Water > Soft Drinks

Top 10 Reasons To Consume Water Instead Of Soft Drinks!

Soft drinks steal water from the body. They work very much like a diuretic which takes away more water than it provides to the body. Just to process the high levels of sugar in soft drinks steals a considerable amount of water from the body.
To replace the water stolen by soft drinks, you need to drink 8-12 glasses of water for every one glass of soft drinks that you consume!

Soft Drinks never quench your thirst, certainly not your body's need for water. Constantly denying your body an adequate amount can lead to Chronic Cellular Dehydration, a condition that weakens your body at the cellular level. This, in turn, can lead to a weakened immune system and a plethora of diseases.

The elevated levels of phosphates in soft drinks leach vital minerals from your body. Soft Drinks are made with purified water that also leach vital minerals from your body. A severe lack of minerals can lead to Heart Disease (lack of magnesium), Osteoporosis (lack of calcium) and many other diseases. Most vitamins can not perform their function in the body without the presence of minerals.

Soft Drinks can remove rust from a car bumper or other metal surfaces. Imagine what it's doing to your digestive tract as well as the rest of your body.

The high amounts of sugar in Soft Drinks causes your pancreas to produce an abundance of insulin, which leads to a "sugar crash". Chronic elevation and depletion of sugar and insulin can lead to diabetes and other imbalance related diseases. This is particularly disruptive to growing children which can lead to life-long health problems.

Soft Drinks severely interfere with digestion. Caffeine and high amounts of sugar virtually shut down the digestive process. That means your body is essentially taking in NO nutrients from the food you may have just eaten, even that eaten hours earlier.
Consumed with french-fries which can take WEEKS to digest, there is arguably nothing worse a person can put in their body.

Diet soft drinks contain Aspartame, which has been linked to depression, insomnia, neurological disease and a plethora of other illness. The FDA has received more than 10,000 consumer complaints about Aspartame, that's 80% of all complaints about food additives.

Soft Drinks are EXTREMELY acidic, so much so that they can eat through the liner of an aluminum can and leach aluminum from the can if it sits on the shelf too long. Alzheimer patients who have been autopsied ALL have high levels of aluminum in their brains. Heavy metals in the body can lead to many neurological and other diseases.

Soft Drinks are EXTREMELY acidic: The human body naturally exists at a pH of about 7.0. Soft Drinks have a pH of about 2.5, which means you are putting something into your body that is hundred of thousands of times more acidic that your body is!
Diseases flourish in an acidic environment. Soft Drinks and other acidic food deposit acid waste in the body which accumulates over time in the joints and around the organs.

For example, the Body pH of cancer or arthritis patients are always low. The sicker the person, the lower the Body pH.

Soft Drinks are the WORSE THING you can possibly put in your body. Don't even think of taking a sip of a Soft Drink when you are sick with a cold, flu or something worse. It will only make it that much harder for your body to fight the illness.

========================== Part 2 ================================

Water: The Miracle Supplement - Guide Most people do not realize how important drinking a lot of water is, yes, I said water, not liquids. Water is the grand daddy of all supplements and the benefits it has on your body are endless. So put down that damn coke can and find out why you should drink some more of that H20 and not all that other crap.
____________________________________________________

Water and Weightloss:

Among it's other benefits, water plays a major part in weight loss. Since water contains no calories, it can serve as an appetite suppressant, and helps the body metabolize stored fat, it may possibly be one of the most significant factors in losing weight.

Drinking more water helps to reduce water retention by stimulating your kidneys. Studies have recommended that if you are overweight according to average height and weight comparison charts, you should add one glass of water to your daily requirement (of eight glasses) for every 25 pounds over your recommended weight.

Dehydration leads to excess body fat, poor muscle tone & size, decreased digestive efficiency & organ function, increased toxicity, joint & muscle soreness, & water retention. Water works to keep muscles and skin toned.

If you're not drinking sufficient water, your body starts retaining water to compensate for this shortage. To eliminate fluid retention, drink more water, not less. If you don't drink enough water to maintain your body's fluid balance, you can impair every aspect of your body's physiological function.
____________________________________________________

Health Issues:

Water can be a miracle cure for many common ailments such as headaches, fatigue, joint pain, and much more.

Too little water, and your body steals it from organs such as the colon. When this happens, you experience constipation.

