Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

ooc/ a bit into the DM here, I hope I won't do anything wrong here /ooc

*Remmon reacted just the creature jumped at him, trying to dodge off to the right to avoid the razor sharp claw and at the same time firing his pistol. The extremely short range made up for the moving target as both pulse rounds slammed into it, though it didn't help much as Remmon felt a sharp pain momentarily pulling through his left arm. The pain was gone almost as fast at it came however and the first red creature dropped to the floor*

*Almost immediatly the second creature prepared to jump, this time however Remmon was prepared and fired another 2 rounds, this time into the second creature. As soon as the second shot had left the barrel of his pistol, Remmon jumped forward and turned as he continued his way up to the second floor, hoping to get up to the barrack and get a medic to look his arm over, the wound had pierced through but as of yet it still didn't hurt. Remmon knew that however that the pain he didn't feel now, would come back double at him later, on the other hand, he was hoping to be in the barracks by the time it was this later*

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Alexander sees the marines come out of tower c and hits the dirt, or snow in this case. He is now laying against the banked side of the walkway. He grabed his pulse rifle that was hanging from his back. As he moves it as stealthy as he can to aim at the two marines. He didn't fire. Drawing attention to ones self when trying to get to a wounded man was not advisable. The best thing he could hoop for is they would run of in another diraction soon because he only had about five omre minutes befor the marine was probably beyond help.

Name: Isagani "demiGOD" Troy
Rank: Private First Class
Age: 18
Role: Engineer
Squad: HQ
History/Info: Sir, Pfc Troy reporting for duty. Graduated top 2nd on Combat Systems and Engineering, also classified coded technical specialist on most, if not all, heavy equipment, auxiliaries, power generation, electro-hydraulics and all support systems for Engineering systems and Combat equipment. Sent here to Novagorsk by my battallion commander 2nd LT Slavin, back from mainland. Hope our admin didn't mark me U.A., I know I'm under orders but our transport had a crappy Main reduction gear so we were stranded at an obscure asteriod - our navigation systems were crappy too, so although we could see the moons of Novagorsk, our nav radars were giving false signals all over the place - fixed our reduction gear and I personally fixed our nav systems to the component level so we were able to sail here. Intel guys from the ship sent you my orders through radio ranging tech, completely 21st century technology.. don't know if you guys received it - the trip was HELL, but I made it here.. hope I didn't miss any action.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

DMing begins for the day - December 23rd, 2004
My, we're quite some way into the thread now. It's about time I started killing people off...

From now on, you're more likely to die or be seriously wounded if you do something silly. I won't just kill you straight away, rather you'll recieve one or two "warning wounds" before I kill you. Two players have already recieved their warning wounds. Not all of you are going to see out the end of this thread, so let's see who does and who doesn't.

Incidentally, people who don't post have little chance of survival. Such people include:
Wraith,
Hewitt,
Inspectre,
...And possibly others.

Crazy
Deciding that you don't fancy being in confined spaces, for reasons know only to your self you head into the cramped confines of the stairwell - a flight of stairs narrow enough for two people to walk side by side, winding back in on itself right up the full height of the base. You start climbing. You can hear gunfire and inhuman screeching coming from each floor you pass. That aside though, it all seems pretty easy. You pass the double doors to fifth underground and continue on up the stairs. Up ahead you, see the door to fourth undeground. All of a sudden, a carcophany of screeching fills your head. Through the doorway in front of you - the doors are hanging off their hinges - you see red creatures about the size of dogs fighting with the same small purple creatures you saw in the ruined generator room. There are three of the large red creatures - which look kind of like ants, with powerful jaws and razor sharp front limbs - fighting against a much greater number of the purple creatures. As you watch, one of the red ant-critters charges into the seething purple mass, flinging two up into the air and spearing another dead on its front leg. You notice that one purple creature isn't making any attempt to engage with the rest of its brethren, and is merely sitting back and watching. Four purple creatures swarm the forward red one, slashing at it with their sharp front claws, and it gives a piercing shriek as one of its limbs is hacked off, before turning to crush one of the purple creatures with its powerful jaws. None of them appear to be paying you much heed...

Dunin
You get to the Armoury door uninterrupted. Nothing is ammiss. The door opens easily in front of you, and inside the racks of weaponry, armour and equipment are there undisturbed. There is noone inside the room. But where did the scream come from? Something on the floor catches your eye - a pulse pistol, stained with blood. A larger pool of blood lies on the floor, and you notice that the air vent opening near the cieling is hanging open. Suddenly, something leaps out from the vent. About the size of a man's hand outstretched, it is purple, with sharp talons on its front limbs and powerful-looking jaws. It emits a high pitched screech when it spots you, and scurries behind a rack of grenades. If you fire at it, you could set them off...

PK
You punch in the access code for the doors and walk through into the corridor beyond. The doors close shut behind you, and the howling of the wind is cut off abruptly. It is warmer inside the corridors - and the dim emergency lighting is on, with the technicians apparently having been able to get the auxilliary generators for the floor - or at least this section of the floor - running. Something doesn't seem right though. Looking down to your right, you see a Marine lying on the floor, dead, in a pool of his own blood. He appears to have been stabbed right through the chest - whatever it was punched clean through his armoured vest - and a look of utter horror is frozen upon his face. At precisely this moment, you hear a high pitched shrieking noise coming from up ahead, passed the dead Marine. The lights down that section of corridor up ahead aren't on. You can hear something scuttling toward you over the steel deckplates, and it's coming fast...

Darkling
Deciding that upgrading your current weaponry while grabbing a few extras is the way to go, you put on heavier reinforced armour and get a number of accessories for your pulse rifle, making it a fair bit more effective. Taking two pulse pistols, a number of grenades, several clips of ammunition and a new gas cannister for your blowtorch (the canister slots into your toolbox, gas fed to the blowtorch via a line), you finish by taking a boosted coms device of the kind that the Light Marines use. After fitting this into your helmet, you leave the Armoury. You'd taken a lot of equipment, but there was certainly no shortage of it remaining. This done, you set off for the research facilty. You move to second underground, and pass by some Heavy Marines standing guard on the heavy bulkhead door that leads to the passage going to the research facility. They open the door for you as soon as you appear, apparently informed of your objective, and as you move into the long, dark passage beyond the door shuts behind you. You reach the bulkhead door at the other end, and see several Light Marines, one of whom is a 2nd Lieutenant (Inspectre). As you approach, one of the Light Marines, a Sergeant, turns round quickly and aims his pulse rifle at you.

"52nd?" He calls out, his voice echoeing back toward you from the corridor behind a few moments later.

Fluffie
At your command, Mathers gets his gas mask out of its pouch in his combat webbing and puts it on, tighening the straps securely behind his head. A sheet of what looks like plastic hangs down from the back of the mask, covering the back of his head, and he tucks the bottom of this sheet into the collar of the uniformed battle dress uniform under his armoured vest, fully enclosing his head. This done, he walks over to the pegs on the wall and puts on one of the long, bulky winter coats - white, for camouflage.

