/ooc Welcome back. Character approved, although a bit of backstory for your dude between 2030 & 2065 would be nice. ooc/
You had been out taking down the last of the terrorist hide-outs when the attack began. You and the rest of your SWAT-style team moved to support the defense of the Senate building, but unfortunately a near-hit from a Majestic rocket had destroyed your APC's engine: and not even you could fix a slagged engine, at least not while getting shot at. Your squad had then jumped into a number of intact cars sitting along the curb, and used those as transport. Although the best you could do, the cars weren't armored, and so several of them were destroyed en route by lucky shots from Majestic WAVEs and anti-vehicular infantry. The remainder of you managed to get to the Senate building in time to join in its defense, and the subsequent retreat from it, abandoning the Commonwealth Seat of Government to the enemy. Finally your group made it to the Spaceport, hoping to get a ride off of the planet, but once again, you were a bit late, as all of the space-worthy vehicles had already left or been shot down by the time you got there. Now, you and the surviving members of your squad were pinned down in an old Munitions hanger at one end of the spaceport, Majestic forces closing in.
"Hey Qurk! Remember that tank I was telling you about? Well, it's back!" One of your teammates, Leroy Jenkins, reports, ducking back from the personnel door to the hanger as a heavy machine gun snarls to life outside.
"Hey, Qurk! Come check this out!" Gregory Williamson, another of your teammates, calls out from the rear of the hanger. Following the sound of his voice, you round a parts shelf to see Gregory lovingly running a hand along the side of an old Abrams II tank. Emblazoned on the side of the turret was a faded Sun with nine rays: the symbol of the Sol Commonwealth. Apparently, someone had stored the old tank here and had forgotten about it.
"Think you can get it running again?" Gregory asks you as he clamors up onto the top of the tank and starts looking for the entrance hatch.

The cat purrs even louder as you scratch behind its ears, and then it confidently strides over to a nearby railing. Several potted plants were sitting on it, and these the cat disturbed as it leapt up onto the railing. One of the pots was a bit too close to the edge, and toppled as the cat brushed up against it. The clay pot shattered as it fell onto the porch, and the cat, clearly startled, hopped down from the railing and ran under a nearby bush. Looking back down at the potted plant, you catch a gleam of metal in the soil: a key.

You exchange pleasantries with the Majestic soldier, if they could be called that, for another minute or two, and then all H*ll breaks loose as the one soldier reaches the door to the back offices. Just as the soldier reaches for the door handle, it bursts open and the Commonwealth pilot staggers out, snapping up his pistol and firing three rounds into the Majestic soldier's head. The soldier collapses, and the pilot begins to shift his aim towards the one right beside you, but is distracted as a burst of rifle fire blasts a line of holes in the wall right next to him. Turning, you can see the second Majestic soldier struggling to bring his assault rifle to bare on the Commonwealth pilot, as one of the bank employees attempts to tackle him. The Majestic soldier, easily weighing two or three times the employee's weight due to his powered armor, remains standing, and as you watch, easily shrugs the employee away from him with his augmented strength. For a moment, the soldier turns his attention to the employee, ramming the butt of his rifle into the employee's side, and then up into his jaw, with bone-shattering force. The employee collapses, screaming in pain, but his sacrifice was not in vain as the Commonwealth pilot rapidly shifts his aim and fires again, striking the Majestic soldier four times in the chest and throwing him to the ground. Beside you, the lead Majestic soldier snarls and draws his pistol as he says, "That's enough of this."

/ooc Nope, only two: the one being the pest and the other lying in wait to attack from ambush. ooc/
As you experience post-traumatic stress syndrome (
), the
Banshee's shotgun calmly auto-ejects the spent shell and chambers a fresh one. Thankfully, you resolve the struggle going on in your own mind before the
Banshee is ready to fire again, and take action. Igniting your
Kensai's boosters, you rocket forward towards the enemy, clearing catching him off-guard as he fails to track your movement with his shotgun. Ramming your shotgun forward at the
Banshee, you nearly stab the end of it into the enemy WAVE, and then fire, giving it the full effect of your shotgun blast at point-blank range. The
Banshee virtually flies backward from the impact, knocked off of its feet and sent careening into the hanger, crushing in the roof and partially collapsing the wall. Not paying it any more attention, you level your rifle at the second
Banshee back and fire. The rifle slug slams into an area roughly equal to where a man's right kidney would be located, and the impact shatters most of the
Banshee's back armor plating and deeply dents the remaining plates. Better still, the impact throws the
Banshee forward, out of the alleyway and directly into Ling's sights, who blasts more of the Majestic WAVE's armor plating off with his machine guns. Hearing the screech of tortured metal next to you, you turn to see the first
Banshee struggling to its feet. Its cockpit was cracked, but not shattered, and at this close of range, you could see the pilot's face twist into a hateful sneer as he brought his own shotgun up at you. His by-now reloaded shotgun.