Water plays a vital role in nearly every bodily function. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. A 2% drop in body water can cause fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Consistent failure to drink enough water can lead to Chronic Cellular Dehydration. This condition where the body's cell are never quite hydrated enough leave them in a weakened state, vulnerable to attack from disease. It weakens the body's overall immune system and leads to chemical, nutritional and pH imbalances that can cause a host of diseases.
____________________________________________________

Water Loss:

Adults lose nearly 6 pints (12 cups) of water every day. We lose 1/2 cup to 1 cup a day from the soles of our feet. Another 2 to 4 cups is lost from breathing. Perspiration accounts for another 2 cups. Another 3 pints (6 cups) are lost in urine.
____________________________________________________

Joints:

Water lubricates our joints. The cartilage tissues found at the ends of long bones and between the vertebrae of the spine hold a lot of water, which serves as a lubricant during the movement of the joint. Joint pain frequently decreases with increased water intake and flexing exercises to bring more circulation to the joints.
____________________________________________________

Back:

75% of the upper body weight is supported by the water volume that is stored in the spinal disc core. 25% is supported by the fibrous materials around the disc. Back pain is frequently alleviated with hydration.
____________________________________________________

Body:

The body is comprised of 80% water. Water makes up 85 percent of your brain, 80 percent of your blood and 70 percent of your lean muscle.

It's difficult for the body to get water from any other source than water itself. Soft drinks and alcohol steal large amounts of water from the body. Beverages such as coffee and tea are diuretics and also steal water from the body.
____________________________________________________

Digestion:

Water is essential for proper digestion, nutrient absorption and chemical reactions. The carbohydrates and proteins that our bodies use as food are metabolized and transported by water in the bloodstream.
____________________________________________________

Circulation:

Water is essential for proper circulation in the body. The levels of oxygen in the bloodstream are greater when the body is well hydrated. The more oxygen the body has readily available the more fat it will burn for energy without the presence of oxygen the body cannot utilize stored fat for energy efficiently. Not only will the body burn more fat when hydrated, but because there are increased oxygen levels you will also have more energy.
____________________________________________________

Removing Waste:

Water helps remove toxins from the body, in particular from the digestive tract. Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. That's right, want to lose some fat? Drink more water. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it's often mistaken for hunger. One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
____________________________________________________

Regulating Body Temperature:

Water regulates the body's cooling system. Most experts agree that water works better than sports drinks for moderate exercise. For instance, if you drink 12 ounces of plain water, your body will absorb 8 ounces of it within 15 minutes. If you drink 12 ounces of a 10% sugar solution, less than 1 ounce will be absorbed in the same period. The typical soft drink is a 10 to 12% sugar solution.
____________________________________________________

Supplements:

Supplements like creatine work in part because it pulls water in muscle cells, thereby creating an anabolic environment needed for growth. For this to work properly, you need plenty of water. Many vitamins are water soluble, and water unlocks the power of those vitamins.
____________________________________________________

Rule For How Much Water to Drink Per Day:

So how much water should you drink per day? We need to drink half our body weight (lbs.) in ounces of water every day to provide the body with it's MINIMUM water replacement requirements. Triple the intake for better results. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking at least 75 oz. a day, and 225 oz. for best results.

I drink about 4 or 5 pints o water a day. In actual pint glasses, if I have a small glass of water, id own it and need more quickly after.

I'm not always thirsty and i don't drink it for health, i just like water.

that will have to do but ive read a long article on why sports drinks (lucozade/powerade/gatorade and ilk) are better for you than water during exercise.

basically you hit a "wall" with water because your body absorbs it too rapidly or some such. however with a sports drink its 'managed' so that you can quench thirst better than water.

Well, Water CAUSES rust!!!! Hahahah.

Anyway, all of this might be true, but water just tastes shit on parties, doesn't it? Most ppl including me would prefer a coke.
Tell me how bad smoking is, and how many people still smoke (instead of inhaling "air" (<- compared to drinking water)).

Re: Water > Soft Drinks

And now gentlemen.... The facts!

Quote:
Soft Drinks can remove rust from a car bumper or other metal surfaces. Imagine what it's doing to your digestive tract as well as the rest of your body.

Ok, for starters the acid contained in your standard softdrink is phosphoric acid, and it is NOT a particularly strong acid. Any acid given time will break down metal compounds. The naturally occuring acid within your stomach however is hydrochloric acid, and it is by far much stronger than phosphoric acid. The reason it does not eat through the stomach lining is because it is covered with a thick coating of mucus that protects the lining.