"All set, sir." He says, his voice taking on that inhuman, distorted quality that the gas masks tend to create. After a few moments watching the door as though he expected it to explode inwards, followed by swarms of Rangers, he checks his pulse rifle for jams at almost the same time you do. Seemed to be working fine - you could never tell at this temperature. This done, you give him the details of your (rather easy to memorise) formation. "Roger that, sir, I'll cover our backs." And then, the two of you are outside. It is clear for the moment, but the wind is already starting to pick up again - blowing strems of icy snow from the tops of the drifts. You can feel the cold through your winter coat, but it does at least block out the biting wind. You set off toward the base, Mathers following behind. But, immediately, you're in trouble. You stop, Mathers turns to see what's going on, and immediately swears loudly through the external microphone of the gas mask. There's a starship - a frigate - hovering about five hundred feet off the ground in front of you - you can see the brilliant light form its fusion engines. It's wreathed in cloud, but doesn't seem to be doing much other than hovering there. After a few moments, you see a light open up in the side of the ship - a hangar bay, presumably, and a large, unwieldy looking aircraft flies out of it. Dropship. You hear a boom and a roar as the aircraft's powerful thrusters ignite, and it starts coming toward you...

Bakan
Your powerful robotic arm opens the elevator doors easily, and you find yourself inside the cabin. Punching in the code for second underground, you sit back and wait, tense. The elevator was small. Suddenly, you hear a groaning noise coming from all around you, and the cabin shakes alarmingly. At precisely this moment, the doors open in front of you, and you're staring down a corridor leading away directly ahead of you toward the Armoury - the latter you know, since a plaque on the wall says so. Doesn't look like it's much farther. You move down the corridor, and see the door to the Armoury up ahead. But, it's open. As you watch, it slides shut. Someone's inside...

Flapjack
I'll decide when and where you kill stuff, ta.

Your pulse pistol shots go wide, and the first creature, still very much alive, withdraws its front limb and pierces your arm through again. Pain flares in the wound. Determined not to die, however, you raise your pulse pistol and fire two rounds at the second creature - killing it outright. Unfortunatly, however, the first is still hanging steadfastly off of your arm...

Mao
You decide to hide. After all, you were at the tower to save lives, not to take them. Remembering that there were only two Marines at the tower, and that one was dead and the other seriously wounded, those two outside the tower had to be enemies. After a few moments, you turn out to be correct, and they walk off over out of side beyond a bank of snow. You watch the tower for a few moments more - it seems to be deserted. The door to the building is still open.

demiGOD
Inventive little introduction, but unfortunatly a transport arriving at this moment would screw the thread narrative over, so you're already on the planet. Engineers belong to the HQ Squad (as do all specialists). Also, you've got to pick your equipment from the equipment lists (which are half way down the first page, if I remember correctly). Apart from that it's fine. I'll start you off now and get you some action once you get the equipment you're carrying posted.

You had possibly the darkest, loneliest guard post in the entire Battalion, guarding the generator control room. The generators were automated now, and controlled from the control room on sixth underground besides, so the generator control room was a completely pointless, obsolete structure on the tenth underground floor, in the now-abandoned technician quarters, which were dark, shadowy places where the lights frequently didn't work and where rust was gradually claiming the Durasteel walls. Of course, it was also out of the way in the event of an attack, which was apparently ongoing now. You'd heard the pair of huge explosions several minutes ago, the ground shaking and a blast of hot air reaching you through the corridors, and had spent the last few minutes trying to find out what was going on - as an engineer, you had some idea of how to monitor the systems through the information panels in the control room, which still worked. However, it was readily apparent that one generator was utterly destroyed, and that the other (despite no little effort on your part) was damaged beyond repair or function. Now all you needed to do was get out of here. You'd tried radioing HQ for orders, but no response. The control room is a small room with no windows, and one narrow door leading out into the main corridor of the disused technician's quarters beyond. At the end of that corridor is a door, leading into the perimeter corridor for the tenth underground level. A number of doors lead inwards from that perimeter corridor into the generator rooms - which probably aren't a good place to be at the moment, with both of the generators apparently having been consumed by fire.

"Oh, what now? I've been stuck on guard duty, attacked by black ops men, shot at, nearly blown up, now monsters. Joy."

*As he was talking to himself, PK was backing up to the door he had come through and crouched down. He aimed his pulse rifle towards the darkness up ahead, hoping to surprise whatever was coming with a spray of rounds as soon as it came into view.*

Having guns pointed at him was becoming a regular occurance, Lewis thought to himself. THough that did not make it any easier to get used to, the rather short and cryptic reply from the light marine taking a few seconds to figure out as his thoughts where rather scattered right now. Thinking both of his family and trying survive this tog et back home and what could happen if he simple died without putitng up a fight, such a lowly way to end your existance. Snapping his mind back to reality now was not the time to be day dreaming , answering the light marine promtly.
"Corporal Lewis Morgan, 45th HQ Squad."
Not entirly sure wetehr to be serious or light hearted about it, deciding maybe its best to stay serious last thing Lewis wanted to do was upset somone pointing a gun at him.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

"Alright men, let's get the hell out of here, and back on track. I'll shut this door behind us, so more of these f***ers don't sneak up behind us." That said, Jake stepped through the doorway, advancing into the next section of corridor. He then waits for the other two to advance through, weapons held at the ready. "Cover me." Jake says simply, as he beings to shut the door, and then input the code into the keypad to make sure it remains locked, and so that he would be able to open the door again from this side as he thought would be possible. When finished, Jake nods, and says, "Alright, let's get going again: double time!!" He then starts moving down this next section of corridor at a fast march, careful to sweep the entire corridor with his thermal vision . . . who knew where the little f***ers would be choosing as their next ambush point, if indeed, there were anymore of the little f***ers around.

Crazy stopped, hiding in the shadows, when he saw the critters. He frowned, as they didn't seem to notice him. Then they started attacking each other. He raised an eyebrow, looked at the TV camera and shrugged. Crazy raised his rifle to his shoulder, finger hovering above the trigger. He watched the critters as they fought. He darn't move, in case they heard him and decided he was a better meal. No. He'd wait until they'd killed each other, then he'd finish them off. Yes. That sounded good. Or he could always drop his grenade into the midst of them and kill them all now. No. He didn't see the point of that. It looked like they were going to kill each other. So why waste the grenade. Yes. He'd stay here, hiding in the shadows. Waiting for the moment to finish of the winner with explosive death.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Cali freezes, and in that instant the little critter scurries into the relative safety behind some grenades. Narrowing her eyes Cali closes the door behind her and pulls up the com boosted radio.

"Corporal Roxborough to HQ. Over," she calls. If answered and not attacked, she continues: "I'm at Armoury 1. I've found traces of a fight - someone's been killed. A crablike critter just jumped out of the air vent - I don't know, maybe something from the local fauna." Was there even such a thing on this moon, she wonders.

Anyway, time to fix this little problem. Cali slings her shotgun over her shoulder and pulls out her sword bayonet. Cautiously she approaches the rack, moving on both feet and her left hand. "Here mousey, mousey," she whispers towards the grenades. And really; could this be any harder than catching a mouse? Well...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

"Mathers, we're getting behind the tower, now!"

Fluffie didn't use the communicator, he just used the external communicator on the mask, like Mathers just a few seconds before him. He turned and hurried back towards the tower, circling around it to the opposite side of where the drop ship would land. Kneeling, he checked his rifle again and got out the SMG from under his coat, slinging it around his back on top of the coat, loaded and ready for quick use. Then, he looked up to Mathers, who hopefully had prepared for battle himself too...

