Nice article! Brings back memories of my first column writing days.... all those years ago *sigh*
After Tuba, I'd recommend a bigger alliance. Try interviewing Ely, or Titans. Your work is high enough quality to attract both alliances a great deal of attention.
/me eagerly awaits the next publication

Who's bright idea was it to give RIT a portal column? Surely its now only a matter of time before he does a "Top 10 Reasons why Maddix is Scum" article
In all seriousness tho, good article...the portal needs a good kick in the pants to get more people reading it. People that actually know whats going on in the current game is a huge improvement. No offence to those past and present on the portal but rarely has there been much that I personally deemed worth reading.

7 HC means there's always at least 3-4 HC online at any given time. The benefits of this are fairly obvious.

You just have to wait for the other 3-4 to get online to decide/discuss anything.

Certainly, thats one of the benifits Cochese, but also remember that having 7 hc, means having 7 opinions and decision makers, which isn't an issue, if all 7 have commendable communication skills, indeed if that is the case its another benifit.

Hardly. Anything the online HC discuss gets posted on the website so when the other HC come online, they can read up.
If something needs immediate descision, they take action. If we didn't trust each other's judgment, we wouldn't have 7 HC's.
Seems like common sense...

It's really a great situation, kind of like a knights of the round table type deal, without a King Arthur. Since there is no undisputed leader it is almost like a senate everyone gets their fair say. I enjoy being apart of it, and I don't see myself anywhere else for the remainder of my PA career.
I've seen alliances with 5 HC and that works out fine, I've also seen alliances with 3 or even less and that rarely works as there is no way 3 people can cover 24hrs. 5 HC will do the job, 7 will do it better and with less strain on each individual. That way each individual HC will have more time to do other things. Since Madcows isn't just about playing Planetarion, some HC will do other things with their members, like playing other games. I've already organized a chess tournament for a free r9 account. We have had various risk matches, CS playoffs, monopoly games. What other alliance does this? Usually they don't because the HC does not have the time to do these things. With more people having a say it also adds even more to our community aspect. We spend time with our members getting to know each and everyone of them. What other alliance does this? Don't knock it, til you've tried it Scouse

Oi. I'm not being nasty.
I just think 7 HC is a tad too many.

They don't need to cover 24 hrs. That's why you have command members.
In my experience having 2 or 3 HC has always worked well. As long as they are good, active HC who do their share. Ofc, this requires a lot of effort since being HC of any alliance, including small ones, is tremendously hard work.

The downfalls are equally obvious with 7. (It's called a committee and generally can't make a decision to save it's own life)

3 or 7 is not make or break for a High Command though. It's just yet another obstacle.

Sure, with 7 people who all have their own agendas and ego trips.
Our system obviously works for us, as we've had no problems making descisions. Marvelous what a group of 7 great friends can do.

Well nothing personal, but their system is much better than NoS's (basically, a glorified dictatorship).
Face the facts, due to your recent downtime (which thankfully has been nothing too serious), NoS's ability to make decisions has been seriously impaired. True, things get done when you are around, but when you aren't there, things tend to stagnate. I heard some good news though... that the command team is becoming more independent and willing to step-up in your absense. Good for them, and good for NoS.
PS: The more I think about it, moving to the "business" model for the NoS command team was probably a bad idea. I wish I would have exerted more influence, what little I had, on the issue.
