I wonder how long i can stay awake for?
i got up yesterday (friday) afternoon at about half two. it is now five o'clock saturday morning. i've not slept at all. i've got work from six until ten this evening. i wonder if i will last all day without collapsing from exhaustion? also, i've come to realise how much i'd prefer to be a nocturnal animal. anyone else prefer to be nocturnal?

Depends on what stimulants your body is used too, for instance I used to be a lovely boy who never touched caffiene all his life, till he was 16, thanks to the power of cherry coke I managed over 3 days straight by which point when I was walking around it felt like the floor was coming up and smakcing me in the face each time I took a step I was that disorientated from sleep depravation.

I stayed up all night and I'll probably sleep on my floor for a couple of hours later on, then go to bed at 10ish.

Well my computer is on the floor and I lie on the floor when I'm using it, so I've got a pillow down here and stuff. If I were to go to sleep in my bed I'd just get comfortable and end up sleeping for 6-8 hours or so, but on the floor I'm quite likely to actually get up after a couple of hours.

My "record" is somewhere around 45 hours as well.

It's very doable - although I wouldn't recommend making any habit or even monthly event out of it. You'll have to work through a few difficult periods of an hour or two in which concentrating is very hard, but other than that you're mostly fine. I reckon adding another 8-10 hours to that will start the wacky stuff.

until about 5 this morning, i'd had about 4 hours of sleep in 72 hours. i find this far easier than being up for ages, where i can only hit about 40 before getting woozy

i always hit a rough spot like 7am the next morning, and i've never had need to stay up for a third day so i've never tried.

I made 74 hours a couple of months ago! Right now I'm feeling fairly weak due to 3 hours sleep in the past 48 or so. And then this evening I'm going out!


PS The worst time is nearly always 4:30-6:30 in the morning. It's just a stupid time with nothing good going for it.

Your body literally shuts down after about 3 days without sleep unless it's pumped full of chemicals. It's not even a question of stamina anymore, you just can't do it.

During my finals i got 4 hours sleep (total) in one week and another 11 hours sleep the following week*.

I was starting to eat pro plus by the end of the first week.

By the middle of the second week i couldn't really eat anything (pro plus or not) cause i felt so sick.

well, i failed terriably. at about 5:30 this morning i decided that it was a stupid idea (that and i had nothing to do, and my eyes were hurting) so i went to sleep, very quickly. i was fully intending to get up at 11:00 this morning, but slept in until 1, even though my radio was on full volume right next to my ear (actually, i always sleep through my radio. i've been told it's very difficult to wake me up). oh well, maybe i'll try again tonight. i went out and brought SMB today so that should give me something to do

Lately, I can barely last 24 hours . I`ve managed 48~ hrs like everyone else in the 'hey-days' ofcourse. Due to a web browser text-based game we all play (used to.) Never for anything study or such trivial reasons though :/

If i remember correctly, the world record is ~170 hours. Or it might be ~120, or "just" ~100. I forget.

My record's only about ~35ish. I do intend to try and stay awak for 48 hours, not eating anything for the whole time. I have a twisted sense of fun.

I didn't sleep at all during i15 for not having anywhere to put my head. Bastard security were waking people up who tried sleeping at their desks so I sufficed with eating Jaffa Cakes. That must have been about ~50-60 hours, though on the way back in the car I could have sworn that the electricity pylons were chasing the car.

I can't remember how little sleep I had, but before I handed in my undergrad dissertation I didn't sleep for a prolonged period. Pro-Plus was involved, and my perception started to fail. I was almost killed crossing Mile End road as I was going to hand it in (I failed to notice oncoming traffic).

The next day I was getting an international flight where I randomly passed out every few minutes, woke up with my head on the tray thingie and then looked around, passed out again, etc etc for about eight hours.

I don't know what the deal was with it. They let people sleep at their desks at i20, though wouldn't let me and a couple of others sleep on the totally empty first floor because it posed a fire hazard.

A room the full length of the grandstand, devoid of all furniture, heated and illuminated and containing only ourselves and three other people. The guy who moved us on* was the **** who started the day charging me £3.20 for a Guinness.

I've done 77ish at the most, I think. I collapsed totaly and slept for over a day.

I know of one that did much longer than that, but he cheated.

Once or twice a year, I have a few weeks where l only sleep like a 2-3 hours now and then, and in those 2-3 weeks, there is usually one or two 35-60ish hours of not sleeping involved. It sucks, but I do all the things i've planned on doing for long and never gotten around to (Cleaning my room, making some brownies, trying out new sorts of green tea, playing a new game or something), so it's okay.

I've done 50 odd hours sorta by accident before.

Although when I was 17, I managed 60+, which included going to College and work several times, but I was using a lot of speed to do it :|

While in university and then being unemployed I managed some bizzare combinations of sleepless hours. I think the most I ever got was 68~ before I was so fked that I was laughing for no reason and the walls were swaying.
I then walked into a door, thought it was a person (no-one in the house),apologised, realised there was no-one there and then fell asleep on my floor while playing guitar.

I awoke in the most uncomfortable position I have ever experienced, lying on my back with my legs trapped under my body, the guitar strings jammed into my chin and a tremendous hum from the guitar amp in my ear. Fell asleep for 4 hours without being woken up by the wild feedback. Took my 5 mins to even get my legs to move.

Not exactly fun, sorta though. Interesting stuff starts to happen, if you can stay awake long enough then its cheaper than drugs and probably alot safer.