"You go around left, I'll go around right... Stay close to the wall and a few moments after that drop ship lands, we come around the corner and open fire."

Fluffie got up again, looking towards his side of Tower D. Holding his rifle casually for the moment, he heard the dropship draw ever closer...

"Open up as soon as you think they're close enough. Use whatever you want, 'nades, pistol... And don't forget 'bout the roof... just adjust your aim if needed, ok?"

He took a first, short but confident, step towards his side.

"Good luck."

Not looking back, he quickly rounded his corner and began advancing forward, staying close to the wall for cover. Half way there, he dropped into a crouching position, the butt of his weapon pressed again his shoulder, his head leaning against the cold steel and his eyes looking down the gunsight. Having approached the corner far enough, he stopped and kept as quiet as he could, fully concentrating on the sound of the landing dropship and the Marines getting out, advancing towards their towers.

He took a few looks to his side, making sure he wasn't being attacked in his flank, but the bulk of his attention was focussed on detecting footsteps and other sounds betraying the hostile Marines. As soon as they were close enough or when he heard Mathers opening fire (or throwing a 'nade), he turned the corner (or looked up), opening fire on each individual still standing, firing short bursts of explosive bullets...

His Rifle kept on firing till empty if needed and if emptied, he quickly dropped it, slinging the SMG from his back towards his hands, reopening fire as soon as his aim was good again.

Not seeing any off the bat, he sighed and typed in the combination, and took some cover to the side of the door as it opened. Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

PK
Dropping to one knee and bringing your pulse rifle up, you set the weapon to three round burst. The rattling of something hard tapping the steel floor continues. Suddenly, you hear a screech, and a small purple creature about the size of a man's hand outstretched leaps at you out of the shadows. You are ready for it, and three pulse rounds obliterate it completely. That thing looked dangerous, but now it's clearly dead. Unfortunatly, a few moments later, and you can hear more faint rattling coming from the walls and from the cieling. This probably wasn't a safe place to be. Shortly after considering this, you hear a lot of the screeching noises in unison echoing toward you from the darkened section of corridor up ahead.

Darkling
Apologies there. He was meant to say "45th?" - I forgot which number we were on.

On your reply, the Sergeant lowers his pulse rifle and jerks his head to the left, apparently indicating that you can pass. Presently, you hear the 2nd Lieutenant talking about shutting the heavy bulkhead door behind them, and so you run out into the corridor beyond. The door grinds to a close with a crash of metal on Duracrete, and after a string of expletive-filled orders from the 2nd Lieutenant, the Light Marines are off again, back on their own mission. They vanish into the darkness beyond. You see a corridor directly in front of you, with a plaque reading "Armoury" and pointing in that direction. It is very quiet, though in the distance you are sure you can hear the crack of gunfire.

Inspectre
Moving out of the facility-barracks tunnel, you hear a brief exchange between Sergeant Henley and another Marine - apparently an Engineer (Darkling) in the corridor behind. Standard stuff, identity check and confirmation. The Engineer runs out of the tunnel - you notice that he's pretty heavily armed - and looks around, apparently considering his own objectives. Wordlessly, Henley and Scarez - looking grimly resigned to whatever fate awaits him - stand to as you shut the door, and lock it. The keypad beeps happily, confirming your inputted code, and, with that, you order the two men onwards at double time. The sound of your boots hitting the steel floor fills your ears, and you run into the darkness to the left of the tunnel exit. With thermal imaging on, you see two doors up ahead - one for the elevator shaft, one for the stairwell doors. You see Corporal Incom Morgan (Bakan) exitting the elevator - he is easily recognisable with his robotic left arm. He is unarmed and unarmoured, and probably heading for the Armoury. You remembered the Heavy Marines protesting at being put on internal guard duty without their equipment, and evidently they'd had just cause to. You need to drop down one level, you can take the stairs or the elevator. If you want to raid the Armoury, now would be a good time to do that.

Crazy
You continue your observation of this vicious exotic fauna unnoticed, waiting to finish off the winners with your pulse rifle. The red creatures appear to be winning, overwhelming the purple creatures with sheer force. You watch as the lead red creature is hacked to pieces, only for its two companions to tear in to the purple creatures' ranks. However, you notice that the purple creatures appear to be getting rapidly better with time. Suddenly, the purple creatures disengage, wheeling away, before turning to face their adversaries again. The red creatures rush forwards, but this time the purple creatures are ready for them. Two of the purple creatures are instantly speared by the reds' razor sharp front claws, and at this point four of the remaining eight (not counting the observer purple) begin attacking the reds from the front. One is crushed by the vice-like grip of the red's jaws. The other four purples, however, split into two pairs, one running up each wall of the corridor. You watch as two leap onto the backs of each red, hacking them to pieces. After the ensueing bloodbath, four purples, as well as the observer, remain. They appear preoccupied with stripping the red corpses of flesh, and do not notice you.

Dunin
You send off the transmission to HQ, but recieve no reply. Evidently they're too busy with other communications. Deciding that, seeing as one stray shot could set off the whole rack of grenades, firing wasn't a good idea, you instead pull out your sword bayonet and, holding it in one hand, move forward toward the shadows behind the grenades. Suddenly, your hear a temendous crash, and the grenades are flying in all directions - the creature having leapt through them directly at you. It lands on your chest, knocking you over onto your back, and, screeching loudly, raises its two front limbs, eyes fixed on your throat...

Fluffie
"Yes sir." Mathers responds, already following you behind the tower. The two of you kneel in the shadows behind the tower, checking your weapons. Mathers appears satisfied, and almost as an afterthought reloads his pulse rifle, slamming a new clip home. You give him the details of your plan. He seems to be fairly calm, not the jumpy rookie you encountered on the upper floor of the tower earlier. Once you finish your brief instructions, he nods. "Got it, sir," He says through the gas mask even as the roar of the dropship's engines begins to drown out all other sound, "ambush them as soon as they're in range, fire at will." And, with that, he troops off around the corner to his side of the tower. You see him drop down as soon as he rounds the corner, moving low so as not to be seen. You wish him luck, but with the sound of the dropship quite so deafening, he almost certainly didn't hear. You creep around to your side of the tower, waiting, as the dropship's engines get louder and louder still. You hear the sound lower in pitch - it was slowing, and then suddenly powder snow was being thrown up from in front of the tower - it was landing. Abruptly, the air is filled with shouting.

"Move, move, move!" You hear the cries, apparently from the NCOs. "Storm the tower! Flash and clea-" Whoever was doing the ordering was cut off abruptly by the sharp report of a pulse rifle. Looking round your corner, you see the man turning backwards in the air, landing on his spine with blood pouring from a neck wound. Good shot, Mathers. The other private doesn't waist any time, and opens up on full automatic. You hear confused cries from the Rangers at the front of the tower, and at this point you too open fire. The Rangers, turning to meet Mathers' fire, are caught off guard. With the roar of the dropship's engines still drowning out most noise, they can't figure out where your position is for some time. You punch one Marine off his feet with a hail of pulse rounds, and another well-placed burst explodes the head of another in crimson gore. At this point you are spotted, and pulse rounds slam into the Duracrete tower wall next to your head, sending shards of the stuff flying all around. Your pulse rifle runs out of ammunition and, dropping it, you open up with the Mp10, spraying fire at the Rangers. The sub machine gun runs out of ammunition more quickly, and you duck back behind the wall. Your pulse rifle is nearby, both your weapons are out of ammunition. The dropship would likely be carrying a full squad - 20 men - but they'd be exitting through the full-length doors on both sides of the aircraft - half of them were out of your line of fire behind it's body. Mathers had killed their Sergeant with his first shot, and you had counted six more of the Rangers down on the floor, dead, before your Mp10 ran out of ammunition, with two more wounded badly. A grenade bounces off the corner next to you, exploding, and for a moment you are death as the ringing fills your ears. Looking down, you see that a small piece of shrapnel has driven itself into your shin. It stings like hell, but it isn't doing any lasting damage. An explosion and a few faint - over the sound of the engines - screams from the front of the tower indicates a well-placed grenade from Mathers. The dropship is, as far as you can tell, still on the ground.