Aluminium is the third most common element in the Earth's crust. You can not avoid being exposed to it, it exists in drinking water, foods, pharmaceuticals, antiperspirants and printing inks. The Alzheimers's patients that they autopsyed did indeed have a high concentration of aluminium in their neuro-fibrillary tangles, but it wasn't from exposure. Neuro-fibrillary tangles are very sticky, and as a result absorbed the aluminium from the water that was used to wash them for the autopsy. There is stronger scientific evidence to say that aluminium has no link to Alzheimers disease at all (though in sufficient doses well above 1000mg per day (we intake average 10-50mg a day) it can cause temporary dementia).

Quote:
Soft Drinks severely interfere with digestion. Caffeine and high amounts of sugar virtually shut down the digestive process. That means your body is essentially taking in NO nutrients from the food you may have just eaten, even that eaten hours earlier.
Consumed with french-fries which can take WEEKS to digest, there is arguably nothing worse a person can put in their body.
This is utter crap, unfortunately I don't have any referrence material to dismiss this claim properly. However I will say that while neither is particularly good for you the quantity you would have to consume to have anywhere near this sort of effect on your body would probably kill you before the lack of nutrients did.

Quote:
Diet soft drinks contain Aspartame, which has been linked to depression, insomnia, neurological disease and a plethora of other illness. The FDA has received more than 10,000 consumer complaints about Aspartame, that's 80% of all complaints about food additives.
Aspartame is produced by combining two common amino acids - phenylalanine and aspartic acid. Both amino acids are found in the proteins we eat and are a part of our regular food intake. The phenylalanine has also been modified by a methyl group chemical, so when the gut breaks aspartame down we get three chemicals - phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol. Phenylalanine is toxic only to people with a rare disease called phenylketonuria. There is more phenylalanine in regular foods such as egg, milk and hamburgers than a can of diet softdrink. The other chemical methanol is toxic in large doses. In a softdrink there is about 20mg, a glass of juice 40mg and an alcoholic drink around 60-100mg. This is well below what the body can handle.

Re: Water > Soft Drinks

Oh hmmm.... well i'm too lazy to go into a big rant concerning this thread- I most wholeheartadly agree- but notice some inaccuricies [i know i'm not one to talk.....]

I drink water all day, every day. When in a pub, I have a pint, cocktail, or spirit- always accompanied by a pint of water. Hangovers are essentially dehydration- to an extreme level, interspacing your drinking [i haven't been drunk in 3 yrs btw] with water 1) Helps flush out the toxins+alcohol 2)keeps you hydrated, therefore stopping a hangover.

Oh and it is the bubbles of Co2 in soft drinks that give you the illusion that your thirst has been quenched, they absorb heat from your mouth and throat etc.

Re: Water > Soft Drinks

I actually did analysis of soft drinks for my CSYS chemistry project.

To be perfectly frank, what a load of utter nonsense.
you`d have a hard time finding a soft drink with an acidity lower then 3, and even lower then 4 is pushing it a little, yet to try and think that this is bad is rubbish.

Quote:

your stomach regularly churns away with hydrochloric acid in it, as part of the NATURAL digestive process ( and thats a fairly strong acid, pH 1-2 ) and you dont see people dropping all over like flies now do you?

What book are you using? the idiots guide to spin and statistics?

There we are, (pure) water is bad for you. lets all go back to drinking from puddles.

Quote:

Actually its 7.4 which is considered to be 'good' so drinking (lots and lots of) water can be bad for you, just like everything else
Its a matter of balance. too much of anything will have a bad effect

Quote:

Oh im sure i can think up a few worse things. Bleach for instance as someone mentioned. theres also things which are explosive. these are very very bad if they get into you ( and go off ). theres a heck of a lot more things which are worse

After not being bothered to read the last 9 reasons + bonus features you included in your post, I've decided to agree with you anyway.

I will drink more water in future and in turn, my organs will get rusty. So either way, i lose.

I might as well just die now. Or I could drink some rust remover, but it might remove my penis.

I've read the article you posted before, sadly though while it houses some small truths it's also riddled with inaccuracies. Water certainly is important, afterall we are comprised 90% of water, but it's the rest of the many chemicals that help keep other vital systems functioning.

That's why I see people like vegetarians as crazy, the amount of roughage they have to eat to make up for the missing minerals and proteins they'd normally get from meat outways the benifits.

Even worse are purists, people avoiding genetically modified food or foods that have not been processed in some way. Once again they fail to realise that even something as simple as the water they drink has been modified in some way. The fact that they convinced third-world help organisations to turn away genetically modified food that could have fed a lot of starving people shows the blind ignorance of these people.
