[Football] This summers hot transfer rumours.
Had an idea whilst at work , along the following lines.
Basically, GD puts forward items in the following format, and at the end of the summer window, we see whos been talking bollocks and whos clearly got contacts on the inside.
For instance
Code:
Player : Didier Drogba
Rumour : Lyon
Source : Pig
Actual Destination : Did Not Move
Alternatively, we could just pick 10 currently rumoured players, and list them in the format :
Code:
Player : Ricardo Carvalho
Destination : Barcelona (JBG) , Inter Milan (Pig) , Benfica (1-X)
Actual Destination : Bristol Rovers
Your thoughts guys?
Update : Current players to be put forward for transfer prediction league
Stilian Petrov (Celtic)
Robert Pires (Arsenal) (Removed : Deal concluded before June 1)
Michael Owen (Newcastle)
Jermaine Defoe (Tottenham)
Ruud Van Nistelrooy (Man Utd)
Andriy Shevchenko (Milan)
Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord)
Edgar Davids (Tottenham)
Solomon Kalou (Ajax)
Milan Baros (Aston Villa)
Joleon Lescott (Wolves)
James Milner (Newcastle)
Eidur Gudjohnsen (Chelsea)
Curtis Davies (WBA)
Steed Malbranque (Fulham)
Jefferson Farfan (PSV)

Re: [Football] This summers hot transfer rumours.
A good idea, if you let us be a little flexible with it.
For example, i predict;
Player : Stillian Petrov
Destination : Bayern Munich
Cost : £5.2million

Re: [Football] This summers hot transfer rumours.
Why would Villareal pay 6mill quid for a player whos contract runs out this summer?
And by the looks of it, Pires will sign a new deal in the next days.

Stupid me.
With the signing of Rosicky, the door is open for Pires to leave.

Yes, stupid you
Indeed, but the rumour goes that Henry forced Wenger, Dein & co to give Pires a 2 year contract in order for him to sign a contract himself.

Apparantly he negotiated a clause in his contract when signing for Newcastle to let Liverpool buy him for £11m. Bear in mind that Newcastle bought him for £16m.
Freddy Shepard is an utter twat.

Im thinking of running it on a 1-X style prediction league basis.
1 Point for Correctly Guessing hes going to move
1 Point for predicting the club hes moving to
1 Point for Getting the transfer fee to within £250k.
Anyone moving on a bosman, obviously, will not be eligible for the last point.
If everyones up for it, ill speak to 1-X and see if we can get the spreadsheets he uses for the prediction league to set it up.
In the remainder of this thread, give me an idea of who you want to predict. Those already listed (Petrov/Pires/Horse/Sheva etc) will already be in.
Basically, its the first 25 HIGH PROFILE players whos transfer has NOT already been confirmed who will be chosen. This means if you know that Eddie Malone is moving from Clyde to Watford for £100k, youre getting less points than Sunderland in this league.

Mine wa a serious prediction. Barca didnt get Henry so they'll try for the next best striker from the premiership.

Ten Cate was on Dutch TV yesterday, as guest in some football-talkshow. he stated clearly that he wants Davids badly.
he knows the club, has the experience to drag the young Ajax-team to a higher level (together with Stam, who is also coming), has a Suriname-background like Ten Cate has* and posesses the killer-mentality that the average Ajax player lacks (for that reason his nickname here was 'Edje Pitbull').
if Spurs realises how desperately Ajax needs him, they can get far more money out of it than you'd expect.
*which is a big deal here. i don't expect you to understand this one, so will explain if needed.

Re: [Football] This summers hot transfer rumours.
i'm interested, explain.
On top of this, i dont know how much desire davids has to return - hes fairly settled in england, and might think he still has challenges left with a very good tottenham side before retiring with ajax at the very end of his year. Im also not convinced hes got more than 1 year on his contract with spurs, can anyone confirm this? If so, he'd deffo not be 5.2 mio.

Re: [Football] This summers hot transfer rumours.
Once weve got 25 player suggestions, ill list them in a spreadsheet , and we can get going with this.
Predictions to be in by June 1 to start the game, predictions end on August 1.
PS : Im not accepting Mattieu Berson or Michael Bridges. Joleon Lescott only because hes considered one of the top prospects in the country. Milner I was debating but hes been regularly playing in the EPL now for more than 3 years so hes eligible.

many famous Dutch footballplayers (Gullit, Rijkaard, Seedorf, Kluivert, Winter, Menzo for example) have Surinam roots. to illustrate how this feeling still lives: every year the winner of the dutch 2nd league plays a match against (ex) Surinam footballprofs. it doesn't matter if they play at Barca, Milan, or retired 10 years ago, not a single player cancels the invitation.
and maybe you've once heard of 'the cable'* incident, at the EC 1996. Davids was then expelled from the team. it caused a big riot and a valley between the 'native Dutch players' and the 'Surinam-guys'.
to summarise it all: the Surinam guys still feel strongly connected to each other. and to a guy like Davids, it must mean something that Ten Cate will be in charge next season.
*'the cable' consisted out of Davids, Seedorf, Reiziger and Kluivert. the group of young Surinam players that just won the WC with Ajax. their ego and 'groupspirit' reached the moon at that point.

Sorry , not counting the Cameron Jerome transfer, its occurring outside the top leagues now that Brum have been relegated.

theres a number of rumours flying about up here that defoe is gonna sign for the skunks. No idea what the price will be though.
Ben Alnwick to Spurs is another one for somewhere in the region of £1mil

If youre going to quote transfers like that , name the selling club.

Re: [Football] This summers hot transfer rumours.
Probably because Abramovich wrote his speech for him.
Or the kid was born with some revolutionary genetic condition whereby he somehow only speaks and understands English despite never having come into contact with the language.
I'd hedge my bets towards the former.