Bakan
As you exit the elevator, you briefly see three Light Marines led by a 2nd Lieutenant (Inspectre) quick-marching down the corridor toward you. You pay them no heed, and continue on toward the armoury. Entering the correct key combination - the pad didn't appear to have been tampered with - you took cover behind the doorway as it opened, and peek around just in time to see a dangerous-looking purple creature throw itself at a female Standard Marine Corporal (Dunin), holding a sword bayonet. The force of the impact knocks her onto her back, and the creature apparently prepares itself to slash away at her neck with its front claws...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

"Heh. That was intresting."

Crazy, pulse rifle raised, aimed at the purple critter that hadn't taken part. For some reason, it seemed like the right one to kill first. Squeezeing his trigger, he let off a trio of shots, aimed at the observer. As soon as the third bullet had left the barrel, Crazy thumb the rifle onto full automatic, switched his aim to the four remaining little buggers and fired, sending a hail of explosivness their way, hopfully splattering them all in big mess of explosive gooyness, to add to the gooyness of their attacks on the gooy red things that were now a pile of gooy goo.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Cali's bayonet comes up to intercept the creature in midair but it passes way off its target. Landing with the thing on her chest, her breath is knocked out of her lungs. The creature is poised to strike and wastes no time: The two sharp blades of its forelimbs come down only to be stopped by the sharp side of the sword. The points are mere centimeters from Cali's unarmoured throat.
Her breath back where it belongs, she lets out a wordless snarl and with one swipe drags the blade along the undersides of the forelimbs, hoping to sever them. Her left fist comes flying through the air to knock the creature off of Cali's vest/breastplate.

Crap!! Generators are on fire!!! He grabs the actuator of the remote Halon station from the consoles, hoping that it would stop the fire but to no avail, from the plasma display of the generator monitoring screens indicate that all Halon and all damage control system alignments are jacked and the only real way to survive this situation was to get out of there as quick as possible.

Tried to radio in for HQ for the seconde time but no response was heard, only the constant static of nothing... and he suddenly felt the fear that he might not even see the light for any time now, with the generators engulfed in flames might detonate the very backbone of this generator complex. As he headed out towards the main corridor and the main entrance to the control station, he slipped and fell in a huge slick of lube oil coming from the gas generators of the reactor - he panicked... I'm not only in a space where it will blow up anytime soon, I'm also in a contaminated area... I gotta get outta here!!!!

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

You might want to try skim-reading the rest of the thread and then re-doing that post or something, because as it is now it doesn't really fit, with the base swarming with monsters and such. Of course, you could be taking the piss here, in which case I'd sure look silly, but, assuming you're not (and I don't think you are), I'd advise looking at the way in which the other RPers post.

Also, as I've said once already, you can't be an Engineer and in the Heavy Squad - it's one or the other.

*Seeing the other marine in trouble with the creature, Incom reacts with barely a through. Launching himself towards it, and winds up his artifical left arm, and swings at the creature. The force of the blow sends it flying off the Marine. Not bothing to slow down, Incom rushes it, smiling as he sees the nice shattered dent in it's hide, and swings again, aiming to crush it's head.*

Passing the light marines and entering the new corrdor, recalling how it looks rather dreary and erie down there the sound of far of gunfire not helping, raising his pulse rifle to a steady level Lewis walks forward in a slow manner. The silence didnt help lift the rather ominous feeling in the air right now somthing was not right about this, thats all he could tell though. Increasing his pace a little decding that maybe now was not the best time to wasting jumping at shadows, besdies thats why he had a few guns least he hoped it would have some use. Looking around as he makes his way down corridor checking behind himself now and then with a quick spin on the spot.
"They could of least added a flashlight to these rifles its hardly state of the art tech"
Mumbling to himself as some darker areas of corridor where over shadowed by pipe work and notches in the wall.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Fluffie reloaded his SMG more than just swiftly, acting purely on instinct and training now. His Mp10 in one hand, his other reaches for his flash grenade. Liberating the pin, he throws the grenade around the corner, in the general direction of the dropship and the Marines that were spawning from it. After the flash, he and his weapon pay a visit to "around the corner" again, firing off shots at the hopefully dazed soldiers with one hand, while the other quickly reaches for his Rifle('s sling). As soon as he's out of ammo again, he goes back to the relative safety of his corner, stands up and begins making his way back to the back of the tower, reloading both weapons as he goes.

The Mp10 ready for use hanging by its sling, Fluffie holds his Rifle against his shoulder again as he kneels down again (not to far from the corner to the back of Tower D), waiting/hoping for hostile Marines to turn the corner he had been previously camping at...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Crazy
For reasons known only to yourself, you decide to shoot the purple critter that is farthest away from you before shooting the others. But then, you are insane. The observer critter is instantly obliterated by the accurate burst of fire, but almost immediately the other four are on to you. Switching your pulse rifle to full automatic, you spray fire in their direction. Three of them explode in showers of purple innards, but the fourth leaps at you, somehow passing through the hail of bullets to scythe a vicious-looking talon across your right arm. You feel a sharp pain as the chitinous limb easily cuts through the skin of your own, much fleshier, limb. The creature lands smartly on the steps leading up to the next level, turns and screeches at you loudly. You can hear more screching coming form the corridor beyond the open doorway...

Hewitt
You decide to let the creature wait its pleasure. Catherine continues watching it for several seconds, then:

"Why...don't...you...shoot it?" She asks in a low whisper, visibly shaking with fear. And, a few moments thereafter, it quickly becomes evident why the purple critter was waiting. Three more of them burst from the air vent opening, screeching in unison. You fire your shotgun, and the first purple creature is annihalated by the cloud of closely-packed shotgun pellets. Luckily, since you were prepared to kill the first if it jumped, you're ready when the others do. One is blown out of the air as it leaps, and you sidestep out of the way of two more. They hit the wall, landing on its surface, and begin to scamper up it toward the cieling...

Dunin
You aim a slash at the creature's forelimb joints, but with it in such an awkward position, you miss and instead skewer it on the point of the sword bayonet - just as desirable an outcome. Purple blood sprays out of the creature, splashing onto your uniform in several places. The creature gives a piercing shriek, jerks spasmodically and then dies, just as Corporal Incom Morgan (Bakan) dashes through the doorway behind you. He's easily recognisable by his robotic artificial arm. The creature is very much dead, and the Armoury appears to be safe for now.

Bakan
You rush into the room, but the female Marine (Dunin) has already skewered the critter on her bayonet by the time you enter. It's now just you and row upon row of shiny weaponry and equipment.

