Creating Ship Statistics
When it's nowadays a tradition to have a high commander of an alliance do the statistics, would it be my turn to do them for the next round? I'd be especially honored, even more so if it'd be the first set of PAN statistics. Plus, I'm sure my alliance would like it.
So, the question, after the introduction, is, which alliance's high command staff should be given the responsibility to create the ship statistics for the next round? Or should the statistics be looked into something an independent person, perhaps a support member (1:1 planets) should do? Does it unfairly affect the metagame too much if an active member, especially an alliance leadership member, creates the statistics for the round?
Most of the time, the person who does the statistics has the best insights to them, after all; should this right be granted equally to all interested alliance staff (ie. alliances take turns to do stats; Ascendancy had theirs, now New Dawn had a shot at it, is it 1up, Omen or Insomnia next?), or should it be reserved to non-playing and non-metagame/politics involved persons only?

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
if you have an idea for some ship stats, e-mail them to Appocomaster ( [email protected]) to take a look at, and if he likes the first draft maybe they will get used, and you will be ofc editting them during the betas
Thats how Gates stats got picked afiak
Its not always someone in alliance leadership, appoco made the stats for a couple of rounds

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
There's no such thing.
Credence isn't given to alliance HCs or to anyone - instead, the person that does the stats is usually the one with the best/freshest ideas about doing stats. This round Gate posted very actively on the forums and most of the original stats makers (Appocomaster, Jester, myself, Sovereign) were happy to give him the chance to come up with the stats. The stats aren't perfect, but never are. It's already been agreed that in designing Cathaar, you either create a perfect top 10 race (r14, r17) or an impossible-to-get-in-the-top 100 race (r13).
As evidence:
Round 10/10.5 - Spinner (creator)
Round 11 - Sid (returned as 1up) rescued the stats.
Round 12 - Phil^ (PA Team)
Round 13 - Jester (1up, well known strategy guru)
Round 14 - Appocomaster (PA Team)
Round 15 - Appocomaster (PA Team)
Round 16 - Jester (Ascendancy)
Round 17 - Gate (NewDawn)

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
as furball says, theres no such tradition to let any HC do the stats. More often then not its done by PATeam themselves

Statmaking should be reserved for the competent.

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
And as far as I'm aware, the stats have been designed by alliance HCs just twice, as furball said; Sid and Jester.
And being HC of ascendancy is hardly HCing. It's more 'pimping'.
Since round 10, we've had 5 sets by PAteam types, 2 sets by community members (who had been HC at one time or another), and 2 sets by current HCs.

I'm slightly hoping that this thread was made as a joke
Have to admit, I'm inclined to agree with idler here. Statmaking should be reserved for those who have some idea on strategy and balance.

There is a problem with this, in that these people are less likely to have learnt from previous mistakes or issues in stats, as they haven't played and experienced them.
Though appoco did a great job in round 14, so I suppose this argument is pretty weak.

Unfortunatly this did prove to be a rarity - a member of PATeam who still understood the game. Since Appocomaster is ex-RaH/MISTU, he had a fairly decent basis from which to be stats-active.

It's not Christmas, foo!
Besides, I'm not sure that these stats are so bad. The universe has a helpful habit of sorting itself by mid-late round, and it's pointless judging until everyone has a decent number of all fleets (especially Zik CR/Terran BS fleets). The lower classes (FI/CO) will also need to balance themselves out after early round defence specialisation against these classes.

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
I made some stats for Round 15, but they never really got up to scratch in time for beta testing.

R14 stats were definetly fun....
before the ziks got racist with their
"ziks should be the only stealers" thread
also I may add r14 had a 1 week public beta (15 mins ticks) so the stats could be fine tuned.

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
Indeed, I wish there was a way to recognize rep givers. So much anonymous stuff with nothing written on it.

Re: Creating Ship Statistics
To me this stats (this rounds') doesn't really sux nor fantastic.
Though, in my opinion - it's the most boring since round11 ( i mean, even r11's is cooler - even with that DE/FR xand combo ).
