post was merely my opinions on that. If I made myself unclear, I apologize for that.