Darkling
You move cautiously, checking your surroundings at regular intervals, but it appears needless. By the time you've reached the stairwell and ascended the short flight of steps to the ground floor of the research facility, the sound of gunfire has more or less faded. You are now standing on the ground floor of the research facility. It's small. There are two doors that you need to weld shut, one of them opened up to the outside frock the back of the equipment room - a small, narrow room which you can see through the remains of a wide panel window to your left - and the other a heavy bulkhead door, which is directly in front of you. You appear to be alone in the room - you can't see anyone else around, certainly.

Fluffie
Arming the fuse of a flash grenade, you throw it around the corner. After a few moments, you see a flash of white light against the wall of the tower, and hear the accompanying boom - both intended to disorientate. Dashing back around the corner, you level your Mp10 at the two Marines - the two still standing - on your side of the dropship and open fire. They are punched off their feet by a hail of bullets, both falling to the snow very much dead. The snow in front of the dropship has now turned a dark crimson colour from the blood. Your sub machine gun clip expended, you drop back behind the corner, and just before you do you catch a glimpse of two teams of five Rangers running around the noise and tail of the dropship from the side opposite you - where they're apparently been sheltered from the ambush. You hear a grenade exploding from the front side of the tower, but hear no screams, as you are running back toward the rear side of the tower again. Having reloaded your sub machine gun - you now only have two clips for it remaining - you kneel down against the hard-packed snow surrounding the base of the tower and level you the Mp10 at the corner you were just firing from, waiting for the Rangers to come round. Instead of Rangers, however, you get a flash grenade. White light instantly fills your vision, and simultaneously you find yourself deaf from the noise of the detonation. You have to find cover, and quickly - you can vaguely remember which direction the corner to the rear of the tower was in...

"Why oh why didn't I pick up regular grenades this morning?"

*By the sound of more oncomming critters, it was time to leg it. PK therefore did so, running to the left, away from the sounds of pursuit. Every few seconds he checked behind, in case there was something he could shoot at, but most of his attention was focused in front of him, making sure to keep moving and seeing anything in his path that might be dangerous.*

Having another look around quickly just to make sure, lowers and lets it hang from his shoulder. It seemed secure enough so lewis takes his pack of to start setting up the blow torch, satisfied that the feed seemed secure enough and there where no leaks with a quick chekc over the line and blow torch. Reluctantly putting the pack back on to head into the equitment room making a start on after putting on his dark tinted google and lighting the end of the torch. Watching its flame change through various diffrent colours as he turned to valve to allow more gas through, satisifed when it turned into a blueish narrow shaped flame. Working the torch around the outer edge of the door, watching the metal start metal under the intense heat moving onto a new spot when both frame and door combined.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Behind her gasmask Cali grunts at the goo. With a wave she discards the lump of dead flesh from her bayonet and then cleans it off against the leg of her uniform. Looking over the door she notices the heavy marine (correct, right?) who has just arrived. She thinks for a second, but the decides to pretty much ignore him.
With some quick movements she gets out of her own armour and puts the rest of her equipment on the floor. Seeing as this is a crisis (not that it matters terribly much to her) and them being alone with all this stuff, Cali decides to do some shopping.

Light Marine Reinforced Armour
Lighter, more flexible and offering better protection than her own heavier armour: What's not to like about it?

Coms Booster
She takes the time to remove her old radio from her gasmask and replace it with a more reliable boosted version.

Pulse Pistol
She straps the holster onto her belt and stocks up on some clips.

Combat Knife
The very last resort. She straps it to her boot.

Medic Kit
Cali is no medic, but there are plenty of good things in here that are better to have than not to. She removes the blood plasma and any surgical instruments that she obviously can't use to reduce its weight and then puts it in a backpack that she puts on.

Now that she's re-equipped with the basic necessities, she turns to the creature. She picks it up and inspects it.

/OOC: Do tell me if I went too far.

"AAarrrrrr!!!!"

Crazy watched the creature fly from his arm to the steps

"Aarrgg. You little bastard. That really hurt!"

Crazy levels his pulse rifle at the nasty critter and (hopefully) finishs it off with a short burst of fire. If, the critter is dead as dead can be when you've be splattered with a few rounds of explosive ammo, Crazy then decides he doesn't want to hang around much long and legs it up the stairs.

The red creatures, which are insect-like in appearance, appear to have dragged them there, as long blood stains running right the way across the floor of the room toward the pile would indicate. There are very large red creatures prowling the room, seemingly aimlessly, about the size of dogs with powerful-looking mandibles at their fronts, and viciously sharp front limbs, some of which are stained with blood. Smaller red creatures, about the size of a man's hand outstretched, are scurrying back and forth from the pile of corpses in the centre and the double doors on the wall opposite you, which are open, stripping flesh from the corpses and then carrying with them, out of sight into the corridor beyond. As you watch, one of the larger creatures spots you. It scutters forwards and emits a series of piercing shrieks. The other large creatures turn to face you - the smaller ones apparently ignore you, continuing about their macabre task. Presently, one of the larger creatures begins running toward you at incredible speed, and the others follow. There are six in all...
Wraith slows to a halt at the macabre sight before him... His eyes scan the room, resting only briefly on the pile of bodies before moving on to the only-slightly less nauseating sight of the beast-hounds, which by this time were all staring at him.
Suddenly, the closest hound creature snarls and charged toward him with its fangs bared. Wraith instinctively squeezes down hard on the trigger of his minigun, spitting bullets towards the closest of the creatures. Wary of his weapon's immense ammo consumptions, he releases the trigger after barely half a second of concentrated fire, and swings his weapon around in an arc towards the other enemies. As he whips his weapon across the room, he squeezes the trigger in bursts as his aim passes across another hound, then letting up as he pans across the open room between hounds, praying he can take down most of the creatures in this manner before they reach him...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

DMing begins for the day - December 24th, 2004
Oh shit, Rangers!

demiGOD
That's more like it.

Grabbing a fire extinguisher, you rush out to the generator room, but it soon becomes apparent that there's little you can do for it. The entire length of the generator is on fire, and one part of it appears to have exploded outwards. Deciding that your purpose in the vicinity of the room was long since defunct, you heard out back to the main corridor. Running through the open double doors, you come face to face with a pair of Marines wearing Biological Warfare Division unit badges, and gas masks. For a second or two, both of you just stare at eachother, then-

"One of the guards!" Shouts one of the Bio Marines through the external speakers of his gas mask. "Kill him!" The Bio Marine starts to bring up his pulse rifle, as does his companion...

PK
Deciding that the time for bravery is gone, you turn and run away from the unseen mass of creatures apparently tearing toward you across the floor of the corridor. You keep your eyes open, though there's nothing in the way that you can see. Every now and then though, you do see a bloodstain. You come up to a four way intersection. There is a double door directly in front of you, with a plaque on the wall above it reading "Storage" - the huge warehouse room containing supplies for the entire base. To your left is solid wall, to your right is another length of corridor. Straining your ears, you can hear the scrreching and scuttling coming from the right corridor, as well as from behind you...

Darkling
Durasteel is high-temperature stuff, but you gradually make your way around the edge of the door with the blowtorch, watching the metal fuse into one. Within a few minutes of uninterrupted welding, you are finished with the one door, and you make your way over to the second door. At this moment, however, the world explodes around you.

