Anyone know a good history book about the English monarchy?

I know there used to be some history loving types on these forums, not sure if they're still about. I was looking for a recommendation of something to read to gain some info about the history of the British monarchy. It's hard to tell what's decent from Amazon reviews or if there's a classic or anything.

Thanks.

Thanks, although not looking for general information, but detailed history in something like a good book or set of books. Otherwise I'd just rely on wikipedia. Didn't see anything like that there.

I'm afraid I can't help you on this one but it might be helpful to give a bit more information about what you want to look at.

Do you have a particular monarch in mind? What sort of time frame are you looking at? Is this for personal interest?

I am with ASG on this one.

Without knowing the specifics of what Monarch or period of the Monarchy it is hard to give an answer.

My hope was that a quick look through the website would perhaps provide you with some ideas on what you wish to research and then we could be more helpful.

The History of The English (British) Monarchy used to be taught in English Schools as a primary subject, but that is no longer the case.

I have some knowledge of the subject, but it does span over 1300 yrs From Alfred The Great to our Present Queen.