As you continue fleeing from the Majestic WAVE, you attempt to come up with a way to favorably end this chase: your knowledge of the New York streets had saved you so far, but right now it was only giving you a tie, not a victory. As you travel a block down the new road, anxiously keeping an eye on your rear camera, you attempt to read the street signs. You manage to do so, and find yourself about to cross 31st Street. A news report snaps unbidden to your mind: a new shopping plaza had just been built along 31st Street, complete with an entrance to the new magnetic subway system. While it was probably large enough to accommodate your WAVs, those were just the tunnels: the foot entrances probably were not big enough. In addition, even if you were able to get into the tunnels, the near super-sonic magtrains that zipped through the tunnels would likely crush your WAV like a bug on a windshield should you get hit by one. Then again, you had also heard that some of the new buildings were considering the installation of supply elevators down to the subway stations: perhaps this new plaza had one of those, if you wanted to attempt suicide. In any case, the decision may well be out of your hands, as the Majestic
Viper rounds the corner and stops, raising its rifle and carefully aiming. Twisting your WAV around to face down 31st Street, you dash out of the intersection, ignoring the leg stress warnings that flashed on your status screen and screamed in your ears. Once again, you got lucky as the rifle slug fired from the
Viper went wide, slamming into and demolishing a small convenience store.

You attempt to pack your stuff up, but the soldiers don't let you, shoving you out the door of your laboratory while leaving one of their number behind to keep the building secure, along with your assistants. The last you see of them is the soldier directing them to cuff their hands behind their backs with the set of handcuffs given to each of them a few moments earlier, before marching into the Supply Closet. Then, the last soldier in line slams the laboratory door shut, and you see no more. The four soldiers hustle you out the main doors of the building where your laboratory was housed, and you can now see that an armored car is waiting at the bottom of the steps, the form of a driver barely visible through the heavily tinted glass. "Don't worry, your assistants will be safe as well, provided they don't cause trouble and prove to be useful researchers." The lead soldier says, no doubt attempting to reassure you, although that still doesn't answer any questions about what is going to happen to
you. Before you can even consider a reply, however, you hear a muffled bang, and the soldier to your immediate right goes down, splattering a copious amount of blood and what remained of his brains onto the steps as he fell. "Sniper!" one of the still-standing soldiers shouted, and a second later you felt yourself literally thrown down the remainder of the steps and onto the curb. You land in a heap, and although your left side shrieks in protest, you are able to roll with the impact and disperse enough of it that you do little more than bruise a few of your ribs. Still, you scream out in pain, the coppery taste of blood filling your mouth as you bite down hard on your tongue a moment later. For their part, the three surviving soldiers hustle down the stairs to join you, firing wildly at the location they suspected the sniper of being at. "GET HIM IN THE CAR!! IN THE CAR!!" You hear someone shout the orders, but before anyone can react, more, and much louder, gunfire rips through the street. As you vision starts to slowly clear, you hear one of the Majestic soldiers scream "Ambush!", before leaning up over the hood of the armored car and firing off a burst at an unseen assailant. The sound of glass shattering catches your ear a moment later, and the front passenger window just over your head mysteriously gains several new patches of dark red paint. "Sh*t!! Sh*t!! They got the driver!!" You hear a moment later, and a disquieting knot forms in your stomach as you wonder if any of you were going to get out of this life. Suddenly, you are pulled upright from your prone position into a sitting position as the lead soldier pulls you up and leans you gently up against the car. "Do you know how to fire a gun!!?" He shouts at you, before shoving a pistol into your hands and standing to deliver a burst of fire over the roof of the car. He ducks back down a moment later, staring into your face with intent eyes. "If you do, you better start helping us now, because those Commonwealth slugs want to see you just as dead as they want us."

Seeing that this area was about to get much more unfriendly with you, you scream at your remaining squadmates to move, move, move, and start running down the streets, intent on putting as much distance between you and that nasty gunship full of evil as you could. Looking over your shoulder at your men - and they definitely were
your men now, you solicit them for ideas, but only get blank stares in return. Suddenly, however, one of your men shouts "Look! Sir, up ahead!!" Pointing just a block ahead, the man indicated for you a manhole cover: a manhole cover which would hopefully lead you into what was left of the old New York sewer system.