You find yourself staring at the cieling. Your ears are ringing, and you're generally feeling a bit sore. Staring at the cieling as you are, you notice that there's a large hole in it, through which you can see the sky of Novagorsk. You can hea rsometihng else, too, becoming gradually more apparent as the ringing in your ears fades. The roar of...dropship engines?

Dunin
With the critter that attacked you soundly dead, you pointedly ignore the Heavy Marine (Bakan) who came rushing into the room, and instead turn to the more important things; name weaponry. Taking a Light Marine coms booster, a Light Marine reinforced armoured vest, a pulse pistol, a combat knife (which is probably needless, as you already looted a sword bayonet) and a med kit - from which you end up removing almost all of the supplies, being unqualified to use them, leaving battle dressings and bandages - you then turn to the creature lying dead on the floor, and take a look at it. A lot of it is covered by the purple blood - but beneath that you see that it has an exoskeleton of purple carapace. It has four limbs, the back two powerful-looking, made for jumping, and the frotn two ending in razor sharp claws. On its round head, which protrudes from its main body at the front, are a pair of powerful-looking jaws which, on closer inspection, are coated in dried blood. Apparently, it had been munching on humans before now. It was unlike anything you'd ever seen before, and you distinctly remembered one of the scientists telling you that there was no native fauna on Novagorsk beyond a few pathetic microbes living at the bottom of the darkest ocean beneath the miles-thick layers of ice, clustered around volcanic vent openings. He had seemed interested in those microbes for some reason, though...At about this time, the sound of an explosion echoing through the corridor behind you disturbs your train of thought.

Crazy
None too happy that the purple critter cut your beautiful arm, you level the muzzle of your pulse rifle at it and open up with a burst of fire that destroys it utterly. It explodes in a shower of purple blood, some of which coats your armoured vest. This was evidently a dangerous place to be - you decide to carry on legging it up the stairs. You continue climbing, largely uninterrupted, untill you reach first underground - above you is the ground floor of the research facility. Suddenly, you hear the sound of an explosion coming from up above - a large explosion. A piece of shrapnel clatters down the steps above you, skittering to a halt on your own level. You were a veteran of many battles, and you recognised starship ordnance exploding when you heard it...

Wraith
One of the larger red creatures, which are the size of small dogs, but look more like ants, charges at the muzzle of your minigun, and soon realises its mistake as it is obliterated by a storm of pulse rounds. You begin to traverse back and forth across the room - just like you'd been taught in training, though training seemed distant at the moment - spraying fire at anything that came in front of the pulse minigun's muzzle. The larger red creatures, which are charging at you, are all obliterated in short order, leaving you in the room alone with the smaller red creatures and the corpses. As you watch, a new red creature scurries onto the scene. It is the same size as the larger red ones, but without the razor sharp limbs or powerful jaws, and it is also a lot rounder. It stops in the doorway, looking around the room, then fizes its eyes on you, and emits a high-pitched screeching noise. The smaller red creatures immediately begin scuttling back toward the doorway - the one that apparently gave the order having already fled...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Wraith winces slightly at the ear-splitting shriek, even as he turns to face the newcomer. Hoever, almost as soon as it had appeared, it scurried back through the door, swiftly followed by the little critters. Wraith reacts quickly, aiming his minigun towards the door they are scuttling through, firing several rounds at the floor in the hopes of taking some of them down.

When the room is finally empty, Wraith flicks off his minigun and swiftly sets about changing the ammo belt for a fresh loadout. This done, he strides over to investigate the room, starting with the pile of bodies, all the while warily checking the entrances for any reinforcements...

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

The whole confusion of the moment causing him to stare dumbfounded, his attantion snapping back to reality just as hard as that explsion. Scrambling up not really wanting to be under a hole that troops could drop through, backing off into the corridor. Pulse rifle rasied as the ringing finally starts to stop, opening a comunication to the captain without a seconds thought.
"This is Corporal Morgan, A hole has been blown in the roof of ground level reserach building. I think I hear the sound of dropship outside, I repeat A hole has been blown in the roof of the ground level reserach building possible troop deployment zone."
Making his way back to the stairways crouching a little out of sight hoping his voice sounded urgent enough. Rasing the pulse rifle so that it was aimed at the only doorway out of the small room, raising the welding googles from over his eyes to get a clearer image. Reaching back to turn of the still lite blowtorch off clipping it lously onto his pack.

Taking a granade and palcing it by him, Lewis waits with a strange sense of anticipation and also disgust and contempt at himself for almost seeming to enjoy this.

Crazy hesitates on the stairs. He could leg it to the top, where the explosion had just come from and find out whats going on, or he could ran... Nah. He couldn't ignore this. He just had to go and check it out. It wasn't every day that a starship shot at your base. You just never know. It could turn out to be fun. Crazy dropped the nearly empty clip from his assault rifle, slipped a fresh new one in, pulled back the hammer, loading the first round into the chamber and cocking the gun. He loaded his remaining grenade into the launcher, and then started carefully making his way to the top of the stairs to investigate the hooge explosion.

"Alright men, time for a quick pit stop. Let's head to the Armory, and grab whatever equipment we can, before someone beats us to it." Jake says, altering his course to go from towards the stairwell, and instead down the corridor to the Armory. (I'm assuming it's nearby on the same floor if you bothered to mention it. ) "Keep an eye out for more of those b*stards." He says calmly as he moves to the Armory door.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Wraith
You load a new belt of pulse rounds into your minigun, and then set about looking the room over. Apart from blood, corpses with flesh missing and upturned tables and chairs, there isn't a whole lot to see. You do spot the mutilated corpse of a fellow Heavy Marine slumped in one corner of the room. You'd all been posted to your guard positions without weapons or equipment, due to Heavy Marine equipment being so cumbersome and bulky, and so this man had probably been helpless when the things came. You do keep checking for reinforcements, but none are forthcoming. You do, however, continue to hear screeching from the corridor outside. Then, suddenly, you hear screaming. One man, one woman, both sounding terrified, from the corridor that the red critters scurried into. From the sound of it, both of them are moving.

Darkling
The boosted coms unit gets through to HQ without interference.

"We've got them coming through the roof of the Marine Barracks as well. The Rangers are making zipline jumps from the dropships, repeat, zipline jumps from the dropships. Prepare for hostiles. Hold your position as long as you can - retreat back to the first underground level if necessary. Do not, repeat, do not allow them to reach the Armoury." And, with that, you're alone again. The Communication Officer's warning of incoming Rangers appears to be correct, because a few seconds later several ropes - ziplines - drop down through the hole in the roof. Just as you reach up to remove your heavy welding glasses, two grenades drop through the roof - flashbangs. Two blinding brilliant flashes of light fail to blind you due to your goggles, which you then remove, but the bangs more-or-less deafen you. You tuck the blowtorch away, just in time to see three Rangers drop down through the roof using the ziplines. All of them carry pulse rifles, all of which are scoped, laser-sighted and silenced. All of them are wearing gas masks and reinforced Light Marine armour. They land crouching on the steel floor, and begin to get up. You hear boots clattering up the concrete steps behind you, presumably reinforcements.

