Hello,

I'm sure there was a thread like this a while back and sorry for starting another one!

Basicly I found out today we need 30 users or more to get a Q and also have 30 users in L's access list.

So as a result i'm asking everyone who uses netgamers and uses mirc. To very kindly do the following.

type> /server -m irc.quakenet.org 6667

Once connected. (option one - registering and hiding your hostmask!)

Type> /msg [email protected] HELLO [email protected] [email protected]

Then Check your email!
Then simply type> /msg [email protected] auth username password
Then type> //mode $me +x
-
yourusername.users.quakenet.org is now your hidden host
-
Then type> /join #planetarion

--

Once connected. (option two)
Type> /join #planetarion

Your support in this matter will be appreciated as I know Appocomaster / Kloopy and others have tried before to get a Q bot but the blooming thing is quite hard to get. You need 30 users in L's access list before it will give you a Q.

Futher more! I assure you I have no control over this channel! It is owned and operated by Planetarion. And the channel is owned by appocomaster!

There are a number of things I am doing @ Quakenet!

1) The bot planetarion I am writing a tcl manual script.
2) The bot will display all aspects of Planetarion news (old and new) news as an archive!
3) Adding a simple !links/!forums/!homepage/!calclinks/!alliances command. So bot will display links to the forums / portal / misc links / battle calc links / alliances homepages!

I would appreciate Alliance's sending me private messages with there homepage links. so they can be added.

Fr0sten, Could you please explain in your own words why you think this benefits the Planetarion community, and how it relates to the current quakenet thread on the suggestions forum here and alch's old thread here.

This way others can understand the benefits of being on two servers.

Also, I'd like to add my own comments:

Fr0sten has set up a bot and created me as owner of it, and transferred ownership of the channel to me. It currently has ~ 20 people in it, with L, a "lightweight" bot for smaller channels.

Q, which has more commands, is used for bigger channels.

Fr0sten is currently trying to set up and code a bot that outputs news on request, though he (as others) would like to see RSS on our site so it's easier to ... well, do whatever RSS allows you to do

check new items, etc.

Similar to what we have at netgamers but more efficent and undetictable! basicly its a bot which it randomly makes up and connects to the networks cycles the channel and any onjoins get G-Lined.

S sits in most channels and it works on a 3 strikes and your out system! So basicly spam is to be expected on a large network such as quakenet which is why they have advanced anti-spam systems.

if it was as effective as they claim, the network wouldnt be plagued by spambots.

Its trivial to write a bot which is careful about who it messages, either by waiting a couple of minutes before messaging to get around any timer events for detecting on join messages, or by being able to spot which join is the bot itself.

Ive been using quakenet for about 8 or so years and have never experienced problems with spamming so i find the last few posts confusing :O

On the proposal to move PA to quakenet the way you cant hold your nick make me vote a big fat no.

There is nothing positive about Quakenet - Using self-hosted bouncers is a pain in the arse as you wont get an exception very easely - it is absolutely full of little turds that annoy the hell out of the more mature users among us and the level of control Planetarion and the PATeam would have on the network is close to zero.
I fail to see what Quakenet would add for us and how it would be beneficial compared to Netgamers, and would love for you to enlighten us on this.

Theres no need for another thread on it, like he acknowledges in his first post.
Consequently, suggest this gets merged with the other thread that this idea got shot down in , in pa suggestions.

I think its quite simple:

In general, people on quakenet are internet-cool, people on netgamers are shit. Thus quakenet is ace. But maybe thats changed in the past year to two years.

In QuakeNet, you will find the majority of all online gamers, meaning players from clans in CounterStrike, Quake, etc.

As I pointed out in another suggestion thread, which was kindly deleted because it was too complexe for a certain person, that is the main audience Planetarion should be aiming for. These are the people who all pass several hours daily in front of their PC. Many amongst them play other browser games, such as o-game or xwars, since they are online most of the time and don't mind checking a webpage every so many hours.

As such, a QuakeNet channel certainly wouldn't be a bad idea.

P.S.: about the spam: QuakeNet certainly has the most sophisticated services out of all IRC networks. S protects big channels against all kind of abuse flawlessly. And if you use the new mode +R on yourself, unauthed users can't PM you. The same goes for +r on channels: users have to be authed to join it. This kinda kills all spam, and the users who shouldn't be blocked all have auth nicks anyways. Last but not least, even for small chans you will find tons of free security and abuse-protection bots which are ace.

It doesnt' cost me anything to follow Fr0sten's instructions to get Q into #planetarion on Quakenet so I'm doing it now.

It'll take 5 minutes and even if it means 1 person from quakenet discovers the game, it'll be a good thing.

You should all stop naysaying and take 5 minutes out to do it too.

Do you need us to idle there or anything Fr0sten?

If you read his first post you'd see.

He isn't telling us all to move over and emigrate to Quakenet (he did in another thread, but not this one).

This thread's aim is to SPREAD planetarion as a name and concept across to Quakenet so perhaps people will discover it. And one of the first steps for that is getting it registered with Q (their equivalent of P) on their network.

I do think expanding the borders is a good thing.

However, Fr0sten has proven to be such a royal jackass I am reluctant to even go near there because of him.

You are right. Even though i dont think it will get PA (much) new players, i think its worth a try.

My experiences during following Fr0stens instructions:

- the number of reserved nicks might be a problem. Both of my regular nicks where taken and it didnt allow me to use special chars like "_" for authing nicks (There are 14 users and 152391 invisible on 36 servers)

- the quakenet captcha is one of _the_ worst i have ever seen

took me about 5 tries to get one right and that was just luck.

- i got to view a neat ascii cow on connect

He may very well be a 'royal jackass' but Appoc controls the channel and the idea was something that was in place BEFORE Fr0sten got involved so lets not scupper it just because of one person.

If it stays as it is with under 30 people in it and very little discussion it doesnt help much but it takes very little effort by people to join and idle in the channel and only a fraction bit more to join/start a few conversations.

Is it likly to drag aload of people into the game, no but its a free and fairly easy way to get some free advertisng for the game and the more people in the channel and the more active the channel is the better that will work
