[Browser stuff] IE 7 Beta out for public download.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...aredirect.mspx
And they said they would never again create a new stand alone browser! FF FTW!
I'm installing it and it's making me validate (again) my windows. Oh bother. Please don't make me restart my computer. EDIT: yes have to restart FFS.
Also the SeaMonkey 1.0 suite (formely known as the Mozilla Applications Suite (or something)) is now out.

Re: [Browser stuff] IE 7 Beta out for public download.
From a brief look at the website it looks like IE6 + tabs. I dont see the point really.
edit: holy shit that user interface looks abysmal

Re: [Browser stuff] IE 7 Beta out for public download.
Here's my screenshot
One good thing I noticed right away is that 'full screen' really means full screen now. F11. All you see is the web page (except for a tiny status bar on the bottom and a scroll bar on the right), the tool bar slides away on the top.

Skiddy told me about this like two months ago.
It's pretty neat.

IE 7 has been out for developers for sometime now, this is the public release. Some people hat bittorrents to the buggy nonpublic betas. This is different. ;|

A way to have several web pages open in one browser window. Keeps your taskbar nice and clean, remembers what tabs you had open in case of a crash, some other benefits too.

Re: [Browser stuff] IE 7 Beta out for public download.
anyone discovered improvements to it from the point of view of a developer?
The last that I heard was that almost none of the rendering problems had been fixed (box-model etc.), but that a lot of popular 'patches' (hacks...) would no longer work....will have to download and start testing at work tomorrow :|

Re: [Browser stuff] IE 7 Beta out for public download.
Just downloaded it, it looks quite fresh and is a bit like ie6 with tabs, its ok but tbh ff and opera are better. By far. THe problem is you could convert people previously to say ff or opera because of the unique tabbing, however now ms has it im sure they are going to claw back at the browser market. Personally though im going to stay with FF.

Strangely enough, those buggy nonpublic betas work.

I didn't say they didn't work, I said they were buggy (and unstable according to a developer I know).

Yeah, IE 7 looks like an improvement, but with all the extensions I have with FF it's unlikely that I'd ever switch back.

Re: [Browser stuff] IE 7 Beta out for public download.
The refresh button placement on it is terrible, I couldn't find it when I needed it; had to look for a bit, and the Yahoo login page breaks in IE7 (especially on the calendar page). :/

It renders alpha channels correctly, where IE6 and below renders them with a fully opaque white background. That's all I can remember off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are more.