Crazy
Slamming a new clip home and loading a new grenade into the underslung launcher of your pulse rifle, you rush up the stairs toward the ground floor of the complex, where the ezplosion came from. As you round the corner where the stairs fold back in on themselves, you see two flashes throw the wall opposite you - up the last flight of steps and through the open doorway to the floor - into sharp reliefs. Two dull bangs also reach your ears - flashblangs, though at this range their disorientating effects are minimal. Rushing through the doorway, you look right to see a 45th Battalion Engineer (Darkling) Kneeling down against the wall as he puts a blowtorch away. Looking up, you see three Light Marines drop through the gaping hole in the roof - they're coming down on ziplines, and you can hear the roar of a dropship's powerful engines coming through the hole - the Marines land crouching, and then begin to move away from the ends of the line. More will be following them down shortly. All three are wearing gas masks and reinforced Light Marine armour. All three have pulse rifles - fitted with sword bayonets, as well as silencers, scopes and laser sights.

Inspectre
"Yes sir," Says Scarez, falling in behind you and Henley as you run down the corridor toward the Armoury, "I'll watch our backs." The three of you run down the corridor, and reach the Armoury in short order. Through the open doorway in front of you, you again see Corporal Bakan, and also see a female Corporal from one of the Standard Squads who appears to be examining one of the purple critters - which is very much dead. As you reach the door, you hear the sound of an explosion - faint, like it had some distance of corridor to travel through - coming from behind.

Take your pick from the equipment lists on the first page.

"Suit up." Jake mutters, and then goes to work. He doesn't bother saying anything to the other two people in the room, although he does look at the gutted purple critter and the blood-splattered corporal with a bit of a congratulatory smirk on his face. First he graps two more bandoliers of grenades, adding them to the three already riding on his belt. A moment later, and a belt of incindiary grenades is also added. He then goes over to the Standard Marine equipment racks, taking down one of their Assault Shotguns from the shelves. He uses this to replace his Light Marine version of the shotgun, and grunts a little at the extra heaviness of the Standard Marine version. He then goes over to the equipment racks, adding an underslung grenade launcher, a silencer, a scope, and a laser sight to his pulse rifle - one could never have *too* much equipment, afterall. Finally, he takes a pulse pistol down from a line of them along one wall, strapping the weapon around his right thigh, like he saw done in a movie once. He then turns back to see how his own marines are coming, and makes small talk with the other two, assuming they're still in the room. "So, how's your Christmas coming? Merry enough?" he asks with a smirk.

The googles being suprising fortunate peice of item to wear somtimes, grabbing the smoke grenade and throwing it in the direction of the hostiles. Letting of controlled burst from the pulse rifle, first for the legs and kneecaps, followed by a few random shots higher up to try and hit a head or torso or two. The sound of footstep causing Lewis to quickly look around him but keeping the rifle trained forward letting of a few more covering bursts. Adrenaline pumping its way through his system whislt all this was happening making it seem little more than a dream acted on pure instinct and training. Stiring below a dark void growing in size with each long second that passed, as time seemed to slow down to him trying to savour every second more he was alive.

Crazy at the corner, looking into the corridor with a very large hole in the roof. The sound of the dropship filling his ears, he looks around the spies another marine. A friendly for once. Wow, that was a change. Someone that wasn't trying to kill him. However those three marines that just landed with a dull thud probably would, as Crazy spied the three light marines that just decended from the dropship.

Crazy knelt down, and snuck round the corner, using it for cover. He brought his assault rifle up, poking round the corner. Switching it onto 3 shot burst, he lined up with the rear marine, as a smoke grenade bounced into the middle of them and went off. It was also followed by the clatter of an assault rifle. At least the other marine knew how to use his weapon. Crazy didn't hesitate and followed suit, opening up on the nearest marine before he lost sight of them in the big cloud of smoke.

*Seeing the creature now dead, Incom kicks it a few times, then walks over to the charging units for the Reinforced Cybernetic Armour. Typically they were put on by some technicians, though all Heavyu Marines were trained to put them on themselves in times of crisis. Hearing the one other Marine (Inspectre) make a comment, Incom grumbles slightly.*

"Ah yes, under attack by aliens on X-mas eve, gotta love it no?"

*Finishing putting on the armor, Incom grabs all the ammo he possibly can for his Pulse Minigun, and then grabs the gun and starts feeding the ammo into it.*

Alexander decides to break cover and runs towrad to the door at full speed. In his head he is repeating the song he sang to himself in basic traning when every thousandth bullet used in traning was real. As he neared the door it moved from humming to out right singing of the song.

"Don't Die, Don't Die, Don't Die, Don't Die, Don't Die, Don't Die."

Alexander eached the door with out event, quickly he ducked inside the tower knowing it wasn't going to be pretty.

/OOC: Merry Christmas, fools!

Cali turns her gasmasked head as the three now people came in. Crap: First she spent half the day alone, and now the whole sorority group were gathering. She doesn't feel like talking to any of the men, however, but focuses on refilling her belts with shotgun shells.
Then an explosion sounds through the halways and Cali is reminded of her duty. She moves to the open door and stays there, scouting left and right for trouble. She'd been told to guard the armoury and that was what she was going to do - unless she and her allies had nearly emptied it; then it might be time to consider other options, such as sticking together.

****, ****, **** **** **** **** **** ****!

Fluffie quickly turned about, leaning with one hand against the wall, quickly trying to find his way back to the rear of the tower again. Some cover should buy him some time, precious time to regain his hearing and vision. Cursing some more inside his head, he blindly pulls a frag grenade from out of his combat webbing underneath the coat. Pulling the safety pin out and tossing the grenade around the corner, Fluffie gets down and tries to cover himself from any blast, while at the same time focussing entirely on getting at least his sight back.

After what accordingly to his counting must've meant the grenade exploded, Fluffie starts making his way away from the corner, half expecting the invading Marines to send in some more bouncy balls of death of their own... As he does, he equips his Rifle instead of his Mp10, with the thought of conserving it's ammo for later on. Also, when he regains sight/hearing, Mr. Fluffie gets up into a crouched position, already half shielding his eyes in case he notices another grenade bouncing around the corner.

He was preparing himself for another, hopefully final (for the time being) encounter with these dropship Marines...

The door to storage slams shut behind you. It is pitch black inside storage - none of the lights appear to be on. You activate thermal imaging, throwing the room into green-tinted life with a high pitched whirr of electronics. And, suddenly, you find yourself standing face to face with a female scientist. Wearing a white lab coat, her face is pale, and a line of spittle runs from the corner of her mouth. She appears to be standing in mid air - but on closer inspection you see that she is in fact hanging from a fleshy arm that seems to be somehow meshed to her head. As soon as you make the arm out, it recedes into the darkness, taking the scientist's body with it. More of the room begins to come into view as your thermal imaging unit warms up. You see more bodies, hanging from the fleshy tentacles, a kind of grotesque human mobile. Then, in the centre, you see...it looks like one of the purple critters, except much, much bigger. It appears rooted to the ground in the centre of the storage room. You can see its mouthparts working in and out, and somehow you know it is looking at you. Suddenly, a voice booms inside your head.

Hello, 2nd Lieutenant King, Says the voice, seeming impossibly loud, and despite hearing it clearly you know that the words were not spoken aloud, have you by chance come to join my little...collection? Although it could be your imagination playing tricks on you, the corpses hanging in the air seem to quiver slightly in unison.

