this board has never been democratic.

p.s. there is actually an option that i could turn on which allows people to 'opt out' of the reputation system should they so wish. However you can still rep these people its just that their reputation isnt displayed and the comments are hidden until they turn it back on.

Is there no chance of turning it off on a selected forums, or maybe splitting rep so that we have a "GD Rep - and maybe throw RP into it too" and then the current rep for the other forums. That way if people here want to continue repping in the GD way then they can but it also wont effect peoples serious rep on other forums where it matters more than it does here

I don't mind the current system (though I'd prefer accountable rep given the choice) and I also think this option you have for individuals to turn it off should be implemented for those that want it (then perhaps they'll shut up going on about it).

Recalibration so that everyone isn't on "full blobs" would be welcome too, eg. 20000 for 11 (though I realise this is unlikely as you have to consider the other boards)

The only thing Vbulletin allows you to turn on/off in terms of 'rating' things is the rating of threads. I checked and seemingly there is no real way apart from creating seperate usergroups and if i did that i might as well just turn on the option of 'allow user to select whether they use rep or not' because fundamentally it would be the same thing.

I'd like to retain the comments others make about my posts, but scrap anonymity and the numerical rating system. Without the last two people may be disuaded from making personal attacks* over reputation as 1. there would be no effect in them doing so and 2. they would soon become known for doing as much. In any case, a system which effectively rates users on a numerical scale is made a farce of by 'ironic repping' and users repping people over posts.




*By personal attacks, I don't mean criticism relating to the post, or even the poster in general, but, for example, neg repping for wishing another a happy birthday with the justification that that user is a 'twat'.

why not just increase them even more, as it stands, the rep system means nothing on this board, due to the fact that you can get to the top amount of blobs very easily, and i imagine that this is the case on the other boards as well. So, by upping the limits even more you might do everyone a favour, as i know that i dont know which comment is better than which other comment and i imagine that a lot of people don't hover over the blobs to look at the comments anyway

oh, and turning on the 'opt out' feature would be nice

yes, instead of using 10,000 as a limit, let's make it 1,000,000,000,000,000. That way we'll all have one green (or red) blob.

The problem is your all acting as if GD is the only board on this forum. Yes the rep system is pretty pointless on here because you lot are all in a little cliche with people you like and people you dont and as such you give rep based on that. People on this forum hand out pos rep for the shittest of posts and hand out neg rep for the most petty of things and there does seem to be a "you give me rep i'll rep you back" cluture on here also.

Theres really very few really 'quality' posts on here (most are very in jokey, closed conversations that quickly develop into sillyness, insults and off the cuff remarks) yet its people whom almost soley reside on GD that hold the majority of the top rep position and thats because of the differnt of attitudes to the other forums. If you dont come here often and your face doesnt fit here you wont get a decent rep level easierly from the other forums yet as these are forums for "PLANETARION" its the "PLANETARION BASED" forums where the rep system has the most impact and we shouldnt just make all none GD posters seem insignificant and shit to fit in with GD's slap each other on the back attitude

The statementy may tar everyone with the same brush BUT it is largely true. The GD community is very much a clique where often the quality of a post doesnt matter but your status in the group does as does your ability to put down 'outsiders' and those of lower standing. I entirely disagree. If you come in posting shit and posting lots of it people will mentally categorise you as an imbecile unworthy of attention. If you come in posting sensibly you'll be accepted fairly easily. This whole GD is a clique thing is insanely wrong. Not to sound egotistical or anything but I think I'd know if we all sat in some corner talking about circle repping each other or whatever. It's worse than those stupid posts which assume mods just sit there planning how to make the boards a more ****ed up place just to enjoy themselves. There's no conspiracy, people just don't like shit posts.

i think it has to do with the daily activity of most GD posters as well. On AD or other PA related parts of the boards you will find only very few posters that post daily and more than 1 time in a thread and even less who create own threads as well ( Sometimes because there is just nothing going on alliance wise like the last weeks of r14 where AD was about dead).

GD creates a lot more threads and posts and for that probably more rep as well - that combined with the higher rep level because of more posts per user leads to super rep users quickly
(there are not many 1000+ post users on AD for example)

to suggestion on the Suggestions forum I would have certainly received neg rep for it BUT I'm willing to bet the rep you got from these was positive. And theres alot of people with many green blobs whom all over the first page have posts of a simerlar vein whom I'm sure werent neg repped. This is the way GD is and always has been, elsewhere your posts would be seen as shit and spam (as we saw when GDers invaded Jolts forums) but here they are held in highish regard as they are seen as "funny" even if they arent relevent and hey thats fine BUT you can hardly use GD as a template for deciding the rep system settings when this is the case as its simply not a normal forum