Henley and Scarez move quickly. The Sergeant grabs a sub machine gun to match his pule rifle, as well as a single pistol which he straps to his hip. He takes a silencer, a laser sight, and a scope for his pulse rifle, though you notice he doesn't take an underslung grenade launcher. Once you have strapped all of your accessories on, it quickly becomes apparent why - the gun is very heavy at the muzzle with the underslung launcher on as well, to the point where it requires great effort to aim steadily. Scarez also takes a silencer, laser site and scope, and a pulse pistol, and also strapped on reinforced Light Marine armour, the same as Henley's. Both then load up on HE grenades and flashbangs - said to be a Light Marine's weapon of choice. You make some kind of humourous remark about Christmas. Scarez grins, though he looks back through the door of the Armoury at the corridor beyond anxiously as he does so, wheras Henley's reply is to slam a new clip home into his pulse rifle and then remark:

"Christmas came a day early this year, sir." And then throw the old clip to the floor.

Darkling/Crazy
Corporal Morgan throws a smoke grenade into the centre of the Light Marines' landing point just as Corporal Crazy opens fire with his pulse rifle, Morgan following suit soon after. Each of you kill one of the Rangers, the first kneecapped by one of Morgan's bullets and then finished off by a pulse round to the head, the second punched off his feet by a three round burst to the chest from Crazy. The third Marine jumps backwards, vanishing into the smoke, and a second later you see the red line of a laser sight beam cutting through the grey-laden air. Three pulse rounds impact on the wall above Morgan's head, but at this point the Ranger apparently decides that trying to hit is a waste of time through the smoke. You hear his voice boom through the external speakers of his gas mask as he radios back to the rest of the squad.

"Warning, hot dropzone, repeat, hostiles at the dropzone," He says, "advise flash and clear." By way of reply, you hear the sound of two grenades falling through the hole into the roof onto the floor at the centre of the room. They go off - the flash is dissapated slightly by the smoke, but your vision is still bleary from it. The bangs deafen you both. Suddenly, both of you see another grenade bounce across the floor toward you - but this one is high explosive. At precisely this moment, three more Rangers land in the centre of the room. This would probably be a good time for a tactical withdrawal. The doorway is open and right behind you - you should have enough time to both leap through before the grenade detonates.

Strapping on your armour takes longer without any other Heavy Marines to help you, but eventually you are fully suited. You grab a pulse minigun, feeling a lot more secure now that you're holding it in your hands, and make some kind of wry remark about aliens on Christmas Eve. On suiting up, you hear the sound of an explosion echoing through the corridor from behind, faint as though far off. The female Standard Marine in the room moves over to the doorway, assault shotgun ready, and begins scanning it back and forth. She apparently had orders to guard the Armoury, and had no intention of moving. The choice is now yours, you can either try and make your way back down to the Office, or you can hook up with the Light Marines and see what they do.

Mao
You break cover and dash across the snow toward the tower, which you reach after around ten seconds. Panting from exertion, you walk inside. There is a large blood stain on the wall immediately to the right of the door. You can't see anyone inside. Noone had fired during the dash, let alone at you. You dimly remembered something about every thousandth bullet in training being live, but quickly remembered this was just a myth circulated by older recruits to scare rookies.

Dunin
The three Light Marines add accessories to their pulse rifles at the same time as the Heavy Marine pulls on his armour and grabs a pulse minigun. You hear the faint sound of the explosion coming down the corridor, and move to the door. Leaning around it, you scan your shotgun left and right - you'd been ordered to guard the Armoury, and that was your post. A good soldier stuck to her post. You hear the Marines in the Armoury behind you exchanging glib remarks about it being a Merry Christmas or such - you aren't really listening to them.

Fluffie
Scrambling back around the corner of the tower's wall, you flatten yourself against the other side of it, and fumble at your grenade belt for a high explosive. Feeling one in your hand, you pull it from its strap and pull the pin, before throwing it around the corner. It explodes, and you hear a scream of pain and feel a rush of air past you, followed by the sound of something hitting the snow. Your sight and hearing are beginning to return now. Sidestepping around the corner, you see one Light Marine curled up on the snow, which is turning crimson around him, and three more coming toward you. Crouching, you fire on full automatic, and the front Light Marine is punched off his feet, obviously dead. The other two flatten themselves against the wall, and return fire. You duck back around the corner to avoid it, and at this point feel a dull pain in your side. Looking down, you see a hole in your reinforced armour. Luckily, you can't see any flesh through it, but it still hurts. This whole thing was getting to be too much like a last stand for your liking. You can almost hear the inspiring strains of a heroic classical score playing in the background as the crunch of combat boots on hard-packed snow from around the corner sounds across the ever-present roar of the dropship's engines.

*Checking over the suit readouts, Incom smiled as they all showed in the green. The arm wound was now a dull throbbing pain, but at least the bleeding had stopped. Grabbing the pulse minigun, he checked it over, and nodded under his helmet that it seemed to be in normal working order. Seeing that at least one fellow marine was staying behind, and the others were loading up for what appeared to be a nice little hunting expidition, Incom throught about his mission. Hearing the explosions, Incom makes up his mind and walks over to the apparent leader of the small squad (Inspectre).*

"Corporal Incom Morgan sir. Request permission to join with your unit."

Not much happening, it seems. Lowering her weapon, Cali tries to contact HQ again.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

"Ah, d*mnit." Jake grumbles as he attempts to heft his pulse rifle. The front was obviously too heavy, and with great reluctance Jake carefully removes the underslung grenade launcher and replaces it on the rack. "No merry Christmas for me, it seems." he mumbles, then turns to look at his men. "Alright, we got what we came for. Let's get out of here." He is stopped when the Heavy Marine, Coproral Morgan, now fully suited up, stomped over to him. The corporal says something about wanting to tag along, and Jake smiles. "If you think you can keep up with the likes of us, sure . . . we could use the firepower, especially where we're going. Come on, it's f***ing crazy out there . . . we're better off together. Let's move out!" Jake then moves towards the door, and sees that the Standard Marine was checking the corridor. "Is the corridor clear, corporal?" Jake asks, while checking to ensure all the new additions to his pulse rifle were working correctly, and that the fresh clip was in place and ready to fire.

Re: ND's Christmas Surprise

Fluffie smacked the wound with his fist, undoubtedly causing him even more pain, but he does it nonetheless. He wasn't a happy corporal anymore, he hadn't been for a while now. Jerking out the shrapnel that had embedded itself into his leg earlier as well, he forces himself to keep quiet. Looking up from his tattered lower body, he made sure nothing was coming around that corner. Just two more as far as he could tell...

He threw his Pulse Rifle aside, again, and equipped his trusted SMG. Readying it for combat within an instant, he looks at the corner he's about to pass and smiles. He was no hero... But he sure was getting a dislike for Tower D. Maybe he should go take a look inside that enemy frigate and at the same time tell them how utterly ****ing unhappy he was with them ****ing up this easy posting.

Yeah...

With a silent roar, Fluffie threw himself around the corner, flying, landing and sliding to a stop sidewards, the entire time firing upon the two Marines. Rolling about and facing the other corner as soon as they are dead, he slowly crawls over to the nearest (collection of) dead body(/bodies) and grabs a Pulse Rifle. Getting up into a crouched position again, he grabs some 'nades and takes'em with him as he in a crouched position advances, back towards the dropship, the rifle pressed against his shoulder and ready to fire, the Mp10 once more back on his.. back.
